Chapter 22 - Chapter 21: The Birth of RobinNew

"Where's the car?"

"It exploded." Connors said awkwardly, facing Seol Hee's puzzled look from inside the two-door supercar.

"It seems that you, like those Avengers, frequently destroy your own vehicles," Seol Hee suddenly realized.

But she quickly dropped the topic; a muscle car was nothing to a big star like her. Looking at the supercar's interior, she seemed quite knowledgeable.

She stretched out her hand, operated a series of buttons, and said, "Did you know? The shock absorption effect of this car is very good…"

After she finished speaking, the car window glass became completely opaque from the outside.

There was still nearly an hour before the circus performance, and soon, in the underground parking lot, this luxury car without a visible logo began to vibrate slightly and rhythmically.

"Applause for the exciting performance that's about to begin! Performing on stage is the owner and operator of the world-famous Grayson Circus—"

"The Flying Graysons!"

Seol Hee's concert stage had been transformed into a circus arena. As the spotlights came on, two agile figures descended from a height with the help of ropes, performing one breathtaking act after another.

As the spotlight remained focused on the Flying Graysons, no one noticed that beneath the stage, seeds were sprouting, growing, and strengthening. These plant changes were, of course, related to Connors.

He sat in the audience seats below the stage with Seol Hee, attracting no attention. After a series of warm-ups, the Grayson couple was about to begin their formal performance, and their eight-year-old son, Dick Grayson, was also preparing to take the stage.

Just as Dick Grayson was about to fasten his rope and join his parents, a barely audible "ripping" sound was heard. The rope in the air, which had been thoroughly checked and confirmed secure in front of the lampstand, snapped at that moment. The Grayson couple, suspended in mid-air, plummeted downwards.

This was ten meters above the ground; a fall meant certain death.

"No—" Dick Grayson, only eight years old, screamed.

In the stadium, countless spectators also cried out. Gotham City's famous "Flying Graysons" family had always been known for their spectacular performances and had never had any safety incidents. But at this moment, something terrible had happened!

Connors sat next to Seol Hee, watching the performance intently. The moment he saw the Graysons fall, a large number of plants spread wildly, erupting from under the stage and quickly forming a large net to catch them. However, Connors possessed only 1% of the "Green of All Things." He could control plant growth, but he couldn't completely defy common sense like Poison Ivy. In other words, no matter what forms the plants controlled by Connors took, they were still inherently fragile.

Knowing this characteristic, he had deliberately scattered a large number of seeds around the stage, hoping to achieve a qualitative change through quantity.

But an accident soon occurred. The Graysons' bodies were still in the air, and before they fell into the plant net, the broken rope, affected by elastic force, struck the net at an odd angle.

Bang!

It moved so fast that a sonic boom echoed from the end of the rope. Because of this, a large hole appeared in the center of the net that Connors had grown.

Oops! Connors's heart tightened. Was there still no way he could save the couple and alter this family's fate?

Even though he had mentally prepared himself, he couldn't help but sigh as he watched the two, following the trajectory of fate, unable to survive because of his failed attempt.

With two loud thuds, the Graysons died instantly. The audience in the front row had blood splattered on their faces. Some screamed, some vomited, and some fled.

The stadium plunged into chaos. Only Dick Grayson stood on a high platform, his face dazed, staring at the two bodies below, then frantically rushed down the stairs.

The corpses that terrified others were his parents. He threw himself directly onto the bodies, desperately trying to comprehend their eternal sleep.

"It seems that to change this established history, we need stronger strength," Connors muttered with some regret. Fortunately, he quickly adjusted his mindset and walked step by step from the audience to Dick Grayson.

Before he could say anything, a staff member rushed in from backstage and handed him a phone: "Sir, it's Bruce Wayne."

On the other end of the phone, Batman was still lying on the operating table, but in front of him was a monitor showing the stadium's surveillance camera, originally used for concerts but now converted for the circus.

"I've seen what happened," Bruce Wayne said. "Please bring him to me. I want to adopt him."

_________

In Wayne Manor, Connors and Bruce Wayne, who stood on the floor as if nothing had happened, stared at each other. This kind of silence didn't suit Connors's character, so he took the initiative to break it: "Aren't you… well, broken-backed?"

Bruce Wayne looked at Connors expressionlessly: "You really want to see me lying in a hospital bed, dying?"

Connors didn't respond. He was very curious how Batman, who had been undergoing surgery that morning, could stand before him in good health in just half a day.

Seeing that Batman refused to speak, he simply went around to Bruce Wayne's back, and then he saw an exoskeleton-like support holding him upright. Judging from the markings on the brace, this was clearly not the first one.

It might be something Batman had prepared in advance for situations where his bones were broken.

Bruce Wayne turned around, not wanting Connors to continue staring at his back, and said: "I checked the surveillance in the stadium. You scattered seeds around the stage before the show started. It seemed that you anticipated the death of the Graysons."

This couldn't be hidden from Batman, and Connors didn't intend to hide it, so he nodded in admission.

"So, even if I didn't want to believe what you said before you left this morning, I have to believe it now…"

Connors continued to nod, then saw Bruce Wayne take a step back. Immediately, the room, originally just a reception area, filled with rattling sounds, and hundreds of guns of various shapes pointed at Connors from all angles.

"To make me believe the lie about the destruction of the world, you were going to kill other innocent people, right?"

"You seem to have a strong anti-reconnaissance awareness. You even acted out a complete scenario, creating a scene of trying to save the situation but failing."

"Just surrender, Mr. Connors."

Bruce Wayne pulled out a rocket launcher from somewhere: "You may be able to dodge ordinary bullets, but in such a closed room, how are you going to avoid large-scale damage?"

Being targeted by so many guns—at least hundreds of them simultaneously—even Connors, with his Master-level Tricks, couldn't help but feel his scalp tingle.

"You are worthy of being the Master, but…"

Connors seemed to have expected this. He smiled and took out a bat dart with a flashing red light from his pocket.
