Chapter 50 - Prometheus Initiative, Part 2

"I present to you the Prometheus Plan!" Alan, supported by numerous analysts, had created a far more detailed plan that ensured humanity a future—however uncertain it might be.

That was the Prometheus Plan, originally conceived by Alan. Based on the idea that humanity could neither win nor hold out against the infected, they would have to dedicate the first five years to investing all their efforts into building a solid base where humanity could endure.

"From the moment the first city fell to the infected, when the army split between those who saw the need to exterminate the weakest, we—the warriors—created this plan to secure our future."

Captains began receiving freshly printed files, and thanks to this, Alan ensured that even if he wasn't fully understood, they would be able to answer their subordinates' questions.

"What we'll do from now on is move civilians—priority one being scientists, doctors, architects, electricians, among many others." Alan pointed to the zone where they would build the human stronghold.

The place where everyone would strive to ensure they weren't slaughtered.

"All the bases we control will be forced to go through this classification filter. Of course, children will be an exception." Alan coldly listed those considered indispensable for the construction of the stronghold.

As for people like him, they would not return to the dam empty-handed.

"I'll personally be at the front lines, one of the most difficult bases to defend. Your families will be safe at the most protected bases, so I want all of you to fight with your hearts on your sleeves."

"Hoorah!"

"Let's go! All teams have missions to carry out immediately!"

As Alan finished his speech, he caught sight of a familiar face among the soldiers who were leaving, but he said nothing. It wasn't the right time to speak—not yet.

Jack approached Alan and asked, "Are you sure you want to go to the front?"

"You want me to send all those good soldiers on dangerous missions while I stay behind doing nothing? You know me, Jack. I'm not going to do that," Alan said in a cold voice—his former self slowly consuming him.

"Then I can only wish you good luck, my friend. I'll be following your orders from central command," Jack said, watching Alan walk away.

Far from everyone else, Alan looked at Claire and asked while preparing his gear, "Do you know anything about your brother?"

"Not yet... I think he's with FEDRA now…" Claire replied in a rather sad tone.

"That's unfortunate, but we'll find him—I promise you."
