Nick Zeller's voice turned cold, "But Lawrence has never been an ordinary child. I thought you knew this better than I do."
Gabrielle Winters seemed a bit startled, as if she was lost in some distant memory and couldn't utter a word.
Nick Zeller glanced at her quickly, somewhat worried she'd get upset. He quickly softened his tone and continued, "Don't you remember what happened when she was little? Why did we move from the big city back to this small place? Have you forgotten all that?"
"...No, I haven't forgotten." Gabrielle Winters looked a bit dazed, but insisted, "Lawrence is just an ordinary child. She's no different from other kids. It's just...she's a little unlucky, that's all."
"No, she's actually quite lucky, luckier than most kids." Nick Zeller patted her hand firmly, "With me here, her luck will always stay good."
