"Gabrielle Forbes," I repeated softly. The name melted beautifully against my tongue. I couldn't help glancing down the hallway again, watching the blind girl disappear with her two escorts. Something about her presence tugged at me — warm, magnetic, impossible to shake.
I turned back to Leon. "So… when does the ball start?"
"In about thirty minutes," he said.
My shoulders tensed. "And what do they do at the ball?"
"Oh, everything," Leon replied, waving a hand. "They dance, they sing, they show off… It's a whole spectacle."
My heart dropped straight into my stomach. "Leon, I can't do any of that. What if they call me to dance? Or to sing? I'll embarrass us!"
"They won't drag you onto a stage," he said, rolling his eyes. "Relax. You'll just dance with me."
"But I don't know how to dance!"
"You can't 'cheat' me," Leon said, stepping behind me and placing his hands on my hips. "Dancing is easy. Just follow the beat."
"I just… flow with the beat?"
"Exactly."
