Commander Luke stared at Jayvaughn for a long moment, completely speechless. The young man stood before him like a perfectly obedient soldier, eyes forward, posture straight, lips sealed. Luke knew better. Jayvaughn wasn't obedient; he was simply pretending to be for the sake of avoiding another lecture. The realization made Luke huff in frustration. Continuing to be angry would only waste his breath.
Finally, he exhaled heavily and broke the silence. "You're here to investigate those criminals you and Lucian captured, aren't you?"
Jayvaughn nodded.
Luke gave a slow nod of his own. "Then here's what I'm going to do. I'll speak with the general and arrange authorization to reinstate you as captain of this base. Once you've led us through this operation against LEVO, you can decide whether to remain or walk away again."
