Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Awakening Observation Haki! Meeting Kurama!

Kagura's Mind's Eye.

A perception-based ninjutsu of extraordinary power.

When activated, Kagura's Mind's Eye allows the user to sense chakra fluctuations across vast distances—tens of kilometers, in some cases. If the chakra signature is familiar, one can pinpoint the target's location, movement, numbers, and even specific traits.

Yet in the original story, Uzumaki Naruto never awakened this particular ability.

As the Jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails, however, he eventually learned to sense negative emotions—a unique sensory gift from Kurama.

But that power came only after he gained access to Kurama's chakra.

At this moment...

Naruto pondered a question: Is it possible to perceive without using chakra? Just through pure mental power?

Then it struck him.

A concept from another world entirely—from the hot-blooded world of One Piece:

Observation Haki.

In that world, every person is born with the potential to awaken Haki, but few ever do. Observation Haki, once awakened, grants heightened senses—allowing one to perceive unseen enemies, their numbers, their strength… even their emotions.

At its pinnacle, Observation Haki can glimpse moments into the future.

Naruto closed his eyes and reflected deeply on the principles behind that power.

Suddenly—

He had an epiphany.

You've awakened Observation Haki!

Observation Haki: Allows you to sense the presence, strength, and position of others without relying on your eyes.

In an instant, Naruto became acutely aware—four presences were hiding in the surroundings, stationed in four directions.

"The Anbu…" he thought.

It was the first time he could so clearly sense the precise locations of those monitoring him. Before, he could only vaguely sense them thanks to his growing mental strength. Now, with Observation Haki, he could pinpoint them exactly.

He pushed further—expanding the range of his awareness.

He could sense civilians walking nearby, stray cats lounging in alleyways, and even birds perched on distant rooftops.

The sensation was incredible.

After experimenting a little longer, he deactivated the Haki and took a deep breath.

Now that he had this power, if he kept Observation Haki active, even that old monkey—the Third Hokage—would have a hard time catching him off guard.

Excellent.

Naruto had taken another step forward.

The next goal was clear:

Maintain Observation Haki constantly—train it until he could see a few seconds into the future.

But for now…

Something even more important awaited.

Since his first brief encounter with Kurama, some time had passed. During that time, Naruto had trained relentlessly—sharpening his mental strength and improving his physical fitness.

Now, he believed he was ready.

It was time to face the Nine-Tails properly.

Naruto sat down, closed his eyes again, and began meditating—activating his chakra refining technique. With his enhanced mental power, he quickly found the inner space where Kurama was sealed.

Following the path inward...

His consciousness entered the familiar, oppressive world.

When he opened his eyes again, he wasn't in his apartment.

He stood in the dimly lit, water-logged sewer-like mindscape.

Water rippled under his feet as he stepped forward. Channeling chakra to his soles, he walked across the surface with ease.

After a few steps, he stopped.

There it was.

Looming behind towering iron bars—a monstrous presence, half-shrouded in shadow.

A massive, scarlet-furred beast radiating raw power, even in sleep.

The Nine-Tailed Fox.

Seeing Kurama in person for the first time, Naruto felt thankful he had chosen to grow stronger before this moment.

Otherwise, the beast might've scared him half to death with just a snort.

He stared at the slumbering form.

And calmly spoke:

"Kurama... I'm here."

The words echoed softly in the sealed space.

Moments passed.

Then a low growl reverberated through the darkness.

Kurama stirred.

"Who's there!?"

The fox's vertical pupils snapped open, glowing with menacing light. It glanced around, searching for the source of the voice.

Outside the cage, Naruto watched Kurama's confusion with a blank stare.

Then he called out again—

"Hey, down here, Kurama."

Kurama blinked, then lowered his gaze.

Finally, he noticed the tiny figure standing below—Naruto, no bigger than a fingernail in comparison.

"Huh?" The fox's deep voice rumbled with surprise. "You again? How did you get in here on your own?"

Before Naruto could answer, Kurama narrowed his eyes.

It sensed something strange.

Naruto's spiritual pressure... it was entirely different from before.

Stronger.

Deeper.

Sharper.

The boy's mental strength had skyrocketed—hundreds of times greater than what Kurama remembered. He wasn't the same weakling who came here before.

Kurama's expression shifted.

Kurama was baffled.

It hadn't been that long since their last meeting…

But this brat's mental strength—

How did it grow so much, so fast?

Naruto responded casually to the confused Tailed Beast:

"I wanted to come in, so I came in."

Kurama blinked. That answer made no sense. He didn't get it—and frankly, he decided not to press the issue. What really bothered him was…

How the hell did this kid know the name 'Kurama'?

The Nine-Tails narrowed its eyes.

Then, with a low growl, it leaned forward, unleashing the terrifying aura befitting the most dangerous of the tailed beasts.

It bared its teeth. Its crimson fur bristled.

With a guttural snarl, it demanded:

"Brat—where did you hear that name? Kurama!?"

As the name echoed through the chamber, the fox slammed a claw into the bars of the cage.

Boom!

The whole chamber shook violently, water rippling out beneath Naruto's feet like a tsunami.

And yet—

Outside the cage, Naruto didn't even flinch.

In fact… he pinched his nose in mock disgust.

"Ugh. All bark and no bite," he muttered.

Then he looked up at the snarling fox and calmly said:

"I know a lot more than just your name, Kurama."

That made Kurama pause.

This brat…

He wasn't just strong enough now to withstand the crushing pressure of a tailed beast—he was calm. Mocking him, even.

If it were before, Kurama thought, this little punk would've been flattened just by my killing intent.

But now?

Now he stood there like it was nothing.

Kurama stared him down, waiting for a real answer.

But Naruto didn't offer one.

He just stood there, arms crossed, like he had all the time in the world.

The silence stretched.

Kurama's eye twitched.

"BRAT!!" the Nine-Tails suddenly roared.

"You don't know anything! Nothing at all!"

He cursed and shouted, his rage pouring out in a storm of snarls and guttural threats.

And Naruto?

Naruto just nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, yeah. Totally clueless," he said with a grin.

Kurama froze.

Was he… being mocked?

Again?

This kid—he didn't play by the rules at all!

Wasn't he supposed to cower in fear? Blurt everything out the moment Kurama got serious?

Instead, here he was—smirking, acting like the whole thing was a joke.

Kurama was utterly confused.

The tsundere Nine-Tails… absolutely losing it.
