Chapter 30 - C030 : Status Update

The drop of blood ichor fell upon Shurry's exposed back, activating the falna's light. The glyphs began to change and shift as Baldr made changes to Shurry's status. Though, there was a huge issue… Shurry's excelia had reached a point where applying the entirety of it at once was simply not possible, his body would never be able to handle it.

"Son, I'll get you as much as possible, so promise me that you'll get yourself accustomed to the new strength before your next update."

"He really has that much excelia? Wow, he really did get worked to the bone living there in Telskyura." Idunn said with a shocked expression. "It's a shame it's too demanding and so terrible for the children there. I could never adopt a similar idea. It's crude and too heartless."

"Papa, what do you mean? Can I not go to the cap yet?" Shurry asked, a little confused. "I should have more than enough. Kali said as much the last time she checked." He asked.

"Oh, you have plenty, that's not the problem." Baldr smiled. "Rather, you have too much. It's way more than the change that children experience when they level up." He chuckled. "So, I'm going to bring you up to the limit you can handle. Just like this." He said, and then… He wrote down the status on a paper. And handed it to Shurry.

"Huh? What is this? Scribbles?"

"Oh my, dear, have you not learned to read yet?"

"Uhm… I can read a little, but this is… I don't know it…"

Baldr and Idunn frowned, and thought. Poor child. He really went through a lot, and didn't even get to read?

"Don't worry, I'll teach you everything!" Idunn declared, nuzzling cheeks with Shurry. "Alright, so this right here, she began explaining the status.

After going through all of what his new status had on it, he was completely shocked. He may have lost a powerful skill, but he gained 4 skills and 2 magics. There is another skill appearing as a negative skill, though it's only negative for him. Though if one takes out the ones that his contract with Luna created, then he gained 3 skills on his own. All of which turned out to be good things, despite what happened to him. He was happy, even without the full cap on his status' basic attributes. He got excited and wanted to try everything out. Especially the one skill that just got upgraded.

Right around the same time as they finished talking about his status, someone else arrived. He was stopped by Leon.

"Ah, Leon, have you seen Lord Baldr around? I'd like to speak with him about something."

"He's inside updating his son's status." Leon answered, chuckling a little. "Lady Idunn is also inside."

"Oh, I see. So he's already updated someone's status today then?" The man's long ears drooped a little bit. "Do you think he'll be willing to do another today?"

"Ah, that's right you were curious if you'd leveled up yet. Well, I'm not sure, I can't speak for him. But, he is rather kind, and it'll be nice to see a new first class among our teacher ranks."

The infectious charisma Leon exuded was truly something else. For enough he was a dwarf, even the elves couldn't find any fault with how he held himself. That included the one currently awaiting a status update, his name, Malik Alfort.

"I see, then if you don't mind I'd like to wait." Malik uttered, taking a place to stand next to Leon. "It's been quite some time since I leveled up. I should be close to my max status by now."

"Don't worry about it too much, Malik, you'll level up when it's time for you to do so. No sooner and no later. Though if you want some comforting words. I think you've made it. Even so… I'm not taking you to help with the fight. You'll remain with the students to continue alone, in the event I don't return."

"Surely you don't mean that you'll die? What could possibly kill you?"

"Ahahaha, there's a few things out there that could put it off. And I'm sure that the dungeon has more than a few issues beneath the surface."

"I see…"

"... Hey, you can come in now. We're done."

Leon turned around and grabbed the handle. He stopped and looked at Malik. "Remember, you ask no questions about the boy's origins, or his upbringing. His past is too difficult. Just hearing about it might make you puke your guts out. He's had it rough."

"I understand? I won't ask about the boy."

"Good, then let's head inside." Leon smiled.

The two of them entered the room. Shurry was sitting on the desk, happily practicing his written words, his tail flicking side to side. Idunn giggled and praised him once he got something right, making his tail just do its thing even more. Occasionally his tail would form a question mark while he thought, but aside from that, the two of them were having a blast.

Baldr was holding a sheet of paper, one they used specifically for writing out one's status. His eyes showed a hint of worry, or curiosity. It was hard to tell right away, which was not usual for Leon.

"Oh, Malik, you came as well?"

"Yes, Lord Baldr, I was hoping to receive a status update."

"Ah, I see. Well, that shouldn't be a problem. In fact I was just thinking I'd need an example… My son's status… Eh, no matter. If you're fine with doing it right here, I can take care of it right away."

Malik looked over to the boy, and chuckled a little before sighing. "He won't try to look at it will he?"

"No, he's a good boy. And besides, he seems to really like learning his words, with his mother over there."

Malik smiled, softly. "I see, so that wasn't just a playful jest of Leon's. You've really adopted him then." His mind went back to a time when he heard Baldr explain what it would take to make him adopt a mortal as if they were truly of his own loins… "His past must have been terrible. I won't ask for details though." He said, turning his back to Baldr, and removing his shirt.

"There's no need to worry, though, if you want to know more… I'll have to explain it in a safer place, with access to a readily available receptacle."

"Why's that?"

"Because, even though you just leveled up, you'll still vomit everywhere once you learn of the truth." Baldr said, handing the completed status update over. "Your heritage would all but demand it of you. Even the gods wouldn't stomach it, eh some might, but those ones have horrible personalities."
