Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Diverging Paths — Marine and Pirate

Seventeen years old.

That's the age when life really decided to split our paths.

Dragon — my twin, my brother — chose to follow Dad's footsteps.

He joined the Marines.

"Protecting justice, serving the people," he said with that serious Marine look on his face.

I tried to feel proud for him.

I really did.

But inside, something burned.

Because I had my own dream — not justice, not Marines.

I wanted to be Pirate King.

From the moment I could walk and fight, I knew the sea was calling me.

Not to protect the government.

But to carve my own legend.

When Dad found out Dragon joined the Marines, he smiled.

Said he was proud.

When I told Dad I was running away to be a pirate…

he just shook his head.

"Foolish," he muttered.

That was the last time I saw him before I left.

I packed what little I had — a worn slingshot, a few pieces of dried meat, and my stubborn will.

No grand farewell. No tears.

Just me, stepping into the unknown.

I took a new name to hide my true identity — Diron.

No one could know I was Garp's son.

I knew if the Marines found out, they'd hunt me down faster than any Sea King.

Dragon didn't say much when I left.

He just looked at me, eyes cold but… maybe sad?

I didn't look back.

The sea air hit my face as I climbed aboard a small ship docked at a nearby port.

The salty wind whispered promises of adventure.

I wasn't a baby anymore.

I was Diron — pirate, dreamer, and soon-to-be legend.

My power still tied to the moon, I knew the full moon nights would give me the strength to survive whatever the Grand Line threw at me.

Dragon might wear the Marine uniform, chasing order and rules.

But me?

I'd chase freedom, chaos, and the Pirate King's throne.

The first step of my journey was clear.

Run away from my family's shadow.

Prove that the son of Monkey D. Garp could be more than just a Marine's kid.

I gripped the ship's railing tight.

"Let's go," I whispered.

The sea awaited.

And so did my destiny.
