Chapter 10 - Innate Spells

Sitting in the Necrotower's training room, Zhang swallowed the first Primordial item after completely dissolving it into a powder. Feeling the energy spreading throughout his body, he focused on guiding it in the way Immortal had taught him.

A few seconds later, he felt something connect with his soul, as if a kind of clothing was over his soul. When he focused on this new part of his soul, he saw a dimly lit space that was a little over 3 square meters. Wanting to test his new innate spell, he took out several personal items from his tree bag and moved them to this new space.

Soon, the pocket dimension that was now part of his soul had successfully stored all the items that were previously in his bag. The name "Soul Box" was something that both his master and the Eternal King had told him to use for his first soul-type innate spell. Since it was common for Necromancers to die, or discard their bodies in times of danger, "Soul Box" could ensure that all of their most important items would not be lost.

In Valyria, it was thanks to this spell that Immortal escaped death without losing a single item he had with him. The spell would also grow with the strengthening of the soul, ensuring that space was constantly expanding. Satisfied, Zhang took out a twisted heart from the second box and crushed it into a paste, quickly swallowing it. Unlike the previous item, this one tasted horrible.

As soon as he followed all the steps, a new power surged within his body. This time, it was a passive power. Zhang took out a small knife from his bag and cut the palm of his hand.

Blood gushed out from the cut, and then the blood flow slowed. Less than 3 seconds later, the blood stopped flowing completely, then less than 15 seconds later, the cut had completely closed, and a few seconds later, not a single scar was left behind. Zhang clenched his fist tightly, checking that no scars remained. A smile soon appeared on his face.

"The passive innate spell 'Regeneration' was amazing!"

Necromancers could not heal their injuries using magic. All healing spells worked as weapons against them. Therefore, even a simple injury, if not treated well, could lead to death. The same went for healing potions. Luckily for them, basic blood magic could still help. But if you were on the verge of death or in the middle of a fight, you wouldn't have time to perform any kind of ritual.

But even blood magic had limitations. "Necrotic energy" was something that accumulated in the bodies of Necromancers due to their constant desecration of life. It was a constant form of punishment and balance, created by the world of Planetos itself. All of the most basic spells of Necromancers always used souls as their reagents. It was impossible to get rid of this energy unless one completely stopped desecrating souls.

Therefore, "Regeneration" was the second indication from the Immortal and Eternal King to ease Zhang's journey on the path of a true Necromancer. Another important point to note was the advantage that only those with Body and Soul affinity could have. It was said that "Regeneration" would also help speed up resurrection by facilitating the reconstruction of the new body after death.

With the two new innate spells and the three new basic spells he had learned, Zhang now had a total of 5 spells, something incredible for someone who had just started on the path of magic. Having a rich and powerful master and a generous King supporting you makes one's journey easier…

There was also 1 body-type spell he was learning, but its effects were so basic that it barely added anything to the body already improved by Alteration and Body Refining. Zhang almost considered not spending any more resources on learning this affinity. Very different from soul spells, even the simplest ones could combine to become advanced spells. No one had ever created an advanced body-type spell.

That was why, besides Body Refining and Blood Magic, this attribute could only shine through innate spells.

"The Eternal King could have any more of these items with him, right?" Zhang thought.

Taking advantage of the fact that he was now in the training room, he took out the "Velo Mortis" cloak.

It was a pity that such an item only had one spell, but its ability to store souls without needing them to be in the form of stones was also quite good. Deciding to test its ability, Zhang shattered a soul stone, allowing the soul to be captured by the cloak that was now bound to him.

Although he couldn't see the process, he felt that he could use the stored soul to activate the Relic's advanced flight spell. The feeling was truly magical. Zhang's body slowly floated off the ground, and he could easily control the direction and altitude as well. He quickly reached the ceiling of the training room and smiled broadly.

As a child, he and his friends dreamed of flying through the skies while watching the dragons of Valyria, but they knew that a Valyrian could only do so when they had their dragon… It was only later that they realized that such a dream was something impossible for commoners.

But here he was now, wasn't he? He would brag when he met Rafael and Omar next time… His friends were still far from achieving such a feat. But with magic, they would all be able to fulfill their childhood dreams…

While he smiled and thought about how to show off to his friends, 1 minute passed since the spell was activated using a single soul, and Zhang fell from where he was flying with a loud crash.

"Ugggh"

Groaning as he stood up, the minor injuries caused by the fall were quickly healed by his new innate spell, regeneration, and Zhang took out his familiar notebook, writing down something obvious:

1 soul = 1 minute of flight.

"So even if I have 50 souls stored, I can only fly for 50 minutes… It's not so bad…"

"…Oh right, I must remember not to fly inside the city so as not to die, but I must do some tests outside to confirm its maximum speed and maneuverability…"

While Zhang made many plans and also continued his training with his new master, time quickly advanced in Stygai…
