Chapter 15 - The Testament of the Primordial and the Legacy of Chaos

The crimson energy path, revealed by the blood-red crystal tablet, led them winding through the impossible architecture of the Forgotten Sanctuary. Every step Lin Feng and Xiao Lan took, with Glob clinging to the former's shoulder like a silent, expectant lookout, seemed to draw them deeper into the heart of a mystery that transcended time. The awakening Guardian of Knowledge's pressure was no longer a distant threat but an almost tangible presence, a weight on their souls that demanded reverence and awe.

Finally, the path of light vanished, depositing them at the threshold of a central chamber of truly cosmic proportions. The ceiling was lost in a darkness that mimicked a starless night sky, vast and unfathomable. Columns of dark, polished matter, appearing to drink the scarce ambient light, rose at regular intervals like the bones of a forgotten god. In the exact center of this immensity, a figure floated.

It was neither beast nor man in the conventional sense. It was woven from intertwined light and shadow, an ethereal humanoid silhouette several meters tall, its face a whirlwind of ancient energies where sometimes hints of unfathomable wisdom could be discerned, and at other times, the accumulated sorrow of countless eons. Two incredibly bright points of starlight served as eyes, emanating an intelligence and power that made Lin Feng's Chaotic Heart vibrate with a mix of primordial terror and a strange, almost painful, sense of belonging.

Xiao Lan instantly tensed, her Umbral Phoenix Flame, now on the verge of the Golden Core, bursting around her in a protective barrier of gold, purple, and black. The pressure emanating from the figure was so overwhelming that even she, with her newfound power, felt her knees threaten to buckle. Glob shrank to barely a dark smudge on Lin Feng, emitting a psychic whimper of pure apprehension.

"You have arrived." The Guardian's voice was not a sound but a wave of pure thought that flooded their minds, vast, ancient, and resonating with the echo of creation itself. "I have awaited you for countless ages, Bearer of Chaos."

The figure's starlight gaze fixed solely on Lin Feng, momentarily ignoring Xiao Lan. Lin Feng felt as if his entire soul was laid bare, every secret, every fear, every iota of his chaotic power being scrutinized by an all-encompassing consciousness.

"Who... who are you?" Lin Feng managed to project mentally, his inner voice a fragile tremor.

"I am the Guardian of this Arcane Knowledge, an echo of will left by the Elder One, the Primordial of Chaos. My sole purpose is this: to ensure that the last of his lineage does not perish in ignorance and receives the legacy that is his by right and by a destiny woven at the dawn of time."

The figure moved, or rather, the light and shadow comprising it flowed, creating the illusion of a gesture. "But knowledge is not granted; it is earned. Power is not given; it is conquered. Even a destined legacy must be claimed with will and fortitude. Prove to me, Bearer, that you are more than a mere accidental vessel of a force you do not comprehend."

Before Lin Feng could react, a surge of pure chaotic energy, cold and tearing like the vacuum between stars, erupted from the Guardian and enveloped him. It was not an attack to destroy but a test. He felt as if his Chaotic Heart were being ripped from his chest and exposed to a cosmic storm. The pain was instant, absolute. He glimpsed chaos in its rawest form: annihilation and creation in an infinite cycle, the dance of existence and nothingness.

"Lin Feng!" Xiao Lan's cry was sharp, filled with alarm. She tried to move, but an invisible barrier of power held her back.

"He must face this alone, Fire Phoenix. His chaos must acknowledge its master, or be consumed by its own nature," the Guardian's voice resonated.

Lin Feng was lost in a whirlwind of sensations. Fear threatened to break him. But then, he remembered the tablet, the meditation, the "active stillness" in the eye of the storm. He remembered Glob, a part of himself that had found harmony. With an effort of will that seemed to tear his own soul, instead of fighting the surge of chaos, he tried to embrace it, to find its center, its resonance.

