Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Divided Hearts

The next day

The weather at the end of October was clear and refreshing.

Ruan Xingwen, who woke up early again, left the house holding his Little Qilin to have breakfast.

Looking at the variety of breakfast shops on the street, he hesitated.

"Little Qilin, take a look and see what you want to eat?" He really couldn't decide, everything looked delicious...

"Slurp slurp..." The sound of swallowing saliva...

Ruan Xingwen couldn't help but laugh, "Haha, you're too greedy... there's no need. I'll take you here every day; you can eat something different each day." He patted the little thing in his arms and continued, "Alright, you decide what to have for breakfast today."

The Little Qilin lifted a paw and pointed — [Pan-fried buns]

Ruan Xingwen had been living here for over twenty years and had tried almost every shop, but some had closed either due to poor business or because the owners moved to other cities.

The pan-fried bun shop wasn't large but was very clean and tidy. It was breakfast rush hour, and many people were there.

After finding a good seat in the shop, "Aunt Sun, I want two servings of pan-fried buns and one bowl of pumpkin porridge~"

The shop owner, Aunt Sun, was over fifty, and years of labor had left marks on her hands and face.

Seeing him, Aunt Sun said, "Xiao Ruan, you're here! Sit tight, I'll dish it up for you." She smiled as she prepared his order, then wanted to bring it over to him.

"Aunt Sun, don't worry about it; I can carry it myself." He quickly put the Little Qilin on the seat and stood up to walk to the counter.

When returning to the table, a little boy at the next table was curiously looking at the Little Qilin.

"Big brother, is this a puppy? It looks so strange!"

"Yes, it is. Do you like puppies too?"

Ruan Xingwen put the food on the table, glanced at the little boy, and casually grabbed the vinegar to pour some onto the plate.

The little boy's expression noticeably deflated.

"I also want to have one, but my mom doesn't like them; she won't let me have a dog, not even a cat."

"Hmm, that's tough. But when you grow up and live on your own, you'll be able to have one. For now, you still have to listen to your mom."

He comforted the little boy while eating the pan-fried buns. He also gave a bun to the Little Qilin, placing it in its food bowl.

Hmm, it's really delicious.

Eating breakfast leisurely, he occasionally glanced at the Little Qilin. To his surprise, it ate very neatly without making a mess.

He was overthinking; after all, it was a Divine Beast with some special abilities.

After breakfast, he was ready to go home. Today's weather was hotter, and even the wind carried heat waves.

Originally, Ruan Xingwen wanted to stroll in the park but remembered the two elderly people from yesterday... it was too hot, better to go home and enjoy the air conditioning.

Passing by the supermarket, he bought some chicken breast, broccoli, and carrots. He had been eating too well these days; starting today, he had to control it a bit.

He walked in the direction of home, braving the heat wave.

As soon as he entered the door, a phone call came in.

Ruan Xingwen was currently holding the Little Qilin with one hand and carrying a grocery bag with the other. After setting the Little Qilin down, he took out his phone with his free hand and saw it was a call from Sister Li.

"Xing Wen, are you home now? Can I come over?"

Is there another event? "I'm home, you can come over now. Sister Li, is there another event, or is the company looking for me?"

Sister Li's tone was full of obvious amusement, "I'll tell you when I get there; it's good news!" and then she hung up the phone.

What could be the good news? Ruan Xingwen rubbed his chin, pondering. Unable to think of anything, he decided to just wait until she arrived to find out.

He suddenly remembered something.

"Little Qilin, are you full?"

"Yes, I'm full. The pan-fried buns were delicious!"

"So, do you need to go potty...?"

"!!!"

"For the past few days, how have you been, um, handling it?"

Ruan Xingwen was indeed curious. For the past few days, the Little Qilin had done nothing but eat and sleep, and it ate a lot, too.

Apart from when he was asleep, it was basically never out of his sight, so did it do it while he was asleep?

"Also, I checked the potty I prepared for you... it's very clean."

The Little Qilin hopped around angrily on the sofa, "I'm a Divine Beast, okay! I definitely have my own way of handling it! Don't worry about it!"

"Alright, alright, I get it; I was just curious, I won't ask anymore!" Seeing it was visibly embarrassed and angry, he stopped teasing it and instead advised it,

"In a while, someone will come over, it's my agent. Be mindful, don't expose yourself."

"Hmph, got it. When have I ever exposed myself when we went out?!"

Ruan Xingwen still felt a bit uneasy, about to say more when the doorbell rang.

He called out, "One moment, I'm coming." and stood up to open the door.

"Sister Li, come in quickly, it's so hot outside."

He let Sister Li in and took her bag while he was at it, "Sis, you came so quickly, it hasn't even been ten minutes."

"Today, I happened to be nearby with Shi Mu taking photos, so I came by on the way." She spoke as she walked to the sofa and sat down without looking closely.

"Hey, Sister Li, don't...!" Ruan Xingwen hadn't finished speaking when a scream sounded.

"Awoo!"

Sister Li jumped up in fright, also screaming, "Ah! What is that!"

The Little Qilin took the opportunity as she lifted herself and nimbly jumped off the sofa, running into the doghouse.

She didn't actually sit on it; it just scared her on purpose because it was disgusted by her aura.

"It's okay, Sister Li, it's just a puppy I have; sorry for scaring you." He could clearly see the Little Qilin did it on purpose... it was really too mischievous.

Sister Li, still shaken, patted her chest and muttered, "You have a dog? You can barely take care of yourself, seriously, it scared me to death!"

Ruan Xingwen pretended not to hear it, internally wishing he had let the Little Qilin scare her more...

For almost a year, the resources meant for Ruan Xingwen were distributed by Sister Li. At first, she would at least notify him and apologize, but later she wouldn't even say a word, just transferred them.

Ruan Xingwen thought, anyway, he couldn't get popular, and he might not get the resources even if he had them, so let it be shared. However, recently, Sister Li was clearly going too far.

He went to the kitchen, got a cup of boiled water, and placed it on the coffee table in front of Sister Li, "Sister Li, on the phone you mentioned there was good news to discuss?"

Indeed, she did have good news before she came. Shi Mu was there, too, and when he said one sentence, it made her hesitate.

"Sis, are you sure Ruan Xingwen can handle this endorsement? Even if he gets it, it might cause problems, don't offend the other party."

Knowing Shi Mu had his motives too, she was genuinely hesitant. She had been in the industry for nearly ten years, initially thinking Ruan Xingwen would hit it big, and as a result, she would become a top agent, but it backfired.

Instead of worrying that Ruan Xingwen and she might miss this opportunity, it was better to give it to Shi Mu and potentially hit it big.

So she made up her mind, "You must do your best, I believe in you, Ah Mu."

Across from her, Shi Mu lightly brushed her hair with his hand, his voice gentle yet the smile not reaching his eyes, "Lili, I will do my best."

Thinking of this, Li Li became more assured, "Yes, tomorrow evening, Xing Wen, you will attend a dinner with me. I will introduce you to someone, get to know them, and aim to get the script in their hands."

Hmm... is it just a party?
