Chapter 3 - Northern Continent

Hearing that, his eyes snapped wide open.

He felt an overwhelming sense of familiarity. His breaths quickened, he tried his best to hold on to the sudden sense of familiarity in hopes he may regain his memories.

A moment passed..

And then another.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, no matter how much he tried, he could not remember.

It couldn't be helped and just like that, he resigned. It was a hopeless situation, but despairing over it would be pointless. Luckily for him, there was someone who might help.

Giving out a resigned sigh, he eyed the room once more.

The room had gone silent.

he unclenched the fists he had unknowingly been clenching.

Lifting his chin, He spoke, and as he spoke, the pain rose from the bottom of his throat once more, however by now he had gotten used to it, and had an idea of how much he could speak before coughing out blood.

"Lady Gaia, For a moment, I felt as though I knew who those [Humanity] but I could not recall- " stopping while the pain is more bearable.

In just a second or two, the rising pain had subsided below, and he continued his question.

"I could not recall anything, and at the same time, I am confused, i woke up in this strange place, with no recollection of my identity-"

Uckkk.

The metallic tang of blood spread in his mouth once more.

Damn it, while the pain is more bearable than the first time, it still hurts a lot. How am I supposed to talk like this?, massaging his throat he waited for a reply.

A moment passed, then two.

Hm? Lady Gaia sure takes her time. Then a feminine voice resounded once more.

[ you are a rather unusual one, much different, from your predecessor… ]

"Predecessor?-"

However, before they could question, they are interrupted by the monotone voice.

[ Regardless, It is not strange that you do not know about the Long departed masters of this world. Information about them has long been lost, in the long span of time… ]

Hmm, so [ Humanity ] refers to the previous masters of this world? So they are akin to divine figures, but for some reason, that doesn't sound very accurate, and The voice also mentioned long departed masters.. Are they dead?

Instead of getting answers I am getting more questions. But I have a feeling.

"Lady Gaia, you say that the information is lost, but I feel that you know-"

[ … ]

[ The Moon Quite Distant Today…]

Eh? Moon? What does the moon have to do with this?

[ Information Regarding Humanity is Scarce, I cannot help you at the moment, It will take some time… ]

Sigh, is my luck that bad?, I only ended up with more questions, though this is still better than nothing.

"I appreciate Lady Gaia's, may I ask for the Lady's help in uncovering my identity?""

[ Identity? ]

The corner of his mouth twitched, he closed his eyes and bowed slightly.

"As the lady may recall, I mentioned my difficulty of recalling my identity–"

[ Oh… ]

Sweat trickled down the side of his head.

Don't tell me she has short term amnesia.

---

A long silence ensued.

He was too flustered to speak, unsure of how to proceed with the new revelation.

This has taken a rather unique turn.

'This being or whoever she is, is clearly amnesiac, to be honest, I was hoping that she would be able to help me with figuring out my identity and why I woke up in this strange place, but it seems I will have to figure it out myself.'

'Since she can't help, what do I do? Should I get out of this place, away from this place and look for answers elsewhere? But where do I go? I don't even know what dangers lie out there, outside dangers aside, I should approach this suspicious being with caution. Strangely I don't feel much alarm when facing this being, but that could be a trap to lower my guard, not only can't I see my surroundings, I am half naked and completely unarmed, if anything i am the most perfect prey'

Turning his head, He eyed the entrance of the room, The air inside the room was thick with a musty scent, it was almost nauseating bearing with the overwhelming scent. He observed the entrance and its surroundings.

'The frame of the doorway is very brittle, in fact it wouldn't be surprising if it collapsed with a single touch, and the floor is almost smooth with only a few cracks here and there, so there is less likely to be a trap from below.'

But that was the most he could discern, it was too dark, what he managed to see was only thanks to the dim light barely illuminating the room. But it was insufficient so he couldn't verify if there was a trap from above.

'Tch, this is risky but not really of concern right now, thankfully the being hasn't shown any hostility towards me, and seems willing to help. Let's see how much I can get out of her'

Wiping the trickle of sweat, he bowed his head slightly, showing what respect he could and asked.

"Lady Gaia, May I know where we are?-"

[...]

[ you are located in the northern hemisphere… ]

'That's it? You can't be serious? How is that supposed to help me!'

'Ugh, whatever sense of awe I had for her, I can feel is being utterly crumbled into sand'

"Haha.. Lady Gaia, knowing which part of the globe we are in is great and all, but-"

Cough cough cough

'Damn it, I forgot about my damned voice box!'

Cough cough…

After another fit of coughs, he raised his head again and continued.

" It would be more helpful if you could be more specific."

[ hmm… you are correct… to be exact, you are located in the central region of the northern continent, just slightly west of the domain of Central Authority. ]

_!!

'Domain of the central authority?! That means this place is near a population! That's good, I needed that, now i have a direction i can go to'

Bowing deeply.

"Thank you for enlightening me, lady Gaia".

[ What do you plan to do? ]

Hm?

'Now that I think about it?, if i leave and go to the closest population, there wouldn't be much I could do, searching for my identity is bound to take a while, or if i get lucky i might actually be a person from the closest place to here, who just lost his memories, i might even have a family!'

"I plan to go to the closest population, and try to uncover my identity.-"

[ once you leave, I highly advise you to keep a low profile. ]

Huh? Why all of a sudden?, for some reason, an unknown feeling starts to well up in my stomach.

"May I ask why?", he asked, while being apprehensive.

[ you will understand once you leave.. ]
