Chapter 23 - Chapter 18: Holy Land

When he woke up the next day, Li Xin's memories of the Round Table Conference were still very clear. After the four of them chatted for a while, the meeting was forcibly disbanded with the flickering of constellations.

Regarding the attitude towards the Round Table Conference, Mr. Taurus felt indifferent. He knew a lot, was mature, Cancer was there to show off and flirt, his eyes mostly on Miss Aries, who was there to chat and seemed untroubled. Only he truly needed it, and Li Xin's stomach suddenly growled, extremely hungry.

After breakfast, he bid farewell to Aunt Fei and Xueyin. He might need to stay at the Night Patrol for a few days. Newbies who are too punctual don't have much insight, but Li Xin was very perceptive. Despite having Luo Jin's goodwill, he couldn't afford to be lazy.

The livelihood of his family of three now depended on him. When there isn't this Night Patrol job, it wouldn't matter, but now that he has it, he can't go back, not for Aunt Fei or Xueyin, and not for himself.

He thought about the people and matters of the Round Table Conference as he walked. Taurus had the ability to discern lies. Aries and Cancer knew, which was a kind of test for newbies. Taurus meant that, after all, many people would enter this place in the future, and there would inevitably be all sorts of people. At the very least, like-minded people could come to an agreement.

Currently known rules of the Twelve Zodiac Star Disc:

1. One cannot leave their seat for too long, or they may be expelled.

2. The scales represent the activation level of the Life Star of a Divine Relic.

3. The content of the pages is very important, but unfortunately indecipherable.

4. The constellations lighting up means reaching the Star Disc, and flickering signifies the end of the Round Table Conference.

5. Those who arrive do not have to follow the order of the constellations.

Taurus's ability is lie detection. He truly didn't lie, but he didn't tell the whole truth either. The words on that page were definitely familiar, but unrecognizable, damn, this is frustrating.

Because of Mr. Taurus, one cannot lie in future communications, though it's more about not lying. His early self-exposure was both a hint at his attitude toward the Twelve Zodiac Star Disc and a hope that everyone's goals would focus on exploring it, rather than meaningless suspicion and internal strife. This person has a broad perspective.

This was an unexpected surprise for him, offering basic answers where the Night Patrol had none. Unlocking One Life to gain abilities wasn't urgent, but effectively controlling Divine Relics was indeed necessary.

Previously, in the Underground City, he could handle any negative effects in the forest, but now his identity was unsuitable. Getting lost for long periods was not permissible, especially within the Night Patrol, where his Divine Relic had to remain hidden.

The idea of balancing Magic Potions was hopeless. According to Miss Aries, only the Church that controls the Divine Relic can concoct Magic Potions, and other forces have no way. Potion crafting involves life's harsh lessons; several predecessors died in the castle, possibly due to related issues.

Seek help from the Church?

He's not worthy.

The Holy Land, as Aries put it succinctly, is about appeasing the gods, attracting their powerful attention. If a person sees two ants fighting a fascinating battle by the road, they might stop to watch, but would the attention be benevolent or malevolent?

What exactly is a god?

There are too many questions in this, but of course, this is Li Xin's view of the gods; it doesn't represent others'. Among those he met in the castle, most people's faith in the divine was exceedingly firm and recognized sacrificial offerings as part of the belief.

This, Li Xin couldn't accept, though it's not entirely like that. In the Li Long United Kingdom, faith... is slightly weak. Even after Governor Luthor's reforms, the Church gained much and many followers. There are certainly devout individuals, but how to say, most people adhere to reciprocity: "God bless me, and I honor God." Even among the Night Patrol, generally devout but not fanatical.

On Sunday, seeing is believing, he had to take a look. Those who possessed Divine Relics and reached a certain level in Spiritual Ability training all had the opportunity to open the "Gate of Truth" and visit the Holy Land. The method was obtained from the Round Table Conference.

Early in the morning, arriving at the Night Patrol, Li Xin began cleaning. This used to be Kathy's job. From today, Li Xin took over. Since coming here, Kathy helped a lot, sharing her meals and belongings with him. With nothing to start with, and since she had a liking for Uncle Luo, all he could do were these trivial chores.

Cleaning thoroughly, he set the water to boil. If Old Luo had a mission, as long as he came here, Kathy would always serve a fragrant morning tea for him.

Tap, tap, tap~~~

The cheerful footsteps belonged only to Sister Casey at the Night Patrol. Today, she wore high-heeled boots, a pale yellow coat, a delicate bow tie, and carried an expensive-looking suitcase with a radiant smile on her face.

Yesterday must have been very successful.

"Ah Xin, here's the newspaper you wanted. I had a friend bring some over from City Hall," Kathy handed the suitcase to Li Xin.

Li Xin quickly took it, "Sister Casey, you always come through. Let me clear out the suitcase first."

"Why, just use it. Clearing out will take up space, loving to learn is a good thing," Kathy said. The newspaper contained much information about the Church and the country. Given Li Xin's age, he wouldn't always have to stay at the Night Patrol. Just as she supported Old Luo taking a part-time position at the Canon Law School.

Once he secured his footing at the Canon Law School, he could really resign from the Night Patrol. If he did well in the future, not only could he hold a better position in City Hall, but he might even become a councilman.

"Ah Xin, should I go today?" Watching Li Xin organize the newspaper, Kathy couldn't help asking. Although nothing particular happened, it was still the happiest time in years. As Li Xin said, after working hours, Luo Jin at least shed his stern demeanor.

"How did the chat go yesterday?" Li Xin asked with a smile.

"'Drink less', 'only allowed one cup', 'drink slowly', that's all he said all night, so serious."

Kathy felt there was much improvement, but wasn't sure if Luo Jin's detailed instructions indicated fondness or dislike.

Other times, he just drank in silence.

"Go, why not go." Li Xin firmly grasped the suitcase.

Kathy hesitated for a moment, "I've thought about it carefully, might he be very tired and want some quiet time alone after work? Besides, I don't know what he wants to hear..."

Li Xin looked at Kathy, a blend of maturity and youth, thinking to himself that Uncle Luo is a steel-hearted man. Isn't this Old Luo's problem?

"Sister, what you say doesn't matter. Just quietly having a drink together is a kind of enjoyment. Our focus is on sincerity and companionship," Li Xin chuckled, "Uncle Luo's inner drama is elaborate, although he speaks little, every word shows care for you. Seriousness is not a problem, have you seen him smile?"

"Nonsense, Old Luo is in his prime," Kathy's eyes shone, stamping her high-heeled boots vigorously, "Ah Xin, you know so much even at your age, just as reliable as Old Luo!"
