Chapter 6 - 6

Elena's POV

My heart seized in my chest as I saw him through the CCTV. Mateo and I were in the control room trying to fix an issue and had hired a technician who was busy in the room, when the CCTV caught Kendall downstairs.

Mateo sent a signal to me with his calm look, but I couldn't help myself.

"It's not worth it--"

Before he could finish what he had to say, I cut him off and stormed off into my office. The desk phone rang as soon my feet stepped into the office, and Mary's voice boomed on the other end as I answered it. I didn't wait before I ordered.

"Don't let him in. If you do, you're fired Mary." My voice was calm yet threatening. Mary definitely loved her job and wouldn't do otherwise.

"Y-yes sir...I mean, ma." She faltered.

I was about to hang up when his voice raged out, shouting like a mad man. "Hey Elena! So you've seen me coming in the CCTV huh? Come down here right now! You thief!"

Mateo sighed."Ignore him, Elena."

"Ignore him!?" I flared up. At this point, I'd already hung up because his noise did not stop and I could hear Mary pleading with him not to cause a scene.

"He's a lunatic!" I continued."He's going to send everyone away with his madness. I have to send him away, even if I'll have to use the security guards."

"Okay." I like how he always seem calm and doesn't like arguing with me. "Let's go together then."

I heaved in,"fine." Then began to make my way down. Seeing him made my heart to skip a bit. I was angry, I was supposed to be. But for a split second--and if felt like eternity...I didn't want to stop the day dreaming--I was lost in his fine physique.

Kendall was tall, very handsome and well built. But there was something else about him that made me instantly crave for his touch. I shook my head and was suddenly glad Mateo was with me. But what surprised me again was how Kendall glared at me, like his eyes was all over me he couldn't help himself!

Seeing Mateo, I observed his brows arch up in confusion and anger, but he couldn't even say anything yet because the presence of someone else shocked him.

"Elena dear," Joshua said. Even I was shocked because I hadn't really been expecting him too. "I've made reservations already. We don't want to be late."

I was about to ask him about what reservations when Kendall jumped up to speak.

"What? Reservations? What reservations?"

Joshua looked Kendall up and down, then back at me. "Hello, is this friend of yours joining us too?" Joshua asked, eying me from head to toe.

"What, no no. He's my ex husband. The one I told you about." I said.

"Our divorce isn't even finalized! What is wrong with you Elena!" Kendall snapped.

"You're making noise. This is a cooperate place. Manage your behavior." Mateo said. He had been calm that Kendall's behavior just irked him now.

"Yes." Joshua turned, facing Kendall and said in a strict tone. "He's right. Watch your tone with Elena."

I hadn't asked for two bodyguards but there was no denting that I hadn't needed them. "You should just leave now, Kendall." I said, hoping this would just die down. However, the universe had other plans.

"I came here for a reason anyway. That diamond ear ring, you stole it. Take it off right now."

I couldn't believe my eyes. Embarrassment made my cheeks to fluster because I was actually wearing that necklace.

"Um..." I froze, no. I needed to be confident. "What nonsense are you talking about, Kendall?"

His eyes lit up, but in anger. "You're wearing it right now. That diamond earring, give it back. You stole it!"

"Stole it? Your wedding anniversary gift, you dare accuse her of stealing it?" Mateo stepped forward.

"Y--yes." Kendall flinched. He must have realized how stupid he sounded. "It's mine. I'd rather throw it away, or sell it even! It costed almost a million dollars for just a stupid silly pair of ear rings. You don't deserve that at all."

This made me laugh, Mateo and Kendall along with joshau staring at me wondering what was funny. "You buy cufflinks of ten million, and you claim these pair of earrings are too expensive for me? For our anniversary gift?"

"What did you get me, huh? You're so poor I'm always the one taking care of you, your grandpa!" Kendall said.

I felt disheartened. When will he change...could he ever change with the way he treated me like I was just below trash!

"Take them off," instantly, Joshua commanded.

"That's true." Mateo sided. "Whatever he gives you is beneath you, he's not even worthy of handing over anything to you. Give it back to him."

I was forced to take it off, but as I was about to hand it over to him, Joshua snatched it from my hand and threw it to the floor. A soft gasp escaped my lips, I hadn't been expecting that.

"Here," Joshua brought out his phone and began to scroll through a page. "My aunt owns Rooks empire. Oh look, this limited edition earrings cost 16 million. And I've just ordered it for you."

My eyes widened in shock. He smiled, thinking he had impressed me. Before I could say anything again, he went on. "And don't worry about taking care of her again. She's in safe hands now, with her grandpa as well."

"Let's go," he added, clinging on to my hand. They looked small in his. I wanted to protest but the look on Kendall face was too sweet for me to ignore.

Mateo was saying something but I kept walking with Joshua out. "I'll call you," was what I could manage to say before we had walked far from their sight. I didn't like that I left Kendall all alone with Mateo, but I needed to speak to Joshua. And fast.

Once outside, he led me towards his car. I entered, not wanting to see Kendall till he would disappear from the building. Plus, in his car was privacy enough.

"Alright, hit the brakes." He ordered the driver but that was when I stopped him.

"We need to talk, Joshua." My voice was firm."I didn't like the way you handled situations then. It kinda hurt that you threw away my anniversary gift like that. Besides, I didn't ask that you ordered another one, worth that much millions! I have diamond earrings, I love jewelries."

As much as I made my voice soft, something strange happened. He was frowning and the frown was so stern it sent chill down my spine. "Are you okay? I'm sorry if I've upset you in any way."

"He's useless. I'm better. I will be better to you. You need to forget about him."

"I'm not saying that I--"

"--and if there's anything I love the most, it's respect. Even your grandpa respects me so much than he's supposed to." He said in such a chilly way.

"Excuse me. I need to get back to work." I quickly tried to create an escape route but suddenly, he locked all the doors.

"No. We're going somewhere, I said so earlier before, didn't I??"

My chest was beating so fast now. "Wait...what--" before I could say anything, the quick start of the vehicle shut me up.
