Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Transmigrated to the Otherworld, Have I Become a Failure at Studying?

I, Qian Qi, have transmigrated.

On a certain hill behind the university, a short-haired girl wearing a sleeveless T-shirt and big shorts squatted on a small wooden stool, pretending to hold a nonexistent cigarette butt, and blew out a smoke ring with a complicated expression.

"What the heck is all this?"

Qian Qi scratched her rough, messy short hair. She was originally pulling an all-nighter preparing her thesis for the Agricultural College. Before she knew it, she blacked out and became this world's "Qian Qi."

The "Qian Qi" of this world could not be more different from her.

In her original world, she was a "quiet and kind" gentle girl, who did nothing but study and work in the fields every day, even earning the title of the academic goddess in her college.

But here, the "Qian Qi" was a pariah despised by everyone in the college, notorious across all majors for her jerk personality and love of fighting, and she would unabashedly use her poverty as an excuse to borrow things from her classmates without ever returning them.

On top of that, she was the worst student academically, always at the bottom of her class, and her frequent absences put her at risk of being expelled.

Isn't this just a classic case of a useless loser trope?

But none of this was a big deal for Qian Qi; she was sure she could turn things around with her "personal charm" and become the most popular person in the college.

But...

Qian Qi looked up at the strange black holes in the distance and the giant terrifying plants dancing wildly down the mountain, and she was momentarily at a loss for words.

Why does this world look so dangerous!!!

From the original owner's memories, she learned that this world was filled with all sorts of unstable demon monster dungeons, each containing dangerous magic beasts and magic plants that frequently threatened human safety.

Gifted humans had awakened various skills to combat these invading monsters.

Her current college was established to nurture outstanding young Awakeners, giving them more strength to enter dungeons and hunt demons—this was Awakener University.

Initially, upon learning of this world, Qian Qi was quite happy; entering this university meant the original owner had Awakened Skills. But when she learned of the original owner's major, she scowled immediately.

It turned out she was enrolled in the least popular major at Awakener University—Magic Plant Study!

Also referred to as Magic·Obscure·Futile·Plant Study.

Some experts had already declared that magic plants were useless to humans, and researching them was a complete waste of time.

However, other experts persisted, believing magic plants could be developed into drugs to enhance the human body, though they hadn't figured out how yet.

In the end, after intense debate, humans still established the Magic Plant Research Institute. But due to years of no research breakthroughs, this field was heavily criticized and unpopular with the public.

Very few chose this major.

Besides, the danger level of studying magic plants is extremely high; one wrong move could get you killed by a magic plant. The only career path post-graduation is the institute, and the salary there is laughably low, worse than being a repairman for Light Brains.

So why would anyone risk their life studying magic plants?

Qian Qi herself certainly wouldn't choose it either.

But...

Qian Qi covered her face, as this major required no tuition fees, and even those without awakened skills could apply.

And she, Qian Qi, was that poor person with no Awakened Skills!!!

"Oh, heavens!"

Qian Qi raised the hoe in her hand with indignation, pointing it towards the sky, "How can you treat me like this! At least give me a golden finger!"

[Ding! Triggered a key system action, activating Farming Skill!]

[Awakened Skill One: Decoding Technique

Skill Description: Can decode knowledge related to magic plants.

Skill Refresh Time: Three times a day]

[Awakened Skill Two: Divine Hand

Skill Description: Increase the yield of magic plants planted by Awakeners, increase degree of demonization.

Skill Refresh Time: None]

Qian Qi: !!!

She stared at the blue panel that suddenly appeared before her in shock, "Is the golden finger really here?"

[^_^ Yes.]

"You can even talk with me?"

[Nope~]

Qian Qi: ...

It seemed her golden finger was as "rebellious" as the original owner.

Watching the sun gradually rising in the sky, Qian Qi looked towards the magic plants cultivated by the senior students behind the hill and silently wiped her face.

She still remembered how the original owner died; before sneaking to the back hill to steal magic plant fruits, the original owner asked a dormmate about the weakness of the magic plant. But the academic dormmate gave her the wrong answer, which led to the original owner being killed.

And then, around nearing dawn, Qian Qi transmigrated into the suffocated original owner, with a bitten neck, but still holding tightly onto that fruit in her hand.

Rubbing the magic plant fruit in the cloth pocket, Qian Qi sighed.

She only inherited part of the original owner's memory, so she didn't understand why the original owner wanted to steal it.

"I'll head back to the dorm first." Qian Qi tugged at her bloodstained sleeveless T-shirt; seeing her loose big shorts and flip-flops, she felt helpless at the original owner's sense of fashion.

...

According to the original owner's memory, Qian Qi carried the hoe down the mountain and returned to the dormitory.

At this time, her dormmates were still asleep. Qian Qi pushed open the door and directed her gaze to Chen Miaomiao's bed.

This was the dormmate who deliberately gave the original owner the wrong answer. Qian Qi put down the hoe, touched her neck bitten by a magic plant, and grinned maliciously.

For some reason, this wound didn't hurt, although it remained in a bitten state. She could vaguely feel it was healing.

"Could it be that my golden finger includes unlimited healing?" Qian Qi asked the system expectantly.

[^_^ Just newbie benefits, don't overthink it.]

Qian Qi: ...

That smiley face the system used really deserved a punch.

Qian Qi yanked open the curtain on Chen Miaomiao's bed, forcefully waking her up.

Chen Miaomiao, who was sleeping soundly, was rudely awakened and felt irritated. As she opened her eyes, she was greeted by the bloody, resentful appearance of Qian Qi.

"Miao Miao, I died so miserably—"

"Ah—" Chen Miaomiao screamed in terror, waking everyone in the dorm, "A ghost—"

"Whoa, scared the hell out of me, what's happening?"

"Chen Miaomiao, why are you screaming like a banshee!"

"What's going on?"

Qian Qi admired Chen Miaomiao's frightened face, then, with an innocent expression, she exited the curtain and returned to her own bed.

Ah, how satisfying!

[I never expected your personality to be much better than the original owner's.]

Qian Qi quickly waved her hand: "Don't say that, I'm super gentle and kind, okay?"

She's a civilized person! A really nice person!

If it were the original owner, she would have slapped her already!

The dorm was chaotic for a while, and Chen Miaomiao finally snapped out of her fright. She looked at Qian Qi, who was pretending nothing had happened, with anger, "Qian Qi! Why did you scare me just now!"

She glanced at Qian Qi nervously, especially noticing the wound on Qian Qi's neck, which made her heart pound faster.

Could it be that Qian Qi knew she had given her the wrong answer?

She had originally thought Qian Qi would surely die last night, but who would've thought she'd be so lucky and return alive.

But so what? It was just a "mistake," she didn't know Qian Qi was going to steal the Fire Qilin Lotus fruit!

That's right, she didn't know, it wasn't her fault!
