Brisa's expression darkened, her face draining of color. Her brows furrowed as she looked at Jayvaughn, fear lacing her voice. "You told me no one was recording. Are you telling me you lied to me?" Her voice trembled as her eyes locked on his, searching desperately for reassurance. "I know you, Jayvaughn. You don't lie. You wouldn't do that. You're just trying to scare me on purpose, aren't you? Tell me you're just trying to scare me."
By the time she spoke that last sentence, her voice had grown smaller, and her eyes glistened with unshed tears. She stared at him pitifully, almost pleading, waiting for him to shake his head and tell her she was right, that he had only been bluffing.
