Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Fairy Sister

That is Zhang Xuesong, a renowned doctor in Huaxia. The Gu Family spared no effort or expense to extend Old Master Gu Mingchun's life. After much painstaking effort, they finally managed to hire Zhang Xuesong as Old Master Gu Mingchun's specially-appointed private doctor.

Now, Gu Mingchun is kneeling before this seemingly unremarkable young man.

The look of reverence on his face made the scene appear somewhat unbelievable!

Only Xu Xiangbei casually glanced at Zhang Xuesong kneeling on the ground, and lazily said, "Why should I give you any guidance? My time is precious."

"Miracle doctor, oh miracle doctor. I am deeply impressed by your medical skills. If you'd be willing to offer me some guidance, I'd be willing to serve you like a horse or ox," Zhang Xuesong pleaded, bowing in humility.

Only someone like Zhang Xuesong, who had ventured far into the medical field, would understand how mysterious Xu Xiangbei's technique of condensing needles with Qi was. And as for those legendary eight needles that defied reason?

It's like an artist finally meeting the painter Qi Baishi or a calligrapher meeting the grandmaster Zhang Xu.

Yet this scene, in the eyes of the Gu Family members, was somewhat incomprehensible.

Just knelt down like that?

Just humbled himself like that?

Back then, when we went to hire you, we humbled ourselves in the same manner, you seemed like an immortal.

Now, Zhang Xuesong is kneeling before a young man just like a dog.

Now, you are like us back then, while Xu Xiangbei seems like an immortal beyond reach.

"When I'm free, and if my mood improves and you impress me, perhaps I might give you some guidance." Xu Xiangbei, uninterested in taking a disciple at this moment, coldly rejected him, "I'm not available now."

Though it was a cold rejection, in Zhang Xuesong's ears it sounded like there was still a sliver of hope for guidance. Instantly filled with joy, he said, "Thank you, miracle doctor."

Gu Xiangyi took a few deep breaths with her cherry lips at this moment and finally understood what was happening.

This man, Xu Xiangbei, seemed like a beast, but he indeed had unimaginable skills.

This further solidified Gu Xiangyi's idea of living with Xu Xiangbei, at this moment, here in Jiangcheng.

It seemed that only the man beside her could protect her.

"Thank you." No matter what, in the end, Xu Xiangbei saved Old Master Gu Mingchun. Gu Xiangyi looked at Xu Xiangbei and whispered.

Gu Chengjun and Gu Chenggang were both speechless, their faces flushed.

Xu Xiangbei simply turned his head and smiled, "No need. Although I pulled your grandfather back from the gates of hell, his old ailments have entangled him for many years, deeply penetrating his internal organs. They can't simply be cured, so there's no need to rush to thank me for now."

"Can you help cure my grandfather?" Gu Xiangyi looked at Xu Xiangbei with a face full of hope.

Xu Xiangbei merely shook his head and said, "Three feet of ice is not formed in a single day. Today, I'm neither free nor have the energy. Don't worry, your grandfather won't die for now. Do you still want to move out? If you want to move, I'll help. If not, I'll go back."

Having just arrived in Jiangcheng, Xu Xiangbei didn't want to be entangled in these trivial matters either.

Gu Xiangyi heard this and bit her cherry lips. Then she turned her head to look at her grandpa Gu Mingchun, who had just woken up, and her uncles.

At this moment, only Xu Xiangbei could protect her here in Jiangcheng.

And it seemed that only Xu Xiangbei could cure her grandfather in the future.

Thus, moving to Spring Villa and living with this man seemed like a good decision.

"Uncle, grandpa." Gu Xiangyi took a deep breath, gathered her courage, and whispered, "I've been thinking about moving out for a few days since we might have offended Young Master Chen today. I fear he might come after us and implicate our Gu Family."

For these trivial matters, Xu Xiangbei didn't want to participate.

He directly walked out of the ward, coldly saying, "I'll give you two minutes to sort things out."

In the ward, Gu Xiangyi's reasoning was so convincing that there was hardly any objection to her moving out. Seeing no opposition, with the air slightly stifling, Gu Xiangyi continued, "It's more reassuring for my sister to have me take care of her, so I want to take her with me for a few days."

The room was silent.

Gu Xiangyi's sister, Gu Xinyan, had been sickly since childhood.

Seated in a wheelchair for years, mobility was inconvenient for her. Gradually, she rarely bothered to even move around in the wheelchair, merely gazing outside. On the top floor of the villa by South Mountain Lake, she lived alone in her solitude.

She disliked talking and favored wearing black clothes.

This girl had a reclusive personality.

The Gu Family didn't like her.

Even Old Master Gu Mingchun didn't like her.

"You can take her with you; she only trusts you as her sister." Old Master Gu Mingchun, feeling better, said softly.

Gu Xiangyi never imagined her departure would be so easy.

And taking her sister Gu Xinyan with her was equally so.

She didn't know why her heart felt a tinge of sadness.

"I'll go upstairs to check on her."

Gu Xiangyi turned and left the room, which remained silent.

There was no attempt to hold her back.

"Where's your sister?" Xu Xiangbei asked matter-of-factly as he watched Gu Xiangyi leave from the doorway.

Gu Xiangyi felt somewhat down and simply whispered, "On the third floor, I'll take you."

One leading, one following.

Gu Xiangyi led Xu Xiangbei to the third floor, where twilight was settling in, and it was already a bit dim.

No lights were on.

Gu Xiangyi turned on the third-floor hallway light.

The clean light illuminated the elegantly simple hall on the floor.

The hall was quite bare; it seemed somewhat out of place with the luxurious villa. There was no furniture, only a table.

In front of the table, back towards them, was a wheelchair. Sitting in the wheelchair was a girl dressed in black.

Her face wasn't visible; only the cascade of hair, like seaweed, was draped down her back.

The hair was beautiful, straight.

Shiny, so very shiny.

Like a waterfall cascading down.

Even someone like Xu Xiangbei, no stranger to the world, had never seen such lovely hair.

The girl remained seated in the wheelchair, unbothered by the light or the arrival of the two people on the third floor.

She sat there in silence, holding a calligraphy brush aloft.

She continued writing with the brush across the table in front of her, softly scrawling characters.

The room was exceptionally quiet.

This woman was equally quiet.

"Xinyan, your sister's here." Gu Xiangyi finally whispered.

The girl lowered her brush, turning around to reveal a breathtaking beauty that seemed to topple nations.

Xu Xiangbei merely glanced, feeling as though his soul was being drawn out.

"Fairy sister, oh fairy sister..."

Xu Xiangbei muttered under his breath, lost for words.
