Leon ran through the streets, seeing a constant stream of cop cars and soldiers. In the distance were louder noises, which he could only assume to be tanks. If him and Allan didn't leave now, things would be way harder.
"Allan, do you know a way out of this?" Leon asked. He had his telekinesis out, the hook just out of his hand, ready to shoot out if he needed it. But the big question was if his power would even be useful against the tanks.
"Outrunning feds?" Allan asked casually, turning a corner and seeing two police cars approaching. "It's easier than it looks."
Allan ran towards the cars, and Leon followed.
"Follow me, and keep running."
Allan dashed towards the cars, and Leon followed, making sure the powers were active. Just as they were about to meet the cars, Allan made a sharp turn around the corner, which Leon followed. One of the cars continued down the road, while the other tried swerving towards them. It failed, getting stuck in the narrow passageway. Allan high fived Leon, dove underground, and emerged when the cop approached them with his gun out, knocking him out instantly. Allan casually stripped him of his uniform and shoved it in his backpack.
"It's an armoured model." Allan said casually when he got back to Leon. "Really good at taking on bullets from the front, pretty bad at sharp turns. "Plus, now we have a disguise to break in."
"Break in?" Leon asked. "Allan, our plan is to escape."
"Leon, if we get hold of some kind of document that proves the government is involved in this game, then we expose the 'gods' and the governments involvement. And then we win! It's over! The people will see how corrupt the people in power are and rise up. The new world order is done for!"
Leon looked at how Allan frantically explained his master plan to him, and he just…knew it wasn't gonna happen. Even if he was actually right, people wouldn't rise up. They don't rise up to unjust foreign wars, so a bunch of teenagers being made to kill each other won't impact much either. People are too tired from work and preoccupied with their own lives to think about making any major changes to the system. As long as they can eat, they're probably fine to carry on as usual.
"I'm gonna be honest, Allan. I'm not interested. I'm just gonna keep going until I can win, okay? I'll be taking on the gods myself eventually, but let's focus on not dying, okay?"
Allan glared at him and looked ready to go on another tirade, but a scream was let out before he could say anything. Allan pushed Leon aside, running through the streets to see who could be in trouble, and it was Janet. One car in front of her, with two soldiers emerging, guns in hand. One put a foot on her sunglasses, shattering them. Janet gave out a defeated whimper when she heard the noise, her hand over her eyes.
"Leon, we gotta save her!" Allan yelled. "Think of the rewards!"
Allan sank underground. He came back up in front of Janet, grabbing her and sinking underground once again, leaving her with Leon. Leon stepped in front of her as the soldiers pointed their guns, the first one being taken out as Allan emerged. The second one let a shot out, which Allan barely managed to move under, sinking back below the ground. Leon shot the hook forward. The solider stepped back just in case, and the hook hit the car. It wrapped around it fairly easily, the solider still having his gun pointed at Leon, looking at the pink energy around his hand.
Leon pulled his hand back, and the police car flung itself towards him. The solider turned back for a brief second before the car crushed him. The sound of breaking bones was heard, and Leon just hoped the guy was okay, for some reason. Maybe he was a little sympathetic. After all, the guy needed a job just as much as he did, and anything respectable was slowly drying up. Whatever, it was something to unpack later, right now, Janet had to be dealt with.
"Yo, Janet." Allan said casually, reaching out to her. She slapped his hand away.
"Don't touch me!" She screamed, causing Allan to scan for any more military around.
"Keep quiet, dumbass. Also, open your eyes."
"Where are my glasses?!" Janet asked as tears streamed down her face.
"They broke." Allan replied casually, looking at Leon for a suggestion on what to do here. Janet tried letting out another panicked scream, but Allan put a hand over her mouth before anything could happen. Leon put the hook around Janet, lifting her up without much effort.
"Look, if we get to my place, we should be safe. Sound good?"
"Yeah, sounds great." Janet yelled. "Just get me inside!"
The way back to the apartment was thankfully uneventful. All the soliders from this morning were gone, minus a few patrolling that Leon could easily slip by thanks to his knowledge of the streets and narrow passages. Once they got in, Leon carefully set Janet down on the couch. Janet still refused to open her eyes until a pair of sunglasses was given to her. All of her swagger was gone, and in it's place was a girl snivelling to be saved. Leon was able to find on of Jay's old pairs and give them to her. She crouched behind the couch before emerging with them back on. After a few seconds of adjusting them, she looked around the room.
"Wow, you live in a dump." She said casually, her swagger slowly returning to her.
"I've noticed." Leon sighed.
"But I can stay a few hours, right? I'll…make it worth your while."
"Yeah, why not?" Leon shrugged. Best case scenario, Janet can back him up in a crucial moment later on. Worst case, he can throw her at the soldiers and make a run for it.
"Kay, you watch Leon's apartment." Allan said, checking everything in his bag was still where it was meant to be. "The two of us are gonna see what's at the centre of all this."
"When did I say I was helping with that?" Leon asked.
"You said you would!" Allan yelled back. He clearly looked hurt at Leon's confusion in why he should help.
"I said I'd help you survive the games." Leon replied. "When I said that, I assumed you wouldn't be running into them like a suicidal moron."
"I know what's up, Leon! I have been tracking the feds activity for years! I have every piece of information I could possibly need! So I'm going! You backing me up?"
"No."
"Fine!"
Allan ran out of the apartment. A part of Leon wanted to go with him, on the off chance he was right. But he probably wasn't. Instead, he turned to face Janet.
"If you have money for snacks, I can run to the store."
