Chapter 13 - The Demon Lord's Proposal

*Kuwanami's appearance in his dorm really made Rowan question the academy's security, but because he had already made a contract talk with the Demon Lord Rowan stayed fearless in front of the Demonic General. In response to Rowan's fearlessness the Demon General just grew more curious about the human the Demon Lord has been paying attention to as well as left him a message. It might have been a coincidence but both had their meeting at the correct time. Kumanami had came to look into the sudden chaos in the Royal Academy and the human the Demon Lord was paying attention to while Rowan needed to give that exact information to the Demon Lord. After a short talk it the bugs left Rowan's room and soon despaired without a track. Rowan decided to map out his plan on paper and write everything he knew down into a book so that in the coming years he could keep a proper track of everything. In less then a week classes were active again and it was clear that over 50% of the first year students were either injured and expelled or decided to quit. Those who were still left were either important to the main story, talent, lucky or were at least decently talented to have not suffered an injury. Activities in the academy were going as always but each and every professor that was related to the dungeon test were either on leave or were avoiding students completely.

A few days passed, most things went back to normal in the Academy as classes progressed and the pressure of the final exams started creeping into everyone's minds. Rowan's near regular visits to the academy church were systematic and timed at times when at max only the saintess is present. Then came the day when the Demon General of Gluttony and Bugs once again appeared, but this time with a proposal. The Demon Lord had noticed that the illegal mining of Chaos gems was happening at a location which was so hidden even the Demon Generals could locate it. Thus, Kuwanami had once again sent out her Bugs to locate suspicious areas in the capital and was able to find a structure that looks far from being a church but had layers of Mana and Holy Mana shields protecting it. This kind of barrier could only occur in case a High Level Priest and a High Level Mage were to combine their powers together to form it. The Demon Lord proposed that Rowan see if he could do some investigation on this matter as the holy magic was stronger then the mana shield and was more optimal against Demons then Humans. Rowan didn't find a reason not to except because they were more or less aiming at the same thing. Rowan as found out from his research on the Void Magic that it was powers to consume or suppress all forms of mana to an extend, thus it could break the mana shields or at least create a hole in it without alerting anyone. Void Magic was also effective on transferring mana from it's target to it's user which was just a better opportunity for Rowan to increase his mana. Not to mention Mana being one of the only states which he could easily increase from just training himself or consuming elixirs as after a point even those don't help so much. Void magic was still new for Rowan because all his training was more in theory then first hand combat so nervousness was valid.

Kuwanami decided to use her bugs as support for Rowan in case he were to be in danger. As soon as night fell, Rowan was out sneaking out of the academy and to the location guided by the bugs. Reaching the location was not thought but the location itself was a different story. Far from the capital's boarders layed a structure which looked like an abandoned castle covered by plants and vines which hid it partly. The barriers were not notable except if you try destroy it or get too close deliberately. Using his void magic, Rowan entered the structure and could see how that the place was used recently because the fire touches were still quite hot. Looking at the fact that everything looked dusty except a single door that was separately protected by barriers. Going thought there he found a tunnel and tracks of Chaos gems. Rowan decided to investigate more and went down the tunnel while observing everything in case someone was still there. Unlike the academy where only person who are either talented professors, well known adventurers or mercenaries who had been to the lasts fight against a Demon General were taken as official professors and were restricted to do real combat against the students were strong as a teacher but couldn't really teach more then a certain area because of the limits that were placed on them. In comparison to that the outside world was more dangerous and unpredictable, having seen the whole game and an extend of what could happen Rowan was being extra careful with his every move.

He knew if it came to it, he wouldn't be able to fight against a professor going all out, thugs were manageable but in case a demon revolting against the Demon Lord trying to take part in destroying the world was to be present, the least me could lose would be a limb. After getting a good understand of the tunnel and conforming his suspicions, Rowan came out of the structure and found Kuwanami talking to an shadow like figure. After the figure disappeared, Rowan showed her the information and took her into the structure to show her the tracks of Chaos gem that was left there. Then Rowan headed back to the academy as the sun was about to rise and the Demonic General of Gluttony and Bugs commanded her bugs to return to her. Rowan also received an artifact that could send messages directly to an individual from long distances without leaving a track from the bugs as a gift from the Demon Lord a few days later. Thus, the active struggle against the Hero and Gods began in silence with both sides not wanting the disaster the Gods had planned*.
