Xu Lin picked up a copy of the "Ancient Chinese Dictionary," and also a copy of the "Great Chinese Dictionary."
The former is a dictionary specifically for classical text translation.
The latter is a dictionary of Chinese characters. In everyday use, people actually use just over 3,000 characters, but the "Great Chinese Dictionary" includes nearly 55,000 characters. Of course, that's still not all the characters; there are roughly 90,000 in total. The well-known "Xinhua Dictionary," in its latest edition, contains 13,000 Chinese characters.
Recently, he has been preparing to learn classical text translation, planning to go through these two large books. In the future, as long as the classical texts don't involve historical events he's unfamiliar with, basically translation won't be a problem for him at all.
To exaggerate a bit, nationwide, when it comes to classical text translation, perhaps no one could match him.
