Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Devil’s Bargain

The scream came again—sharper this time, laced with terror.

Damon didn't hesitate. He moved like smoke through the rusted warehouse doors, and I followed close behind, pulse hammering in my ears.

Inside, the air was thick with dust and something else—something wrong. Like the space itself resisted being occupied.

A man crouched in the far corner, trembling, arms wrapped around himself as if trying to hold his own body together. His skin was pale, eyes sunken, lips cracked and bleeding.

He looked broken.

Damon stepped forward, calm and composed as always. "You broke the contract."

The man let out a strangled sob. "I had no choice. It was killing me."

Damon tilted his head slightly. "Then you should have honored your end before running."

I swallowed hard, watching the exchange unfold. There was no anger in Damon's voice—just quiet finality.

"What happens now?" I asked, keeping my tone even.

Damon glanced at me. "That depends on you."

I frowned. "What do you mean?"

"You're part of this now," he said simply. "And every contract-breaker must face judgment. You can watch… or you can decide their fate."

My stomach twisted.

I looked at the man again. He was terrified. But more than that—he was human.

And I wasn't sure if I was anymore.