Glob, on his shoulder, began to glow with a desperate purple light, and Lin Feng felt his small companion trying to absorb some of the pressure, sharing his burden. The connection between them, forged in danger and necessity, became an anchor. Slowly, painfully, Lin Feng began to find a rhythm within the whirlwind, his Chaotic Heart pulsing not in rebellion but in a tentative resonance with the Guardian's overwhelming energy.

The process lasted an eternity contained within a minute. When the pressure finally subsided, Lin Feng was on his knees, gasping, drenched in sweat, but his eyes shone with a new and fierce determination. He had stared into the abyss of his own power and had not broken.

"You have resisted," said the Guardian, and Lin Feng detected a hint of something that might be approval, or perhaps surprise. "The seed is strong. The legacy will not be lost. Listen now, for time is short, and the knowledge I will impart to you is vital."

The barrier holding Xiao Lan vanished, and she rushed to Lin Feng's side, helping him up, her face a mix of relief and astonishment.

"The Bearers of Chaos," the Guardian continued, his voice now addressing both of them, "are the embodiment of infinite potentiality. Their Chaotic Heart is a fragment of Primordial Chaos itself, the source of all creation and dissolution. But this energy grows ceaselessly, and without proper refinement, without a Harmonic Link to act as a catalyst and anchor, the Bearer consumes himself, becoming a singularity of annihilation."

"To achieve harmony, the Bearer needs a companion whose Dao resonates in a particular way, someone capable of receiving the chaotic essence, purifying it through their own understanding of the Dao, and returning stabilized energy that nurtures both the Bearer and the Link. It is an act of absolute trust, for in that exchange, both Daos are exposed, vulnerable to betrayal and mutual destruction. For this reason, Bearers were feared, hunted by those who saw only danger and not potential, and their lineage almost went extinct."

The Guardian's gaze fell on Xiao Lan. "And you, young Phoenix of Purifying Fire, now touched by the Umbra. Your Dao possesses the rare quality of transmutation without annihilation. The Primordial of Chaos, in its vast prescience, wove the threads of destiny so that you would be the one to meet the last Bearer. You are his first destined Harmonic Link, the first pillar of his future Throne of Links."

Xiao Lan inhaled deeply, her jade eyes reflecting the magnitude of the revelation. She looked at Lin Feng, not with fear, but with a new and complex understanding, a mix of the burden of an imposed destiny and the intuition of a shared power she had already tasted.

"My primary task," the Guardian said, his form beginning to glow with an internal light, "is to deliver to the Bearer the Necessary Resource: the Library of Primordial Chaos. The accumulated knowledge of countless civilizations that understood or served Chaos, the techniques to mold it, the arts to survive its embrace. Receive it, Lin Feng!"

The Guardian raised his ethereal hands. The cavern filled with a light that was neither chaos nor order, but pure potential. Lin Feng felt his dantian transform into a sun, his Chaotic Heart opening like a thousand-petaled flower. An avalanche of pure knowledge, not as words but as conceptual essences, flowed into him. He saw diagrams of battle techniques that defied physics, alchemical formulas that could create life from nothing or dissolve matter into pure energy, stories of creation whispered by the void itself.

This time, the experience was different. The meditation technique he had glimpsed earlier on the tablet seemed to activate instinctively, helping him create a mental space, a vast palace of memory where every concept, every technique, found its place. Glob, now glowing with furious intensity, clung to him, absorbing the pure chaotic energy overflowing from the process, acting as a stabilizer and a filter. Lin Feng glimpsed titles in the corridors of this internal library: "The Sutra of the Devouring Void Heart," "The Thirty-Six Transformations of Primeval Chaos," "The Art of Controlled Entropy." They were only glimpses, but the promise of their content was infinite.

When the flow finally ceased, Lin Feng felt like a newborn with the wisdom of an ancient god.

"The Library is yours, Bearer," said the Guardian, his form visibly fainter. "You can access all its knowledge with your mind, but mastering it will require eons of effort. And so that you and your Link can begin this path, so that you can survive the dangers your new path will attract, I will grant you one last blessing."

