Chapter 14 - The Tower Looms

Oscorp Tower loomed over New York's underdistrict, a steel monolith piercing the neon-lit sky of Earth-731 in 2030. Its mirrored facade reflected the city's chaos—bounty screens flashing Peter Parker, now Mad Spider, and Gwen Stacy as public enemies. Peter perched on a rusted billboard, his blood-red costume tattered but defiant, his spider-powers—strength, agility, regeneration—pushed to their limits. The pain from Oscorp's electroshock torture burned, a relentless pulse fueling his Joker-like madness. He laughed, a sharp, unhinged sound, as he eyed the tower. "Big shiny cage," he quipped, twirling a stolen EMP. "Time to break it open, Gwenny." Gwen, her stolen tablet glowing, stood beside Razor and Cipher, her blue eyes fierce. "This is our last shot," she said, her voice steady despite the stakes. "We broadcast their secrets, or we're done."

Flashback: At 14, Peter and Gwen hid in a school janitor's closet, laughing after dodging a bully. "You're my hero," she teased, her hand brushing his. Peter's heart raced, unaware that Oscorp would soon steal those moments.

The Neon Shadows, now a tight-knit resistance, rallied for the final assault. Cipher's hackers had rigged the city's holo-screens for a broadcast to expose Oscorp's neural implant army. Peter trained the group, his spider-senses sharpening their moves, his Deadpool-like humor a spark in the gloom. "Hit like you mean it, love like you don't!" he grinned, winking at Gwen. But his pain flared mid-drill, dropping him. Gwen's ritual began, her touch soothing his burning nerves, their bond now a public act that shocked the Shadows. "They're obsessed," Razor muttered to Cipher, uneasy. Gwen overheard, her jaw tight. "It's what keeps him human."

The plan was audacious: infiltrate Oscorp Tower, hack its main server, and broadcast the implant schematics. Gwen's tablet held the vault's data, enough to spark a rebellion. But Peter's madness worried her—his violence had grown, his laughter colder. Flashback: At 20, Gwen watched Peter's torture, his screams turning to laughter as madness took root. She'd vowed to save him, even if it meant losing herself. Now, she hacked a Blackweb signal, confirming Norman's presence in the tower. "He's waiting," she warned. Peter's grin was sharp. "Good. I owe him a punchline."

They struck at midnight, the Neon Shadows hacking city broadcasts to sow chaos—screens flashing Oscorp's crimes, crowds stirring below. Mad Spider led the charge, swinging through the tower's defenses, webbing turrets and drones. "Bad tech, worse aim!" he taunted, his regeneration healing laser burns. Gwen and Cipher infiltrated the server room, their hack racing against Blackweb's AI. Razor and the Shadows fought operatives, their EMPs frying drones. But Peter's violence surged—he snapped an operative's neck, his laughter chilling. Gwen's voice cut through: "Peter, we need you!" He paused, her love a tether, but the madness whispered louder.

The broadcast went live, the city erupting as citizens saw Oscorp's plans. But Blackweb's response was swift—drones and operatives flooded the tower, their shock-batons glowing. Peter's pain flared, the voltage a cruel echo of the lab. He fought on, protecting Gwen, his spider-senses dodging strikes. Cipher took a hit, her arm burned, but Gwen's hack held. "We're almost there!" she shouted, her fingers a blur.

Cliffhanger: Mad Spider swings Gwen through the tower, Blackweb surrounding them. "They're scared," he laughs, his madness teetering, as a new alert flashes: Norman's trap awaits above.
