Chapter 194 - Chapter 194: Plug and Play

He sealed his own eye into a sealing scroll.

The Mangekyō spun rapidly, reverting into a three-tomoe Sharingan. Just like Kakashi, without the bloodline of the Uchiha clan, he couldn't deactivate the Sharingan to conserve chakra. Still, he had far more chakra than Kakashi, so the constant drain wasn't much of a problem.

"This feeling... No wonder Kakashi covers his eye with his forehead protector."

Through the Sharingan, the world slowed down. He could see chakra fluctuations in the distance. If it was just one eye, it might not be too bad, but the contrast between his normal right eye and the Sharingan created two conflicting views—everything looked distorted and bizarre.

His brain was starting to ache. After all, he was seeing the same image at two different speeds—one at normal, the other slower than 0.5x. No one could stand that.

He pulled his forehead protector down to cover his eye, resembling Kakashi more than he liked, and that annoyed him.

"Damn it. That bastard Obito got away. Kamui is seriously broken. No way—I've got to find a way to swap out Kakashi's eye someday. Otherwise, I'll never be able to catch Obito."

With that kind of space-time ninjutsu, Obito could go wherever he wanted. Even the Hokage's bathroom might as well be his own house.

Way too dangerous.

Boom!!!

Just as he was lost in thought, an explosion erupted in the distance. The Three-Tails had unleashed a Tailed Beast Bomb under the siege of the Kirigakure forces.

"I swear, is there no one in Kirigakure who can actually fight? Oh, right. Most of them were killed by Karatachi Yagura."

He could tell that Kirigakure was now relying entirely on a few individuals like Hoshigaki Kisame and Terumī Mei. They had no real powerful ninja left to speak of.

The three major ninja clans had all been wiped out. Only a few scattered survivors managed to escape.

Haku, Suigetsu, Kimimaro...

"Alright, fine. I'll help you guys out."

He ran toward the battlefield.

"Restrain Yagura-sama! We can't let him fire another Tailed Beast Bomb, or we'll never win!" Ao shouted urgently.

Hoshigaki Kisame swung his massive blade, Samehada, shaving off chunks of the Three-Tails' chakra.

"Samehada's almost full... How is it still holding on? The Tailed Beast's chakra is seriously insane."

Samehada purred with satisfaction—it hadn't eaten this well in a long time. Chakra... chakra...

As it absorbed the Three-Tails' chakra, it transferred the energy to Kisame, allowing him to unleash stronger attacks and in turn feed Samehada even more.

Terumī Mei was continuously melting away at the Three-Tails' shell with her acid, but it wasn't having much effect.

"Damn it, why is this turtle shell so tough?!"

She panted for breath. Just then, the Three-Tails' tail came crashing down.

"Watch out, Mei!" Ao shouted.

A figure darted in, grabbing Mei and pulling her away from the battlefield.

"Hey, I saved you again. Any reward this time?" Kiyosuke asked, keeping his head lowered.

"No reward! But... thank you, Kiyosuke."

She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and, noticing the forehead protector covering Kiyosuke's left eye, asked in surprise,

"Your eye..."

"It's fine, just a small issue. Anyway, leave the rest to me."

Mei grabbed his arm.

"Wait. You can't go. If you fight Yagura-sama now, he'll probably die."

She was being honest. With Kiyosuke's explosive style, he'd probably just blow Yagura out of Tailed Beast Mode and half to death in the process.

But that was before.

"Don't worry. I may not have been able to bring my friend back, but I did walk away with a prize."

He lifted his forehead protector, revealing the Sharingan.

The three tomoe merged into a four-point pinwheel as he approached Karatachi Yagura and released the genjutsu.

He glanced back at the others and, using his Mangekyō Sharingan, erased their memories of seeing him today.

To them, it would be Mei, Kisame, and the others who had snapped Yagura out of it.

Tonight's entire operation had been to bring Karatachi Yagura back to his senses.

Using this level of genjutsu required a significant amount of chakra. If it hadn't been for Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan, it wouldn't have been possible.

It wouldn't last forever either. As time passed, such fabricated memories would eventually resurface. But by then, no one would care anymore. What's past is past.

And there was nothing they could do to him anyway.

Disguised as a Kirigakure ANBU, he said,

"Mei, it's all up to you now. I'm heading out."

"Wait."

Just as Kiyosuke turned back, a soft body fell into his arms. The fleeting warmth of the girl lasted only a second.

Face flushed, Mei said,

"Go get some rest."

He paused for a moment, then nodded silently and walked away.

Watching his figure disappear into the night, Mei sighed, her expression conflicted. Then she looked back at the dazed group, now with altered memories, and muttered with frustration,

"How am I supposed to wake them up? And once I do, how do I explain all this? Seriously, leaving me with this mess? But... thank you, Kiyosuke~"

The girl's mood brightened again.

Meanwhile, Kiyosuke had arrived at the Terumī compound. He stood by the gate for a moment, then turned and left...

After regaining his senses, Karatachi Yagura was deeply remorseful.

Not for killing the three major clans.

But for being controlled.

As the Mizukage, the fact that someone had manipulated him so thoroughly was a disgrace.

"Kisame, you said that person tried to recruit you into a group called 'Akatsuki'?"

"Yes, Mizukage-sama," Hoshigaki Kisame replied, reporting everything Obito had said when trying to recruit him.

Yagura fell silent for a moment, then said,

"I'm assigning you a mission..."

...

Dragging her exhausted body home, Terumī Mei entered her room. She immediately opened the closet—only to find no sign of Kiyosuke.

She quickly asked her mother if Kiyosuke had come back last night.

The answer was no.

"That bastard..."

She cursed softly, eyes turning red with tears...

...

Meanwhile, Kiyosuke quietly arrived at the gates of Kirigakure.

He hadn't gone far when he sensed a familiar chakra presence.

"Huh? This chakra feels really familiar..."

Following the sensation, he arrived at a valley outside the village.

"You've got to be kidding me..."

Inside the valley, a woman lay collapsed, her body riddled with kunai, barely clinging to life. She wore a Sunagakure forehead protector.

A Kirigakure ninja was saying something nearby.

"My luck is really..."

Kiyosuke smacked himself in the face, knocking out the nearby Kirigakure ninja in an instant. Then he killed the one who had been shouting.

He picked up the woman on the ground, carefully pulling out the kunai and stopping her bleeding.

"Sa-save me..."
