"You tried to kill me in that barrage! You–" Kilo furiously boomed at the unfazed lieutenant before being cut off.
"We thought you were dead, never used the communication device to update your status" A tinge of disappointment spread across Sylvis's face as he spoke catching Kilo's attention.
"It's not a communication device is it?" The disappointment in his voice was immeasurable as Kilo realised the danger on him.
"It's a small high yield explosive, considering your previous work in our ranks I personally thought you would recognise such devices." Sylvis was unlike any lieutenant Kilo had ever met. Syvlis seemed out of place, they were too calm about about everything, they held the power to make Kilo disappear. "I read your records, digging up your black ops missions wasn't easy, you have no idea how many bribes that took."
"If you read my records you know why I left the SDF." The records were thought to be erased from existence making Kilo truly understand the danger Sylvis possed.
"Operation L.N.W was your last operation before leaving the SDF, what I don't understand is why. You and your team carried out dozens of missions like it…so what changes?" Sylvis changed their tone oddly quickly, instead of eerily calm they were curious.
"They…they were civilians, we could have let them live but mission orders were t–to leave no witnesses. We murdered dozens…families destroyed, I couldn't be part of the SDF after that." The file Sylvis read was missing this section, hearing the real story behind operation L.N.W made them visibly ashamed of the SDF's actions.
"The goal of sending you into the Ventrix black site was to get you killed, you have knowledge that can damage the SDF's reputation in this sector." It was clear to Kilo now, all those black ops missions have him the power to destroy the SDF's standing in that sector. "I'll be honest, you are far too dangerous with the information you have, I won't have you eliminated but we will be watching you very closely." It was a threat in disguise, if Kilo damages the SDF's standing there'll be hell to pay.
"I completed the contract, I want my payment." Kilo slid the sample container across the table along with a data transfer code towards Sylvis.
"Very well. Credit transfer will be completed shortly." The two reverted back to business unnaturally quickly but the hatred for each other still stood firm.
