Chapter 14 - Mt. Glenn Detour

It took a while, but once classes were over, I summoned Torrent and took off towards Vale's walls. After getting through the mess that was the Wall guard, I headed off toward Mountain Glenn. While I could have taken a Bullhead, one of those flying contraptions, I couldn't stand them. The unsteadiness of them when they were in the air made me sick, plus I have been neglecting to let Torrent free to run. So when Torrent was let loose, they ran like the wind.

About an hour into my travels, Torrent and I stumbled across an overturned wagon. Marks of a fight scared the area. From the looks of it, it was bandits that did this due to the presence of bullet holes in both the wagon and the nearby trees. As Torrent and I neared the wagon, Beowolfs began to emerge from the brush. Not wanting to take the chance of them wandering close to Vale, I drew my Bastard sword and urged Torrent to charge them.

It was only three Beowolfs, but I still took them seriously. The first one was beheaded, the second one was speared, and the last was trampled under hoof by Torrent. Just as I was about to ride off, I heard someone clapping their hands.

Turning, I saw a man who looked like he had seen better days and hadn't bathed in a year. A slender man with long, dirty-blond hair and gray eyes has a unique style of dress. His attire includes a dark blue and gray jacket with torn sleeves, worn over a long-sleeved shirt. He accessorizes with a bandana around his neck and a shoulder pad on his right shoulder. His outfit is completed with brown leather fingerless gloves with straps, brown pants, and boots. Around him, several thugs and bandits arrived from the thicket.

I immediately wanted to bash this guy's face in before he said a word.

.

"Well, well, well," The man's voice sounded like gravel, "Looks like we have a knight in shining armor."

.

Before he could say another word, I urged Torrent forward towards the bandits. Just before I clashed with them, I hopped off Torrent and slammed my bastard sword down with great force. The slender man with blond hair was split in two, with his blood flying everywhere. The bandits, who were cocky, were now scared at how simply I took one of their buddies' lives.

Without waiting for them to come to me, I charged them. I took the first one's head off. The second was split diagonally. The third and fourth ones were speared through simultaneously. As for the fifth one, they collapsed in sheer terror, and from the smell of it, they pissed themselves while they were at it.

As I raised my bastard sword to end their life, a raven swooped down and transformed into a black-haired woman with red eyes. In her hands was a blood-red katana, which was aimed directly at my head. With the speed at which her blade was descending, I easily parried it and shield-bashed her in the chest. She quickly reoriented herself and sent a kick towards my face.

I dropped my sword and grabbed her foot before swinging her around and throwing her into a tree. She quickly transformed back into a bird and flew around before attacking me in my back. I blocked the sudden stab that was sent my way with my shield. Her sword shattered against my shield, and she backed off.

She glanced down at her shattered sword before swinging the shattered blade towards me. The blade detached from the handle and shot towards me like an arrow. I rolled out of the way and picked up my sword before facing the woman. Before I knew it, the woman and the bandit that was there were gone. In their place was a blood-red portal that closed shut soon after.

.

"Well, that was something," I muttered as I called Torrent back from the ring, "Never fought someone that could transform into and out of a bird."

.

As I got back onto Torrent, my eyes saw where the broken blade from that woman was lodged into a tree. I urged Torrent over to it and retrieved it. After examining it for a second, I put it into my Bottomless bag and continued towards Mt. Glenn.

Little did I know that the fight was an important first meeting.

I sighed as I pulled the only survivor of Shay's group through my portal. If I weren't going to find and chew out Shay for overextending, his group would have been lost. The only survivor, a whelp, was the only one I could save. That man in the armor, his skills were impeccable. His mind was as sharp as an arrow. The way he moved and fought spoke of years of experience and countless battles.

I shook my head. I currently have better things to do than think about someone I just fought.

.

"Welp," I spoke, addressing the only survivor, "You and I need to have a long talk about why you are the only survivor.

"Yes, Ma'am," the welp whimpered.

I sighed as I entered the ruins of Mountain Glenn. A once-promising expansion of Vale, only to be overrun by Grimm. As I entered the main road, I could already see several different types of Grimm that were coming to greet me. I sighed again as I took out my bastard sword and urged Torrent forward.

After fighting for close to an hour, the tide of Grimm lessened, and I was able to ride Torrent through the streets without fighting too much. And soon I came close to where the Site of Grace was. Just as I was about to take a turn at a crossroads, Amber came out of a building a little farther up. Seeing me, she waved and beckoned me over to her. Seeing no trap, I urged Torrent forward. Upon reaching the building, Amber came up and patted Torrent as I got off.
