Chapter 113 - Chapter 113: Fight with the gunmen

Axel tried Jayvaughn's number again. The call rang out with no answer. His jaw tightened as a heavy knot settled in his stomach. By now, his nerves were strung so tight they felt ready to snap. He cursed himself quietly for never asking for PA Ryan's number. If he had it, he could have called and at least learned where Jayvaughn was.

The living room suddenly felt too small. Axel got to his feet and began pacing back and forth, his movements sharp and restless. Every few steps, he ran a hand through his hair or tapped his phone against his palm. He considered driving to Jayvaughn's company to check for himself. But something deep in his gut told him Jayvaughn wouldn't be there. That instinct had never once failed him.

The pacing grew faster. Axel bit the edge of his thumb, eyes darting from the door to the window as his mind ran through possibilities. None of them were good.
