Lilian had been startled by the sudden presence behind her, only to relax when she realized it was him. She quickly wriggled out of his arms, narrowing her eyes.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, a mix of surprise and embarrassment in her voice.
She had intended to sneak in quietly, just to take a look around. Who knew he would be here too? This was awkward, to say the least.
Morrison chuckled, his voice teasing but warm.
"Of course, I came to wait for you."
Ever since leaving Burg Eltz, he had driven straight here. Knowing her as well as he did, he figured she would probably come—she was sentimental, warm-hearted, and this apartment had been her home for years. Now that it was back in her hands, she'd naturally want to see it first.
Lilian was too embarrassed to ask how he had known she would come. By showing up here, hadn't he just read her mind?
Flustered, she lowered her head and turned to leave, but Morrison stopped her.
