Chapter 1 - 1-New Life

Bexley's POV:

Sometimes I had wondered if my life was supposed to be mundane and filled with the bare minimum. Sure, I had a good life, friends and family, but something was missing. Something that made my heart race and my soul soar. Eventually, I hoped, that it would be better. I started out my day like every other day. Wakeup, shower, dress myself, and coffee. Yes, coffee was the conductor of my day. After pouring the creamer in my cup, I felt invigorated. Like I could take on the world and climb the highest mountain, although I was afraid of heights.. okay maybe not afraid of heights itself, just afraid of the fall. I slipped my current read in my bag as I headed out. The last chapter left me wanting to read more.

As I was walking through the streets, I came across this unusual stall. Hmm that's strange I thought to myself as I had walked these streets for years and never have I seen this vendor. That didn't stop me from perusing though. I was drawn to a ring and necklace set, it being the most gorgeous emerald I had ever laid my eyes upon. I picked them up as the merchant watched me.

"It's one of my highly sought pieces," the merchant stole my attention.

"How much is it exactly?" I asked.

"I tell you what," the merchant stepped forward, "I'll sell it to you for three hundred."

That truly wasn't a bad price, and I probably should've been more aware that I was more than likely being scammed, but go ahead and call me a sucker; because I took the bait. I reached in my bag grabbing the money as I traded that for the jewelry. The smile I received from the merchant was ominous, which should have been my second clue. I took the jewelry as I felt exhilarated from my new purchase. I brushed it off as I was just that excited for a new ring. Especially, since it was an emerald one. I carried on with my walk to work as I had no other care in the world, my new ring adorning my finger.

"Why are you here Bexley?" My manager questioned, "You're not on the schedule."

I paused. "I'm not?"

"No, did Sarah not call you?"

I shook my head no. "I wasn't informed, but okay, I'll just go home."

I walked home. Atleast I could drown myself in my favorite literature. I unlocked my door, closing and locking it before sitting down on the couch, book in hand. Now where was I? I flipped to the page I left off on. The knight was in the middle of an intense battle. The kind that made your heart race and head spin. These were the moments I lived for in books. Each page drew me in more than the last. I started feeling drowsy as my eyes became heavy. This was new. Normally, I'd be too anxious about not finishing a book. Today, I just wanted to rest. I thought nothing of it, that maybe my body was just exhausted from working all week. The fight to stay engrossed in my story, was becoming one that I wouldn't win. Just one more chapter, I thought to myself. That was all I needed. Then, maybe, I could sleep peacefully.

I woke up as I stretched languidly. Once I rubbed my eyes, I took in my surroundings. A sharp gasp befell me. What the hell? This was not my home, or my couch. I was in a pile of hay as I looked around frantically. There was no way I just teleported. Surely I had sleep walked somewhere. That had to be it. I stood up as I walked over peeking out the barn door. I'm sure a strange auburn haired, green eyed girl would fit in somewhere. I heard hooves and the sound of galloping drawing closer. I took off, trying to find a hiding spot. I looked over seeing a ladder leading up. I decided to take a chance and hide, climbing that ladder like my life depended on it. Once I got up top, I scooted back in the shadows with my hand covering my mouth. With me not knowing any details of my current predicament, I wasn't going to take any chances.

Once I was in the shadows, I heard the voices of what I could only assume belonged to the men on horseback. I peeked over the ledge carefully and slowly to see how many there were. That's when I saw him, a man in his mid to late twenties. He was tall, looked fit under the armor and had a smile that I knew drives women crazy. His eyes were like the sky, or even a Robin's egg blue. Regardless, they were eyes gifted from heaven. His hair was shoulder length, and God was it the most luscious set of locks I've ever seen. Honestly, I could sit and listen to his voice without ever getting tired of it. He had that nice baritone going for him. The kind that was smooth like butter. He was made from heaven, simply put. Feeling like I needed to go back into the shadows, I scooted back quietly. The board protested against my stealthy attempt as it creaked. Shit shit shit. I held my breath hoping that I was just imagining the whole incident. That would have been nice, but that was far from the plan my deck of cards had for me.

The men below stopped talking suddenly as I heard a faint sound of metal clinking. Almost as if it could be a sword being unsheathed. My heart was racing now more than I could ever think possible. I had wished for a car, no better yet a train to take me out right then and there. Being stabbed was not what I envisioned would end my existence. Lions maybe, a shark possibly, hopefully not being seen as a threat and taken out by a blade that was probably my height. That would be an excessive way to take me out. They scattered below me as their voices carried, calling orders to one another occasionally saying "clear" and "the noise didn't come from here."

Time stood still as I heard Sir Ethereal approach the ladder. Was this going to be my end? A stranger to this world where I knew nothing about, and I mean nothing. Listening carefully over my beating heart, I assumed he decided to be hero, cause why wouldn't he, and investigate my temporary hiding spot. Not once did I ever think that the boards that held me up would give away to my hiding spot. There was no way out up here, I was what you would call a sitting duck. Maybe the gods above would have mercy and just make me have a coronary, a massive one, then atleast I could go on my own accord. I sat there with bated breath hoping against hope, that he would reconsider our dangerous game of hide and go seek...
