UK:GSW Chapter 362 – Darkened Obito: Black Man Question Mark Face + Damn You, Kakashi!

"What? Sasuke and Snake Team have returned? And they have that strange pink turtle? So it really is some kind of unknown Six Paths treasure?"

Within the Land of Fire, upon suddenly receiving the news of Snake Team's return, Obito's eyes flashed coldly beneath his mask. He became deeply interested in the treasure, intent on claiming it for himself.

In fact, Black Zetsu had the same idea.

The only difference was that Black Zetsu believed it to be an Otsutsuki artifact, not some mere Six Paths treasure. After all, as the elder "brother" of Hagoromo and Hamura, Black Zetsu would obviously know about every trinket the Sage of Six Paths and his younger brother had made.

From the day of his creation, he had been in the shadows watching over his two "little brothers" like the ultimate mommy's boy.

Regardless, both he and Obito wanted this mysterious treasure that had caused Snake Team to vanish for some time. Both already had a plan: when Sasuke and Itachi fought their fated duel, they would take the opportunity to seize it.

Black Zetsu planned to remain in the shadows and let Obito do the work—because once Obito obtained it, Black Zetsu was confident he could snatch it away at any time. After all, Obito still carried the failsafe Uchiha Madara had planted in him, and Black Zetsu controlled that failsafe.

Even if by some fluke Obito managed to remove it, Black Zetsu was still confident he could control him. As a creation of Yin–Yang Release, there were few in the world who could withstand his surprise attacks.

Of course, that was just the sneak attack part. What happened after a sneak attack was another matter—just as in the original story, where even after ambushing Obito, Sasuke, and Naruto, Black Zetsu could only restrain them while Madara and Kaguya did the actual fighting.

As for his infiltration of Madara's heart, that was only possible because Black Zetsu had thoroughly deceived him into believing he was his own will incarnate, and once Madara thought victory was assured, he absorbed Black Zetsu into his body.

If not for that, controlling Madara—who by then had become the second Sage of Six Paths—would have been almost impossible. If Black Zetsu truly had the ability to ambush and control a Sage-level opponent, he would have struck at his "two younger brothers" over a thousand years ago.

In this state of mutual plotting, Obito—or rather, the Akatsuki—received another series of reports: Konoha had suddenly rolled out something called the "Genjutsu Game."

White Zetsu even acquired a copy. After trying it, they all gave it glowing praise.

Pain, the Akatsuki's nominal leader, even remarked that if the opportunity arose, he would obtain the technology behind it. In the peaceful shinobi world he envisioned—created through pain and fear—this would be an important supplementary tool.

As for exactly how to use it, that could be decided later.

Incidentally, Nagato himself tried the Genjutsu Game. Experiencing a healthy body without pain inside the game was almost like being reborn.

Though he could control the Six Paths of Pain through the Rinnegan and share basic senses with them, it was nothing like moving in his own body. And the agony his real body endured never ceased. Compared to that, the Genjutsu Game was pure bliss.

The game even had a "safety valve": if the player's body was physically touched, they could still sense it, and if their condition became dangerous and needed immediate medical attention, the game would automatically shut off, returning their consciousness to reality.

With Konan always by his side, Nagato had no worries about his safety while immersed.

Konan herself even hoped Nagato would get addicted to it—because within the game, he could be free from the constant pain and find peace.

She couldn't help but think that perhaps the Eye of the Moon Plan Obito described might result in something similar—Nagato finding peace within an illusion.

Unfortunately, Nagato rejected the Eye of the Moon. To him, an illusion was still an illusion. His plan for peace was to gather the Tailed Beasts and create a superweapon, using its threat to make all nations taste pain so they would long for peace and fear war.

That was the current Akatsuki Tailed Beast hunt in progress.

Thus, his cooperation with "Uchiha Madara" was strictly temporary. Nagato was prepared to turn on him once the Tailed Beasts were collected, since their visions were fundamentally opposed. They were allies only for now, a band that could break up at any time.

In fact, Nagato also thought the Eye of the Moon Plan was essentially the same as the Genjutsu Game—except now that the game existed, the plan was even less necessary.

Obito, meanwhile, was astonished after trying the game himself. He thought it was practically a "mini" version of the Eye of the Moon Plan's intended result.

Then, his instincts told him something else—the Genjutsu Game was likely connected to the Uchiha, perhaps even the Sharingan. As an Uchiha himself, he could feel the link between the game's genjutsu and the Sharingan.

