Chapter 38 - a day in the life of a devil

Kuisha stood in front of the huge black door that replaced the entrance to their basement, in her training outfit—which, to be honest, was nothing more than a sports bra, yoga pants, and sneakers…

It had been five days since this door appeared here, and she was still not used to it—not for anything other than the fact that the design left much to be desired— It felt like it was designed by an emo teenager in his dark lord phase…

She couldn't find any other justification for the dark-looking forest decorating said door. She could have ignored that if she tried hard enough, but the huge dark green snake that seemed to be coming out of the door made it hard to do so, especially when it had the initials H.P. inscribed between its jaws…

She really should have been here when Harry created this chamber, but unfortunately, she and most of the peerage were out doing contracts that day…

She pushed the door, fighting the urge to roll her eyes when she heard it hiss like a snake as it opened, and came face to face with Sairaorg, who was struggling to do push-ups in the middle of the chamber under who-knows-how-many times the gravity…

She rolled her eyes at the sight and went in, only to feel the full force of twice the gravity pressing against her. Taking in a deep breath, she started stretching and getting ready for training…

Sairaorg was clearly in his own world, and she didn't want to disturb him, so she started doing her own thing…

She needed to finish today's training early so that she could go and deliver the milk supplies to Harry. She still couldn't believe he got her king to agree to supply him with 30 bottles of devil breast milk every three days—and as many advance alchemy books and herbs as possible— in return he would research and create a potion that speeds up his training…

She really should have been there that day to call him on his bullshit, but there was no such thing as 'should have been' in life, and she couldn't really renege on a deal her king made. So she'd just have to believe in her king more, no matter how skeptical she was about the feasibility of such potions existing—let alone working on a devil…

Kuisha knew her king wasn't foolish enough to accept such a deal if he thought he was being scammed. He might appear as a slightly brash, muscle-brained battle maniac, but he was not—oh, don't get her wrong; he was a battle maniac, alright, but he was also an extremely smart and calm person most of the time. He just liked to keep a front here in the human world for his own amusement…

'*Hufff*'

She slowly exhaled as she started running on the treadmill. She still couldn't figure out how Harry had managed to build the gravity chamber, let alone how he made the gym equipment endure the extreme gravity without breaking…

She had tried scanning it, of course, but the feedback she got was a massive headache with a message that said, *Nice try*—she added that to the list of things she didn't like about Harry…

Oh, she knew that her dislike stemmed from their poor first impression, but she couldn't really find anything to like about the guy, especially when he had an ego the size of the Underworld—okay, she might be a bit biased here, but she just couldn't help it…

True, the guy was a genius—a prodigy on par with Maou Beelzebub, if Sai's instincts were to be believed—but that didn't make dealing with him any less stressful. She had done so much research on sages in the last few days just to see what it was that made him so arrogant—she shouldn't have, because now she knew…

You see, sages are those who have mastered controlling and using the natural energy of the world. What did that mean exactly? She couldn't find out just yet, but she knew that not everyone who mastered the use of natural energy was a sage…

As it turned out, there were some requirements to becoming a sage, among them was the ability to purge and purify the malice and corruption that plagues nature. It would have been fine if that was it, but no—Sai believed that Harry was born a sage, and that meant something entirely different because that would mean Harry was pretty much a mortal god of nature…

It meant he had a direct connection to Gaia, the Primordial of Nature, being considered her son. And no matter how irrelevant these primordials had become in recent years—after the non-interference agreement they made more than a millennium ago—that didn't make them any less dangerous, as evidenced by how no one had found him for more than a decade…

Shaking her head slightly, she stepped down as the treadmill stopped and sat down to rest a little…

"Oh, hey Kuisha, when did you get here?" She heard Sairaorg's voice coming from behind her, so she turned around and saw him lying on his back, in the same spot he had been earlier with his head turned to the right, looking directly at her…

"I arrived fifteen minutes ago. You were too focused on your training, so you didn't notice," she answered, looking at her rest watch just to make sure she got the time right…

"Ah, hehehe sorry about that... So, how do you like our new training ground? Isn't it great? My training is so much more efficient now," Sai said, giving her his signature silly smile—she liked that smile…

"Yeah, it's good," she managed to reply after she snapped back from her fantasy.

She loved her king; that much was obvious to everyone in their peerage aside from Sai… Not that she minded him being a dense idiot; it just meant she'd have to try harder to get him to notice her…

"Yeah, I've been training under five times the gravity for days now, it reminds me of the first time I started training back when I was a kid every time I do it. It really is great. It's a shame Harry didn't agree to come and train with us though …" Her king smiled as he turned his head and stared at the ceiling. She didn't know why he was so insistent on being friends with the guy; he wasn't usually like this…

"Hey, Sairaorg, why are you so insistent on befriending him? Sure, he might be a genius and a sage, but that doesn't really answer why you are going out of your way to make friends with him—even going as far as lying to Maou Leviathan when she called to inquire if we knew anything about his whereabouts." She decided to ask him now that there were only the two of them. She wanted to know his reason for all of this.

"Ah, it's not that complicated, really. I just like him. I can tell he's going to be a powerful person in the future," he answered, and she hated how much sense that made to her, knowing his personality—but she had been by his side long enough to know that he was not telling her everything, and that was okay.

"Hmmm, okay then," she hummed in reply as she stood up and went to the pull-down machine, sat down to adjust the weight, and ignored Sai, who was still looking at the ceiling, seemingly lost in thought…

She only had about two hours left before she had to start getting ready for her trip to the Underworld so she could get the milk and books Harry needed.