A stream of refined energy, a pure and primordial essence containing the perfect balance of Yin, Yang, and Harmonized Chaos, flowed from the Guardian into Lin Feng, Xiao Lan, and Glob.

Xiao Lan felt her newly reached Golden Core threshold flooded, strengthened, her Umbral Phoenix Flame purifying and reaching a new and terrifying peak of power. Her understanding of the Dao soared. She had fully entered the Golden Core Realm, and not its initial stage, but consolidated and powerful!

Glob chirped with pure joy, his body absorbing the energy, visibly growing and changing. His slime form became larger, more defined, and intricate crystalline patterns momentarily sprouted from his surface before receding, leaving a deep metallic sheen on his dark skin. His psychic abilities and his connection with Lin Feng exponentially amplified.

Lin Feng, once again, did not feel a change in his Qi Condensation realm. But the power now vibrating in his Chaotic Heart was of a completely different order. It was deeper, vaster, and for the first time, he felt a true glimpse of control, an ability to consciously direct threads of that energy without it costing him his life. He could feel the techniques of the Library calling him, ready to be studied and unleashed. He felt… reborn.

As they were immersed in assimilating this power, the Guardian, almost transparent now, extended a trembling hand towards the outside of the cavern. "The echoes of your awakening will attract unwanted attention. Those who have wronged you, those who might be an obstacle to the delicate beginning of your path... will be... redirected. Their memories of the secrets you have touched will be veiled."

Lin Feng and Xiao Lan intuited, rather than saw, how a subtle but irresistible wave of power extended beyond the sanctuary.

The Guardian turned to Lin Feng one last time, his form almost vanishing. The light in his eyes intensified, focusing on the core of Lin Feng's being, on the newly implanted Library, on the Chaotic Heart now vibrating with a new purpose. And then, shock. A stupefaction so profound it silenced the Guardian's mental voice for an instant.

"No... it can't be..." the thought came, faint and filled with an awe that bordered on terror and adoration. "That Seal... The Seal of Origin... the Will of the First Dawn reflected in your soul... You... you are not just a Bearer! You are... you are the Echo of the...!"

But before the final revelation could be uttered, the Guardian's form disintegrated. With a last breath that seemed to carry the weight of eons, it dissipated into countless motes of light that ascended and were lost in the darkness of the cavern ceiling, leaving only a silence pregnant with mystery.

Lin Feng and Xiao Lan, still recovering from the immense infusion of power and the Guardian's disappearance, felt the sanctuary begin to vibrate. The blood-red crystal tablet, the one that had shown the map, glowed with blinding intensity. A gentle but irresistible force enveloped them and Glob.

The world dissolved into a whirlwind of light and energy.

When Lin Feng regained consciousness, the scent of damp moss and the sweet perfume of pine trees filled his lungs. The soft murmur of a nearby stream was the only sound. He opened his eyes to a sky veiled by a slight morning mist, golden sun rays filtering through the tall canopies of lush trees he had never seen before.

He lay on a bed of soft grass. Beside him, Xiao Lan began to stir, her jade eyes slowly opening, reflecting the light of the new day. Glob was curled between them, gently snoring (if a slime could snore), his body gleaming with a healthy luster.

Their memories of the Guardian, of the Library of Chaos, of the bestowal of power, were vivid, seared into their souls. But the Guardian's last, interrupted words... what had he seen? What was he about to reveal about him?

He looked at Xiao Lan, who was now observing him with a complex expression, a mix of awe at her new powers and a new, undeniable connection forged in the crucible of the impossible.

They were in an unknown, peaceful place, but the echo of the Guardian's words and the weight of their new legacy resonated strongly. The Spirit Beast Trial, the Scarlet Cloud Sect... everything seemed to belong to a previous life.

Lin Feng touched his chest, feeling the deep, constant beat of his Chaotic Heart, now a universe of knowledge and power waiting to be unleashed. A new era had begun. And as terrifying and exciting as it was, he knew he wouldn't face it alone.
