Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

As the days passed, their connection grew 🌱. They both started sending good morning 🌞 and goodnight 🌙 texts, even though their busy work schedules meant they were often running on empty. But despite the hectic routines, they always made time to check in with each other, sharing little moments of their day. It was like finding a thread of calm amidst the chaos 🧘‍♀️.

One evening, while chatting, Somika casually mentioned that her graduation was coming up the next week 🎓. Dhurba, always attentive, asked, "Is there anyone else coming with you?"

Somika sighed 😔, her fingers pausing over her phone. "No," she replied. "I asked a couple of people—my landlord, my boss, a few colleagues—but no one confirmed. Everyone's busy."

She sent the message, expecting some sympathy, maybe even a suggestion to make her feel better. Instead, Dhurba's reply came in almost too quickly. "Okay."

Somika blinked at her screen, feeling a strange mix of confusion 😕 and frustration 😤. "Okay?" she typed, her fingers hovering, as if to double-check if she'd missed something. "Just... okay?"

She waited for his response, her mind racing 💭. Was he saying he didn't care? Was he indifferent about her graduation? Was that really it? She hadn't expected fireworks 🎆, but she definitely didn't expect that simple reply.

Before we go further, let's take a moment to introduce Somika properly. 🌸

She's from Nepal, but from a different part of the country than Dhurba. She grew up in a humble family, with her younger brother now living in Australia. Somika came to London to pursue her master's in data science and Analytics. It wasn't really part of her plan to end up here; she had originally planned to move to Australia to be with her brother. But when the pandemic hit, everything changed. So, instead of Australia, she found herself in London, trying to figure things out on her own.

No family here. No close friends. Just a few calls with her brother back in Australia and calling her parents back in Nepal and adjusting to life in a new city. But she's making it work, building a future for herself one step at a time.
