Chapter 1 - Meeting

Magic, a vital part of a human body, is a unique power that flows around their body similar to blood. But unlike blood, magic can be used like a tool, it can turn into anything the owner desires, whether to use it for everyday needs or for violence.

But despite its omnipotent characteristics, magic is not perfect, it has a limit, this is what we call a mana, the more mana you have the more time you can use your magic, but when you run out of mana, magic can't be used anymore and you will fallen ill like a certain someone.

Her name is Agatha, a 30-year-old woman who's living in a four-story apartment along with her 5-year-old daughter named Anna.

Right now she's out of mana, and the symptoms started appear, first, she'll feel very weak, as if she lost the ability to move, after that, a faint heat will ignite inside her who's going to slowly build up into this intense heat as if she was thrown into a boiling soup, and then her heart will stop.

losing mana is like losing oxygen, it just that you got to suffer more.

And just like oxygen the human body relies magic too, to the point the heart can't run for a long time without it, like I said, magic is a vital part of a human body.

But fortunately for Agatha, the number of people who died from magic overuse is pretty low. The people who died from this just happened to be alone when they lost their magic, meaning no one was around to help and take them to the nearest hospital. And it's not that hard to cure, the doctors just need to transfer their magic to them like a blood transfusions.

But magic transfer is done by professionals, and Anna, Agatha's daughter who's beside her this whole time, is not a professional at all, she's just a 5-year-old girl who happens to be pretty mature for her age.

When Anna finds out that her mother has fallen ill, she first lays her down on their bed and removes the blankets they've used to give her more air since she's starting to burn up.

She then took a towel, headed to their bathroom, and washed it with that cold water coming off that early morning. She gave that towel a little twist, just to remove some water inside the towel, and put it on Agatha's head. This is a normal procedure to aid people who used their magic too much before heading to the hospital for the magic transfer.

Anna grabbed her mother's phone and put in the hospital's number. Magic overuse isn't really an emergency despite its vicious symptoms, it's mainly because it takes a day before the heart stops working. You can tell it just by checking that person's temperature. And Agatha here is still in a state of burning up.

"There's still a lot of time." she mutters to herself as she types that number with her little fingers, looking up and down, glancing at the number written on a paper.

*knock* *knock* *knock* *knock*

Someone's at the door, and Anna hasn't called the hospital yet. This must be a neighbor or someone her mother knows.

But Anna ignored them, she keeps typing that number without any attention to what's happening around her. The knocking gets louder and more aggressive than before, and yet she still keeps typing, but she's so damn slow.

She keeps missing the numbers on the keypad even though the size of the numbers is big enough for her little fingers to press. And when she makes a typo, she'll close the app and open it again to reset the numbers as if she doesn't know where the backspace key is. No, she doesn't know that key exists at all.

So, the door got kicked hard, making it fly to the wall just in front of it. When Anna finally notices it, a bunch of men in formal black suits force themselves in, forming a line in front of Anna who's in a living room.

There are about five of them, all looking the same, from the bald cut hair to the black sunglasses they all wear. Even their faces look similar to each other. But there's one who stands out. It's the man from the back. The sixth person who entered the house.

His hair is jet black like Anna's, and unlike the others, he's wearing a gray suit. He's a very handsome man and looks very rich. However, this man is odd.

His appearance makes him look powerful, and yet his posture is laid-back. And with a closer look he's a little skinny, he also doesn't have any muscle and despite his handsomeness his eyes looks like a dead fish.

He walks towards Anna with a hump on his back, who's in a state of shock right now. Her body is in a state of stasis, not moving a single inch at all. Her eyes widen up, and her mouth is fully open. She looks like someone who saw a ghost right now.

The man crouched down in front of Anna, he leaned his head towards her, and with a monotone voice, he asked her about her mother.

"Where's your mom?" he said.

Anna came back to her senses, put down the phone she was holding the entire time, and came face to face with the man. She clenches her fists as she stares at him with her blazing eyes. Feeling a misunderstanding ensued, the man immediately spoke out, but he was interrupted by Anna's instantaneous bow.

"I'm sorry! We can't give you money right now; my mother has fallen ill, and I need that money to cure her!" she yelled at the man with dead fish eyes as she bows down like he is her king.

I forgot to tell you, but the magic transfer cost is really expensive. It's because of how hard it is to pull off. It can take a man 10 years of practice just to master the basics, and due to its cost, death isn't really people's main concern when someone overused. It's one of the main reason why magic overused is rare this days.

"What?! I'm not here for money, I'm just asking about your mother." he said hoping that it will clear the misunderstanding.

"Also, what do you mean she fallen ill?"

"She use her magic too much, she's on the bedroom right now."

The laid-back man stood up and went to see her immediately. His moves are quick and sharp. That lazy and slow man from earlier is gone. Right now he looks like Agatha's husband. He directs his bodyguards to ready the car, and went to assist Agatha to stand up and head to the car.
