Chapter 9 - A beginning

"I'm sorry, I'm so so soryy."

You know, I have had many dreams. One where my eyes were plucked out of my head as I was tortured… I couldn't do anything but scream.

Do you know how it felt to be crushed? Imagine begging someone not to kill you? Or don't do this, please. It was countless. I have gone through an endless number of these.

Sometimes, it would be simply like that. I don't know, my head hurts when I think of it.

These creepy whispers, in a place I couldn't see. It would be so subtle you wouldn't hear.

"Do this. Run! Don't look! Who is this? What are you!?" Those were the ones I could hear. Most of the time, it's gibberish.

Light flashed, space collapsed… Every single time I entered those spaces... I want to forget. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

"Could you really live like that?" He said to the person beside him. Now a corpse. "Ah, who are y— Grasp!!"

He awoke once more, but he just stood there, looking at the sky. As if some sort of force could help him. "I wa"— John! John! John!" A man called him, asking if he was ok.

'Huh? John? Who's John?' looked down, his hands were white. Different from his coppered skin. His hands were more muscular, too. He grasped his face, inspecting it. His face was hard. It felt broad as a stone. More importantly, his hair was shorter. It wasn't in his face, nor did it touch his ears. It rested on the top.

Seeing Azzy's strange act, the man called for help. "Yo! John isn't good! Take him to the pipe to cool off!"

At the pipe, John stood over a drum of water. It reflected him.

He was now a blond man with eyes.

"Bro, you ok? You looked a bit out of it." The man who brought him to the pipe spoke as if they were friends.

"Yeah, I know it has been rough for you, but you can't be spacing out like that."

"Huh?"

"What do you mean 'huh'?"

The closer he looked, the more he realized. The man was wearing military clothes. A green shirt with baggy camo pants tucked into his boots.

"Who are you?" Azzy asked.

The man stopped before delivering a punch right to his face.

Shocked, Azzy looked at him, appalled. His face throbbed with pain.

" bitch! I told you not to go out with that girl, now look at you! Asking dumbass questions! Who are you? What!?"

"Huh?"

"I swear to god! If you say 'Huh?' one more time, I'm kicking the shit out of you."

"What?"

"That's it!"

Azzy and the man he now knows as Jason were friends who joined the military together, and for a few months, he and the others were training for a mission that was to take place in 2 years.

Besides the sergeant asking if I was ok, nothing happened. After a while, we were released from training. Nothing seemed weird after the lights went out.

"Yo, John?" Jason whispered— "You up?"

"Yeah, I'm up. What is it?"

"Let's go."

Curious, I followed. He led me to a field at the back of the base.

"Ok, let's go," he proclaimed. Taking up a fighting stand. "You go first."

I wasn't sure, but I think we were doing combat training. "Ok!"

I dash forward, throwing a fury of blows. It was the little combat I knew from my eskrima classes. But for some reason, nothing hit him. He then grabbed my shoulders before throwing me over his back. I was on the ground facing the night sky.

"Bro, are you slower?" he spoke, holding his chin. "Are you slacking off?"

I thought for a sec, this wasn't my body in the first place. Along with the fact that I was trapped, I wasn't training at all.

"Yeah, I hadn't trained in a while."

"Dude, we're basically going on a dead mission in 8 months. We need to be strong."

So, why did this guy and Jason join this mission? Was it because of money? "Yeah, yeah, I know." I got up again,

And went into a defensive stand— " Come, let's go again."

"Yeah! That's the spirit!" he said as we continued. I used a combination of both kicks and punches. A kick to his knee just for him to catch it, then kick and sweep my leg. Making me fall. It repeated after that. I would punch or kick just to be counter. I was the same speed and strength, maybe even stronger. But I couldn't beat him, even after getting beaten throughout the night, to the point that the sun rose. I couldn't help but smile. It was fun… I–I was having fun.

"You're weird, you know? Even since the day I met you, you always were."

Thinking back to my past, I was called that. "Yeah, I've been told."

"Ewwww, dude," Jason said, backing up. "Quite the smiling, it's creepy."

"Come on, let me enjoy this." I chuckled, I just couldn't help myself. "Isn't this fun?!"

He pondered the statement "Fun?" but to him he couldn't help but laugh. Both Azzy, now John, and Jason. It was like they had been hit with a laughing spell.

"WHO'S THERE!!" A man in the distance asked. Scaring the two.

"Shit! John, we've got to go!" shouted while whispering.

"Yeah, I know! So let's hurry!"

"Stop running!!"

They took off running, jumping and dodging each obstacle. "Yo, Jason?! How long do you think it is before we get

"Caught?!"-_-

"You think I'm planning to get caught??!"0_0

"No, but you never know?"QoQ

"That's so you, so anti-optimistic. Let's go before they realize we're missing.">^<

"Aye aye, captain" >.<
