Chapter 7 - CHAPTER-7 THE HEART OF CORRUPTION

The thick mist clung to every leaf and branch, swirling in eerie eddies that whispered forgotten secrets. The Black Jade Marsh stretched before them, a cursed expanse of twisted roots and stagnant waters, glowing faintly with an unnatural light that made the night seem endless. Jin Mu-Won's gaze was unflinching as he stood at the edge of the marsh, spear held firmly in hand. Beside him, his companions readied themselves: Yu Fei's eyes gleamed with sharp resolve, Lin Xue's calm presence was a shield, and Bai Yiran's fierce spirit crackled like a fire in the cold swamp air.

"We're close," Jin said, voice low but steady. "The ritual's power pulses from the ruins at the marsh's heart."

Yu Fei's spiritual senses reached out, brushing against the thick barrier energy humming in the atmosphere. "It's a trap," she warned. "The barrier repels the weak, but it pulls in the strong — it feeds on our Qi."

Lin Xue folded her arms, brow furrowed. "That means they're sacrificing more lives to fuel the ritual. We don't have much time."

Jin nodded. "Let's move carefully. No mistakes."

The ground beneath their feet was a treacherous quagmire, sucking at their boots and twisting roots threatening to ensnare them. The deeper they went, the heavier the air became — thick with corruption and despair. The cries of lost souls echoed faintly, playing tricks on the mind.

Jin's thoughts flashed back to his past life, to the faces of fallen comrades—brothers who had died fighting darkness just like this. Their voices seemed to reach out to him, laden with regret and accusation.

"Mu-Won... why did you abandon us?" one whispered.

"Your throne wasn't worth our blood," another hissed.

He shook his head, forcing those haunting memories away. "Ignore it. It's the marsh's illusions."

Yu Fei placed a steadying hand on his shoulder. "We face this together."

The party pressed forward, keeping tight formation. Jin led with his spear ready, Bai Yiran and Lin Xue flanking, Yu Fei watching the rear with hawk-like vigilance.

Suddenly, a low growl broke the silence. From the mist emerged a monstrous figure — a corrupted wolf, its fur blackened and slick with swamp muck, eyes burning red with malice.

Without hesitation, Bai Yiran sprang forward, twin daggers gleaming as she danced between the wolf's snapping jaws. Jin followed swiftly, thrusting the Moonpiercer Spear with precise power. Yu Fei's Qi sliced through the air like a scythe, and Lin Xue unleashed a torrent of frost energy that slowed the beast.

The wolf let out a final, agonized howl before collapsing into the mire, dissolving into shadows.

Breathing heavily, the group pressed on, knowing this was only the beginning.

Hours passed—or maybe minutes. Time bent strangely in the marsh, distorting reality and memory. The oppressive darkness weighed on them, threatening to crush their spirits.

Then came the whispers again—voices sweet and sorrowful, memories made manifest.

Before Jin, three figures materialized, ghostly and translucent. They were his old comrades—warriors who had fallen in the final war of his past life. Their faces were twisted with pain and betrayal.

"Why did you let us die, Mu-Won?" one asked, voice trembling.

"You promised to protect us," another said, eyes filled with tears.

Jin's grip on his spear tightened until his knuckles were white. "It wasn't my choice," he said fiercely. "I will make it right this time."

Yu Fei grabbed his arm. "They're illusions. Don't listen."

Slowly, the figures faded like mist.

Ahead, the ruined temple loomed—a black gate carved with crimson runes, glowing faintly in the dim light. Atop the gate floated a blood-red orb pulsing like a heartbeat—the demon's soul fragment.

"This is it," Jin said. "The source of their power."

The gate creaked open, revealing a vast hall drenched in shadow and decay. Hanging corpses swayed from the ceiling, their bloated forms grotesque. Dark ichor seeped from the walls, and red candles floated, their flames whispering sinister chants.

On a dais stood the High Priestess of the Red Moon Cult, her flowing crimson hair like rivers of blood, her eyes glowing with madness and power. Her robes shimmered, revealing serpent tattoos that writhed over her pale skin.

"Little Moonpiercer," she said with a mocking smile. "You've come to witness the dawn of a new age."

Behind her, children lay chained, their eyes vacant, their Qi being drained.

Yu Fei's blade flashed, sending a slicing wind, but the priestess deflected it effortlessly.

"Your efforts are futile," she hissed. "The ritual will awaken the demon's power fully on the third night."

Suddenly, cultists emerged from shadows, chanting in unison. From the depths, a towering Blood Golem made from melted corpses and cursed Qi lumbered forward, snarling.

"Prepare yourselves," Jin growled. "This fight will decide everything."

The battle erupted — steel clashing against dark magic, Qi flaring in bursts of light and shadow. Jin's spear danced, striking the golem's weak points while his companions fought cultists and protected the chained children.

The marsh seemed alive with malice, trying to swallow them whole.

Yu Fei's sharp strikes kept the cultists at bay while Lin Xue conjured ice storms that shattered enemy formations. Bai Yiran weaved through the chaos, her blades flashing like lightning.

But the Blood Golem was relentless, its cursed energy regenerating despite their attacks.

Jin's eyes narrowed. "We need to sever its source — the priestess!"

He charged forward, dodging blasts of cursed energy, spear aiming for the High Priestess.

She laughed, raising her hands to summon a blood moon eclipse in the sky, darkening the marsh further.

"Feel the true power of the Red Moon!" she declared.

The ritual neared completion. The red orb above the gate pulsed faster.

Jin pushed harder, driving through the cultists' ranks. Yu Fei and Lin Xue flanked him, while Bai Yiran freed the children, their Qi slowly recovering.

In a desperate gambit, Jin called on the hidden Moonpiercer technique — a sacred spear art forgotten by all but him.

His spear glowed with blinding light as he leapt into the air, striking the orb with all his might.

The orb shattered, unleashing a shockwave that rocked the temple.

The Blood Golem howled, faltering as its power source was severed.

The High Priestess screamed in rage and despair as Jin's spear pierced her heart, ending her dark reign.

As silence fell over the temple, the corrupted energy began to dissipate.

Jin looked at his friends, exhausted but victorious.

"We stopped the ritual," Yu Fei breathed.

"But the war is far from over," Jin said, his eyes burning with resolve. "The Red Moon Demon Queen's shadow still looms."

The marsh began to heal, the mists lifting, but the memory of what they faced would stay forever.

Jin turned, spear in hand, ready for the next challenge.
