Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Strength Begets Miracles

Coming out of the kitchen, they proceeded further inside, dividing into two rooms.

One room seemed to be a meeting room, inside there was an oval long table, filled with chairs, but no one was there.

A blackboard hung on the inner wall, with markers placed in the groove below.

When the mechanical dog's eyes focused on it, they could see a line and a half of numbers written on it, from 1234 ascending to 37.

"What do you think this is?"

Lu Xi'an asked.

Yao Wei shook her head, indicating she couldn't guess.

Lu Xi'an speculated, "There's no one else in the shelter, this should have been written by those two dead people.

"These numbers seem to serve the purpose of recording dates, meaning how long they were trapped down here. It's quite miserable."

Scenes like this were only seen in plots where people were trapped in prisons in past lives, though they usually drew horizontal and vertical lines, seeing numbers was a first.

No matter if it's lines or numbers, Lu Xi'an could see deep despair in them.

He wondered whether those two endured 37 days before committing suicide, or if by the 37th day, their spirits had crumbled, and they gave up on marking it anymore?

He thought aimlessly in his mind and went with Yao Wei to look at another room.

The other room seemed to be an office, larger in space, with two desks inside, suitable for multiple people working.

Computers, printers, notebooks on the desks were all complete.

But the notebooks were all empty, scattered messily on the ground.

The computers and printers were also smashed to the ground, appearing to have been violently bashed several times, with cases fractured, parts scattered, and the monitor screens shattered into spider-web patterns.

Were they smashed by those two?

Lu Xi'an seemed to somewhat understand.

If it were him enduring so long in here, with no food left, unable to leave, perhaps even facing issues with water and electricity, it wasn't hard to go berserk.

The notebooks scattered on the desks and ground were all blank; Yao Wei picked one up, dusted off the dirt, and put it in her backpack.

Lu Xi'an imitated her, stuffing one into his backpack.

They didn't take more.

A single notebook didn't weigh much, but in bulk, they were quite heavy. Although he was strong now, he didn't want to burden himself unnecessarily.

Besides, he also found about a dozen pens on the ground, casually picked up a notebook and tested them one by one, most were new, the ink flowing perfectly.

Thus, he put all the pens in his bag and asked Yao Wei, "Do you want some?"

Yao Wei took one, declining more, but had some doubts about why Lu Xi'an wanted so many.

"Can also use them as hidden weapons at critical times."

Lu Xi'an said with a smile, "Definitely not for writing a diary."

Writing a diary was truly useless, just wasted pen and paper, he'd never write a diary again in this lifetime.

"Everything's a hidden weapon..."

Yao Wei murmured.

She still had two gold bricks in her car, she really couldn't fathom their use.

Lu Xi'an said, "We have strength, strong to create miracles, anything can be a hidden weapon."

Yao Wei didn't reply, seriously pondering if Lu Xi'an had any logic, then took a few more pens and put them in her bag.

This office also had two side rooms, one on each side, not with metal doors, but locked.

The quality of the doors was good, Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei saw chairs alongside both side room doors, and marks of attempted break-ins on the doors, but the doors remained intact, firmly protecting the side rooms.

Both doors had ordinary locks, so the mechanical dog had no effect.

No keys were inserted in the lock holes, and judging by the signs of the trapped two trying to smash the doors, it seemed they didn't find keys outside either, opening the doors with keys seemed impossible.

"Do you think we can create a miracle on these doors as well?"

Lu Xi'an was eager to try.

But even before he finished speaking, Yao Wei had already started.

The woman raised her foot, her loose pants tightening at the top, outlining a perfectly slender curve, then she kicked out lightly like a dance step.

Yet with considerable power.

"Boom!"

The door fell heavily, onto the ground inside, the frame twisted and deformed at the connection point, and the lock hole on the frame was directly destroyed.

Lu Xi'an was wide-eyed, tongue-tied, couldn't help but say, "Impressive."

"Hmm."

Yao Wei nodded, graciously admitting it, and walked into the side room with Lu Xi'an.

Inside appeared to be a manager's office, small in size, but with complete desks, chairs, computers, and notebooks.

Configurations were almost identical to the outer office, undamaged, but seemingly nothing inside.

Once set up, no one should have entered, the person responsible for leading and commanding the shelter probably didn't get the chance to settle in before being trapped outside the shelter.

Lu Xi'an tried having Gou open the socket at the back, connect the computer host and monitor power, and the computer could turn on, but it was brand new, surely nothing inside.

"Ah, such a pity..."

He sighed and unplugged the power.

This computer was a good item, but carrying it was useless, had to abandon it.

"Let's go to the other side room."

He said.

Thus, the two of them and Gou left this side room, heading to the opposite one.

Lu Xi'an stepped aside, saying to Yao Wei, "You go."

He found Yao Wei's movements neat and fluid, had a rhythm, quite appealing.

Yao Wei didn't hesitate, kicked the door open again.

This side room wasn't an office anymore, when the light swept through Gou's eyes, Lu Xi'an identified it as a surveillance room combining electrical and miscellaneous storage.

With just a glance from Gou, Lu Xi'an saw the toolbox and some random items piled in the corner.

On the wall was an electrical box, closed but locked with a key inserted.

The opposite wall had a huge screen, wired and connected to a rectangular device on the table, looking like a surveillance host.

Lu Xi'an thought, lifted the mechanical dog, opened the electrical box, and said, "Try connecting the circuit."

Black lines extended from Gou's sides, connecting into the electrical box.

"Buzz——"

Immediately, faint light seeped into the outer office.

Lu Xi'an stepped out to check, seeing light beam from the corridor.

The office light hasn't turned on.

Nonetheless, it demonstrated that the underground shelter circuit was intact.

He found the switch on the wall in the dim light, pressed it, and the surveillance room lit up instantly.

Then he explored the surveillance host, pressed the button at the back, and the host turned on.

The wall screen was already open, a red light illuminated at the bottom right upon power, flashing when the host started, uncertain if an image would appear.

Yao Wei gave Lu Xi'an a curious look.

She actually wanted to ask Lu Xi'an how he knew everything, even able to operate these.

But seeing his look, he answered, "A bit curious to see what those two did in here, if any footage was left."
