Chapter 74 - Chapter 26: Wouldn’t Duncan Be Unstoppable Riding a Druid? (Part 2)

Recently, she has developed a taste for danger and constantly wants to stir up trouble.

But beauty is like a bone-scraping knife, and Duncan cannot overly indulge himself at this moment. Occasionally a bit of indulgence is beneficial for his well-being, but too much of it will impact his combat capability.

Wine and women have left me so haggard. Starting today, I quit drinking.

—"Day 23 of crossing: 93 heads."

He took out a little notebook and noted it down.

The recent period of fighting has yielded little, but after entering Great Britain, he gained many new abilities.

It seems he will need to further expand his combat skills by hunting and defeating different enemies.

This battle has added several new abilities.

—"Natural Sailor: The Saxons are born sailors, adept at fighting amidst ocean waves, unlike other invading Barbarian tribes, the Saxons chose to conquer Great Britain. Enhances sailing talent, allowing for quick mastery of sailor abilities."

—"Sea Battle Mastery: You can maintain balance amid sea waves. Saxon pirates excel in naval warfare, able to maintain balance on deck, and some elite pirates can even fight on the mast."

—"Lance Charge Mastery: This belongs to the combat techniques of Barbarian noble knights. They can kill with one strike during a lance charge, and even heavily armored units cannot withstand a full-force lance blow."

I haven't acquired any particularly formidable abilities recently.

It might be because I haven't encountered any formidable opponents, merely accumulating a small enhancement to my basic combat form.

However, under the God's-eye-view projection interface, there have been some special changes.

—"Combat Formation - Wedge Array [Command Skills]: This is the combat artistry of Barbarian noble knights. A human form can order the cavalry units under command to form a wedge array. The power of the cavalry formation depends on the comprehensive strength of the combat units, as well as their training and discipline. It can only command units that follow orders."

—"Combat Formation - Square Array [Command Skills]: One of the conventional fundamental formations."

—"Combat Formation - Rhombus Array [Command Skills]: The formation of Macedonian light cavalry, capable of facing enemies from any direction, avoiding disadvantages. Requires high training and discipline from the commanding unit."

—"Combat Formation - Ring Array [Command Skills]: One of the conventional mounted archery formations."

Battlefield command abilities, perhaps?

Duncan checked the formation interface, primarily divided into cavalry, infantry, and archers, with more tactical formations for cavalry, possibly due to killing many Barbarian noble knights today.

Infantry formations are scarce, just loose and tight formations, along with Rome's standard shield wall and turtle shell arrays, the latter requiring higher training.

There's not much to say about archers, with little room for command.

Higher-level coordination between infantry shields and archers is currently impossible, likely lacking the corresponding command skills, requiring high discipline support.

"All tactical command doesn't depend on my own ability."

"It entirely depends on the unit's level of training and discipline."

In other words, if Duncan gives orders to a group of farmers with no training or discipline, it will still be a chaotic mess.

His talent primarily applies to himself and cannot affect others.

Duncan couldn't find any mark regarding the 'Commander' ability, indicating that it's up to the soldiers' military literacy in real-time scenarios.

However, when a unit is restructured, he can see the extra noted discipline.

If there is a 'Discipline' mark, it indicates that the unit's military literacy is relatively high, not a ragtag group wielding weapons.

Training, discipline, and morale.

This represents all the content on the tactical command interface of the projection screen. Meeting these three conditions makes a unit capable of becoming a main combat force.

"In the end, it still depends on the quality of the recruited soldiers."

Duncan hasn't truly commanded an army yet; the battle against the Exile Rebel Army was just a small skirmish. If faced with a regular army, the Exile Rebel Army would be easily crushed.

The exiles must restructure their forces, concentrating combat-capable units to form new combat organizations.

"Another idea is to form an elite unit."

"Select those marked one star and two stars, mix them into a legion, and they will also have formidable combat power."

However, on the battlefield, individual strength is diminished, making the armor especially important.

Everyone is fragile; without armor and shields, a two-star expert would still die after a few strikes.

"We'll wait and see what Anya's next move is."

"If she can get the Duke of Dingtiger to invite her to help, the exile legion being restructured over at the hideout can justifiably be brought over."

During the battle against the Exile Rebel Army, Duncan defeated a noble's private army.

The captured materials were primarily food, but they also included enough equipment for a Field Army to arm more than thirty people, and the scale armor of the Imperial Field Army is quite solid. Combined with the exiles' existing weapons and equipment, forming a two-hundred-strong mercenary group is feasible.

The number of exiles in the western region of the Empire is vast, and with the massive invasion of the Barbarian Race, the number of refugees will only grow.

Because the Barbarian Race also needs slaves.

As long as Anya can take a piece of land, even nominally, they can easily migrate populations over. A crowd of over ten thousand people can be recruited with ease.

Duncan's foundation is still too weak.
