Chapter 2 - Chapter 2. The first months

Around a month passed.

Ever since Mordred switched on his Magic Circuits and discovered a way to release his internal energy, he continued doing exactly that every single day. Or more precisely, he did this every time he woke up.

Because all that he was doing was making things flow out through his circuits and there was no pain, he felt that it was safe to do. The feeling was also similar to Rudeus's description of 'warmth' flowing through his blood vessels, confirming that he was on the right track.

Mordred also quickly discovered that over time the amount of energy he expelled increased; in other words, his Mana Pool grew! And it grew at a very fast and exponential rate.

At first, it doubled every day. If the amount of Magical Energy he had at the very beginning was the size of a teaspoon, after a week it was the size of a large cup. After another week it increased to the size of a bucket.

Unfortunately, this rate of improvement quickly tapered off after that.

Although Mordred's total amount of Magical Energy grew increasingly larger with each day due to a higher base amount, the relative improvements were gradually lower; it no longer doubled with each day.

After a month, he estimated that if he started with a teaspoon of Mana, now he had a Mana Pool the size of a water tanker. It was still a huge change.

But where he stored all those 20,000 liters of Mana in the tiny body of his, he had no idea. It was just an imaginative size of his Mana Pool anyway.

Sensing this kind of improvement made Mordred feel very satisfied and motivated to keep practicing.

The rate at which he could expel his energy also gradually improved. Although the number of his Magic Circuits unfortunately did not seem to grow alongside it, their efficiency in carrying out the job was improving, or his own skill at doing so.

However, he failed to perform any actual magic in the outside world. For now he could only use Mana Release to grow his Mana Pool.

With his method of practice, he would wake up, begin to cry for someone to take care of his baby needs like breastfeeding and having his butt cleaned, release his Magical Energy and then instantly fall back to sleep.

This method of releasing Mana to fall asleep luckily also helped him to get faster through the uncomfortable time of being an immobile little baby pooping himself.

He was probably sleeping around 23 hours a day. He had no idea what the maids thought, but they didn't throw him out yet, so that was good enough.

In relation to the maids, after a while Mordred failed to see his supposed mother again. He had no idea what happened, but whenever he woke up, he was fed by an older woman instead.

Although a number of things could have happened, Mordred had a bad feeling about this.

Even so, there was nothing that he could do apart from releasing his Mana whenever awake and pooping his diapers while asleep.

Around six months passed in total.

During this time, Mordred had never seen his birth mother again. From the subtle reactions of the maids whenever he babbled "mama," he could guess that something bad had happened. Their downcast gazes, the way their hands would still for a moment and none of it boded well.

Mordred prepared himself for the worst.

The thought that his reincarnation might have led to that bright woman's death left a bitter taste in his mouth, but he certainly did not feel guilty of being alive nor of being born. If there was someone to blame, then it was Morgan for making things turn out this way.

And perhaps originally that woman was not meant to have survived in the first place, along with the baby. Mordred liked to think this way.

His primary caretaker serving as his nursing mother was now instead a 30-year-old noble-looking woman with dark-brown hair and an air of dignity. She was his wet nurse and nanny.

Through their interactions, he learned that his full name seemed to be Mordred Kingdragon.

He slowly began to learn the new language, but the meaning of the words that made up his surname still eluded him. | I'll just pretend that his name is not bastardised English for some reason (~Morudredo Kingudoragon).

In regard to his everyday training, after five more months of expelling his magical Energy, his Mana Pool had comparatively grown from a water tanker to the size of a small lake.

Along with it, Mordred had discovered a type of Magic that he's already capable of using.

It was… Reinforcement!

He could use his Mana to reinforce his body, making it stronger and more durable, also boosting his reaction speed and the five senses.

In the Fate universe it would likely be called Reinforcement Magecraft or Strengthening Magecraft, the basis for all Magi to strengthen their physical bodies to superhuman levels in order to fight in close range, as well as to temporarily strengthen objects like a sword, a metal pipe to be used as a weapon or even a table to be used as a shield.

Using Reinforcement on his body, Mordred could do several more knee push-ups than normal, essentially doubling or tripling his strength.

He also discovered that by sending his Magical Energy into objects, he could analyze their structure and potentially also reinforce them.

He seemed to have a natural talent for Mana Reinforcement. Given that he was supposed to be a child of the King of Knights, technically even King Arthur's clone brought to life through Morgan's Magic, it was probably only natural.

Thinking of this, Mordred also discovered the irony of the God who reincarnated him appearing to meet him in the form of Morgan Freeman. Truly, Morgan's Magic had brought him to life as well!

Mordred only hoped that he was not a homunculus because it would probably severely shorten his lifespan.

However, seeing how he was growing up at a normal and not enhanced rate, it didn't seem to be the case.

Currently, after slowly growing up over the last six months, Mordred's body developed only enough to allow him to crawl around; there was nothing unordinary there.

His nanny allowed him to freely crawl around his room, but Mordred did not stop at only exploring just his room and would also crawl out into the corridor and other places, also remembering to act like an actual silly child sometimes to not arouse suspicion.

As a result of his exploration, he saw that the mansion he lived in seemed to belong to a rich noble family or even a royal family.

There were many servants in the mansion. And even as he crawled along the corridor, he failed to reach its end, at least before someone picked him up and ended his odyssey.

His status in the family didn't seem to be low. Rather than a child of a servant, even though his parents were quite neglectful, he should still be a noble. This could be seen in the way he was treated by his nanny and the other maid.

This was naturally a good thing because once his talents are revealed he should not lack learning resources and teachers.

But before learning how to cast continent-erasing spells and swing space-shearing sword strikes, Mordred had a more basic test of his motor skills to pass first.

It was walking.

Not crawling around on all fours, but walking on two legs, like an example of an intelligent species of primates, which he saw himself as yet could not yet prove it.

Holding onto the leg of a chair, which was akin to a thick wooden pillar in his grasp, Mordred secretly reinforced his body and raised himself up, relying on both his legs and arm muscles; fortunately no white lines indicating his Magic Circuits appeared all over his skin on the outside when he did that like in the Fate anime adaptation.

[Ooh… Careful!]

Mordred heard his nanny say something in a worried tone as she overlooked what he was doing.

The woman quickly ran over ready to grab Mordred from behind, but upon seeing him firmly stand on his two legs, she held back and only lightly supported him. 'A six-month-old attempting to walk... This is… really…'

The woman had her own child, so she knew that he only began walking slightly before turning 1 year old. She could not help but smile and secretly cheered Mordred on.

Meanwhile, while standing on his wobbly knees that seemed as if they would buckle down at any moment, Mordred had a bad premonition about things.

It was Instinct.

There was no problem with the strength of his muscles but stability.

However, he was supported from behind, so he felt he should at least give things a try.

Still holding onto the chair's leg, he let go of it.

He then took one shaky step forward.

One…

After that one step, he could not stand straight anymore and began to fall forward.

Fortunately, his nanny caught him just in time.

Mordred got back to a crawling position, then looked at the 30-year-old woman, smiled and let out a child's silly laughter to appear like a baby.

Secretly, he thought, 'It seems that walking is still a too high ranking skill for my body...'
