Vanessa:
A buzzing sound came from beside me, pulling me out of my sleep. I stretched my hands, trailing the sound, trying to reach for my phone until I finally grabbed it.
"Hello," I spoke up with sleepy eyes.
"Hello, Vanessa. How're you doing today?" The voice echoed from the other end. I glanced at my phone screen again; it was an unknown number.
"Who is this?" I asked."It's me, Clark."
"Ohh… I'm fine," I replied, "Why are you calling me? It's still early in the morning," I said, getting pissed off.He laughed. "Check again, Mrs. Greyson."
"Shoot!" I cursed when I checked the time. I didn't know it was already past 10 in the morning. How come no one remembered to wake me up?"So why did you call?" I asked cautiously.
"Yeah, about that… I just wanted you to know that Scot is staying over at my place. Just thought you needed to know," he finished."Thanks for letting me know," I told him, "and Clark, I'd like to talk to you about Scot."
"Did he do something bad? I could ask him to leave."
"No!" I said a little too quickly, "He didn't do anything bad. I just want to talk."Alright. Come to the office, we'll talk over lunch. How does that sound?"
"Sounds great. See you later then." I hang up.After Scot left angrily, I waited for him, hoping he was going to come back, but I slept off while waiting. Since we got married, we haven't spent a night together.
We barely even talked to each other, and I was beginning to worry.
I dragged myself out of bed, heading for the bathroom.
That was when it dawned on me that I was in the wrong room.
Everything seems abandoned and old.I rushed out of the room, running in the empty hallway, trying to find a familiar side of the huge mansion.
Suddenly, I hit my face on the side arm of a well-built body structure."Oww," I whimpered in pain as I staggered backwards to the ground."Mrs. Greyson?… Are you okay, ma'am?" the muscular man asked, looking down at him.
I recognized him as the bodyguard of Scot's father, the one with a ponytail back from the station."Yes, I'm fine… I guess," I said, chuckling with a hand rubbing my forehead.
"Sorry I didn't see you coming," he stretched his hand to help me up, "where have you been? We've been looking all over for you", he said. His grip was so strong."I think I got lost."
"This place is a restricted area," that explains why nobody came to get me. "Come, I'll escort you to the dining room," he said nicely. We headed to the dining room, and there I saw Scot's father. He was done with his meal and was about to leave for the office when he saw me.
"Vanessa, where've you been?""She was taking a tour around the mansion, sir," The bodyguard covered me.Scot's father sighed briefly before speaking.
"Well… I had a meeting with your dad. We're formally announcing the mergers between our two companies tomorrow, so prepare."
"Ok," I replied, barely interested. He left the house with the bodyguard and I was left all alone with just the housekeepers in the mansion.
**********************************************************
I arrived at the huge 80ft story building stationed in front of me. Some reporters were all around the entrance of the building.
I assumed they thought Scot was in. High above the building, there was a sign, "THE GREYSON'S ENTERPRISE," written in titanium color.I walked in with my sunglasses, hoping none of the reporters would recognize me.
I was talking to the receptionist, who had denied me entry because I didn't have an appointment, when I heard my name from behind.
"Vanessa!!!" I turned my gaze to see Clark.
Thank goodness. I walked to meet him."I've been expecting you. Come, let's go," he said, leading me out.
We both went to a nearby restaurant.
He was wearing a black suit and a Rolex wristwatch to complement his elegant look.
He signaled to a waitress, and she came, smiling and gaping at him seductively. I wasn't hungry, so I asked for some water.
The restaurant looks classy and barely crowded.
I guess it must be his favorite spot for lunch."So… what do you want to know about Scot?" he asked when the waitress left with our order.
I drew my chair closer, turning inquisitive. "Has he always been like this? You know… temperamental and all?…" I asked cautiously.
"Well, we all know that Scot can be a d**k sometimes, but he has not always been like this," he told me.
"Why? What made him change?"Clark sighed.
"Truth is… he started behaving this way about three years ago when he lost his mother.
The news really got to him. To all of us. She was a really nice woman, you know."
"I'm really sorry about that," I said, blinking rapidly to stop any form of tears from building up in my eyes. The waitress came back with our orders, and just as soon as she left…"Oh shit!"
"What happened?" I asked Clark with raised brows. He seemed to be surprised at what he saw.
I followed his gaze. It was Scot on the TV screen. Clark signaled to the bartender behind the bar stand to increase the volume of the TV.'
'Mr. Scot Greyson, son of the most influential man and the owner of The Greyson Enterprise, has just been spotted outside the company's building'.
I think he has finally made up his mind to speak to the crowd regarding his actions that led to the victim involved in his outbursts being comatose…"I know my actions were bad, and I want to apologize for the way I've behaved.
I realized that I had no excuses for my actions and that I'd hurt the young man by beating him up so badly.
I did what I did because I saw he and his friends were trying to take advantage of my state, you know... Being alone, I tried to rob him, but now I see that my response was the wrong call.
I wish I had made a different decision. I can't change that now, but if there is anything I can do to make amends, then I'm willing to do it."
"Why is he doing that?" Clark asked, paying close attention to the TV."What? You mean apologizing?… Isn't he supposed to do that? I was thinking it is for the best."
"No, you don't understand. Scot has never apologized," Clark said.
The expression on his face was a mixture of shock and confusion.I laughed. "Well… good, he's doing it now."
I know Scot's apology may not have come from the heart, seeing the way he says it, but I think it was the right thing to do so as not to draw too much attention to himself, even though he was only trying to defend himself.
But if Clark said he's never apologized, why then did he do it?