In the main world, this wasn't a secret. Konoha and the Uchiha had openly advertised it from the start. But in World No. 2, this was hidden knowledge. So upon sensing it, Obito's mind raced—and then he grew furious. Konoha had clearly used Sharingan collected from somewhere to make the Genjutsu Game!

He immediately thought of the source—those stolen on the night of the Uchiha Massacre by Root. That damned Shimura Danzo must have done all sorts of monstrous experiments to develop this.

Perhaps it was even Danzo's plot to gain the Hokage seat—after all, the game's benefits could win him immense prestige and profit!

…Huh? What? This was developed by Kakashi?

…What? How? Kakashi wasn't an Uchiha.

Oh, right—Kakashi had his Sharingan. Theoretically, he could have developed it.

Fine then—wait, no! Why would Kakashi use the Sharingan to make something like this?

Could it be that his old friend had been broken by constant loss and sought happiness in an illusory world?

Tch, Kakashi… you really are a failed counterfeit!

Obito's anger flared, his Sharingan burning beneath the mask.

If Uchiha Kei saw this, he'd probably mock Obito for having a hole in his head. The man sought Infinite Tsukuyomi to make everyone dream, yet got angry at the idea that his best friend might have made a "mini" version first. Who knew what exactly he was mad about?

Maybe it was that only he could achieve the Eye of the Moon Plan—no one else, least of all his best friend.

Or maybe, deep down, some remnant of the old Obito still wanted Kakashi, the bearer of his eye, to stop him in the end.

Either way, trying to understand the thought process of an extremist with severe mental instability was pointless.

While Obito was stewing, another report arrived: Konoha's leadership was in conflict over the Genjutsu Game's ownership. The Hokage faction had launched it without consulting the Elders, and now they fought constantly.

Obito sneered. Even after all this time, Konoha's leadership still loved in-fighting—unchanged, the world's biggest joke.

But it was what they deserved. Among the Five Great Nations, only Kirigakure was more rotten than Konoha.

He was certain Danzo was involved. After all, it was exactly how the Uchiha had been pushed to revolt—Obito had only gone along with it. At first, he'd never even thought Konoha would wipe out the entire clan. The worst he'd imagined was the rebels being killed and half the clan dead.

But when Itachi contacted him, the request was to help wipe out the entire clan—on Danzo's orders.

Honestly, the first time he heard that, he was glad to be wearing a mask, or they'd have seen his "black man question mark" face.

The information was too shocking to process.

Both Danzo and Itachi's thinking was incomprehensible to the then-22-year-old Obito, though deeply impactful.

Still, Obito hadn't stopped them. To him, the world was an illusion anyway, and the Uchiha were full of uncertainty that could hinder the Eye of the Moon Plan. If Konoha wanted to cut off an arm, why should he refuse?

After all, once the Eye of the Moon succeeded, the Uchiha could live happily in the dream world.

Danzo, however, had no place in that dream. In fact, Obito had already scripted his death: Sasuke would kill him.

In his plan, Danzo's greatest use was to serve as Sasuke's revenge target after Obito revealed the truth of the massacre.

Obito was sure that with Danzo as the outlet for his vengeance, Sasuke would loyally follow him thereafter. After all, revenge was a great favor—why would Sasuke ever betray him?

This wave? An easy win!

Indeed, in the original story, Obito did this—helping Sasuke transplant Itachi's Mangekyo to give him the Eternal Mangekyo, believing he'd secured Sasuke as a great asset for the Eye of the Moon.

And then…

Then Sasuke told him he was his own man, with his own ideas. Worse, Itachi was revived, and the brothers shared a heartfelt reunion—leaving Obito with a "big boss" over his head.

That was the original story.

Now, however, Obito's plan collapsed early. White Zetsu brought new intel: Danzo had been taken down, Root destroyed—by none other than Kakashi Hatake, who led the ANBU with Jiraiya to annihilate them.

This "Jiraiya" was World No. 2's older version; White Zetsu, following Kei's orders, made no mention of the main world's younger Jiraiya.

Obito was stunned. Black Zetsu was surprised too, though far less so—Danzo's deeds made his end inevitable.

Frankly, the only reason Danzo had lived this long was Konoha's overly tolerant culture. In most other villages, someone like him and Root would never have been allowed to exist.

For Obito, this turn of events completely derailed his plans.

He'd been saving Danzo for Sasuke's revenge to buy his loyalty—now Danzo might die at any moment, and he couldn't even deliver the "gift."

Damn you, Kakashi! You wretched counterfeit! Why are you suddenly doing these strange things? If you wanted to be a slacker all your life, why not keep slacking? Why start making all these shocking moves now?

Unforgivable!

Obito entered full grudge mode toward his old friend Kakashi.
