Chapter 2 - S1 E2 - LHS-1361

The engines slowly retreated back to a soft blue glow as the ship drifted out of the station. Kilo prepped spent this time to plot his route towards the opposite side of the system. The journey would only take a few minutes considering the use of the ships FTL drive.

"Exiting regulated airspace, safe flights pilot"

The station's automatic broadcaster played the message through Kilo's radio. This message indicated that he could now FTL jump out of the zone.

Kilo flipped various switches making the ship whine in a steady high pitch as the ship slowly exceeded its normal maximum flight speed. In an instant the ship disappeared from view of the station steadily accelerating over five times the speed of light. The light formed long strokes that seemed to bend as the ship kept accelerating past 10C, it formed a beautiful display of wonderful colours highlighting the galaxies hidden gems.

In just a few short minutes he had arrived at a small outpost station that acted more like a refueling station than anything. This small station didn't have any atmosphere or gravity systems to hold anything or anyone down. Kilo slowly guided the ship down once he was granted landing permission making sure to stay aligned with the designated pad. He eventually touched down with the landing pads locking mechanism slowly shifting the ship to prepare for takeoff and unloading of the package.

The stations workers swiftly unloaded the package, as they worked Kilo watched from the ships cockpit wondering how they were walking around despite the zero gravity before he realised their boots must have magnetic grips installed. The package had been successfully delivered and payment made marking completion of his first contract. Kilo sat there in awe of the milky way's hidden beauty that many dismissed as his ship was being refueled, the monumental gas clouds mixed with the glow of stars thousands of light years away made for a spectacular sight.

The payment was enough to cover basic supplies and accommodation but if he wanted to make a true life as a freelancer he would have to take more risk and he knew this. The only option left now was to head back to Prospect station. Within the same amount of time it took him to complete the contract he was standing back in the broker hall. The contracts were vast with there being more than before, it was good opportunity as it meant endless credits despite the risks.

The courier contracts were all lower paying but for good reason, low risk meant low reward. Kilo figured he should play it safer for now before facing more challenging conditions. With this in mind he accepted ten courier jobs in the hopes of not returning to Prospect for some time. The crews swiftly loaded the cargo into his ship before retreating to safety as the ship whirred to life once again. The blinding flash or pure white light marked Kilo's departure from Prospect as he accelerated well beyond light speeds.
