...
A while before Yusuke came to the ORC, Rias and Akeno were facing off on the roof.
"Do you know what you are saying, Akeno!!?" The floor beneath them was faintly trembling, small debris rattling as Rias glared at Akeno with barely contained fury.
"Fufufu~! If you still don't get it, then I will say it again," Akeno laughed while licking her fingers, completely unfazed by Rias's outburst, "I love Yusuke-kun, and as a matter of fact, I have been doing many naughty things with him behind your back."
Just moments ago, Akeno had dragged Rias to the roof to confront her directly and declare her feelings for Yusuke.
After the conversation she had with Yusuke in the storage room, the way she intended to approach their relationship changed completely.
At first, she wanted to remain in the shadows, seducing Yusuke while letting Rias attract all the hostility. However, things did not work out as she had imagined, because aside from Koneko, none of Yusuke's women actually cared about Rias, well... except during the first few days.
Akeno found it very strange how all of Yusuke's women were insanely obsessed with him, yet not a single one grew jealous when other women got closer to him. In fact, she had noticed many times that Sona and Tsubaki even tried to push Rias straight into his bed.
It was as if... as if all of these women worshipped Yusuke like a god, which Akeno also thought he very much deserved, and none of them would hesitate to give him every woman he desired. Heck, she felt that not one of them would mind creating a massive harem just for him.
If Yusuke were to one day set his eyes on any member of Sona's peerage, Akeno was certain that Sona would immediately deliver that person to Yusuke's bed, whether that person wanted it or not.
So, her original clever plan to make use of Rias and quietly take Yusuke fell through before it even started; however, Akeno still kept her plan in motion, because she simply enjoyed the thrill of having fun with him behind Rias's back.
However, now she wanted to do more for Yusuke; she felt that he understood her more, and she also realized that her previous actions had been very shallow. Her claims of loving him more than anyone else felt ridiculous, simply because she had never bothered to truly understand or care for his feelings.
She was also no longer interested in playing hide and seek with Rias; what she wanted was to be with Yusuke all the time, right in front of everyone.
"I fucking heard you the first time!" Rias shouted, her hair whipping violently around her. "How could you do this to me? I trusted you, and yet you have been playing me like a fiddle!"
Over the past month, Akeno had been the only person she could turn to whenever she stumbled in approaching Yusuke, and the only one she could vent her frustration to whenever she faced other girls trying to steal Yusuke away from her.
To think that her best friend had turned out to be a double agent! It was absurd how she had treated her as her closest ally all this time!
"Yeah, I know, I was wrong, sorry Rias," Akeno retracted her smile and said in a low voice.
"Do you expect me to just write it off if you apologize? Who the fuck do you take me for?!" Rias had never cursed this much in her life, and she was fighting the urge to end her best friend right then and there.
Akeno calmly walked closer to Rias, speaking slowly. "I know you are frustrated. It is my fault, but do you not think you are far too obsessed with the other girls around Yusuke?"
"Yusuke deserves all the love in this world. Sona and the others love him just as much as we do, so why not bury this jealousy deep and give him even more love instead?" Akeno spoke sincerely, though she deliberately brushed aside the matter of betraying Rias behind her back.
BOOM!
"No! My Yusuke-kun only needs my love! I can give him more love than the whole world can," Rias waved her hand. The air around them exploded, and Akeno was pushed back. "No one loves my Yusuke-kun more than I do! No one does!"
The dark crimson aura radiating from her made her look crazier and enchanting. "Just because I am not doing anything right now does not mean I am satisfied with what is happening!"
She stared deeply into Akeno's eyes and said, "One day I will make every one of them truly fucking pay for touching my Yusuke!"
Akeno had thought the same way as Rias only two days ago, so she was not surprised by her reaction. She spoke with a smirk, "Rias, you are cursing far too much. That is unfitting for the noble heiress of the Gremory Clan."
"That is how Yusuke-kun speaks, and I like it," Rias snorted coldly.
"Fufufu~! Indeed, he does speak like that, but you seem to forget something. Yusuke-kun hates the word 'My' before his name, so you better be careful he does not hear you," Akeno chuckled playfully, winking at Rias.
Rias's face remained cold, her anger not receding in the slightest. She pointed at Akeno and declared, "Akeno, let us end this the way we used to!"
"We will have a fight. If I win, you will no longer be allowed to get close to Yusuke-kun."
"If I lose, I will forgive you for what you did."
When they were young, whenever they had a dispute, they would settle it with a duel.
"A duel? How nostalgic..." Akeno's smile faded as she whispered in a low voice, then quickly agreed. "Alright, let us do it."
Even though the stakes seemed unfair, Akeno did not care. After all, who could guarantee that she would actually follow her promise if she lost? Furthermore, the promise only stated that she was not allowed to get closer to Yusuke, not the other way around. In fact, she was tempted to lose on purpose, just to see Rias's wonderful face when Yusuke himself took the initiative to be with her.
...
They had set up their duel for tomorrow after school, but that plan was immediately thrown away upon the arrival of Grayfia.
Grayfia Lucifuge was an exceptionally beautiful woman with silver hair and striking red eyes. She appeared to be in her early twenties, though she was at least hundreds of years old. Her figure was outstanding, voluptuous in all the right places, with a narrow waist that accentuated her elegance.
She was an Ultimate-Class Devil, the second strongest woman in the entire Underworld, known by the title of the Strongest Queen. She was also the wife of the most powerful Maou, Sirzechs Lucifer.
"Long time no see, Rias-sama." Grayfia held her long skirt and bowed respectfully to Rias. Her eyes then swept across the room until they fixed on the only unfamiliar person present.
The moment her gaze fell on him, it was as if a lightning bolt had struck her. For some strange and suspicious reason, she felt a powerful pull toward this man, as if he were someone deeply important to her. However, the instant that feeling began to rise within her, she forced it down without hesitation.
"You must be Yusuke Aoki-sama." Without showing the slightest change in her expression, Grayfia addressed Yusuke with a calm tone, "I'm a maid that serves the House of Gremory. My name is Grayfia. Pleased to make your acquaintance."
"The pleasure is mine. " Yusuke stood up and answered, his body tense. His eyes and his Haki scanned everything about her, searching for even the tiniest trace of emotion. The feeling this woman in a maid's outfit gave him was dreadfully overwhelming.
She might have appeared dignified and refined, yet the aura and pressure he sensed from her through his Haki were crushingly powerful. Never before had he felt such weight. Even with his explosive progress, he was certain she could take him down with ease.
'Hey bitch, are you sure she isn't one of them?' Despite picking up nothing from her and her showing no suspicious signs, Yusuke still asked the unreliable system.
[She hasn't shown any symptoms of a Yandere, so she probably isn't one. You haven't unlocked the scanning and identifying features yet, so I can't scan her.] Just as he expected from the unreliable system, it said exactly what he thought it would.
'When am I going to unlock that stupid scanning feature?!' Yusuke complained inwardly. If he had that feature, he would feel so much safer. No Yandere would be able to slip past his notice.
"Grayfia-oneesama! Why are you here?" Rias instinctively stepped in front of Yusuke, putting herself between them.
Grayfia frowned slightly, though the frown relaxed the next moment. She glanced at both Rias and Yusuke before speaking, "It is because your relationship with Yusuke Aoki-sama has been exposed to Raiser-sama."
"Lord Phenex and Raiser-sama have contacted Zeoticus-sama and Sirzechs-sama, asking for an explanation," Grayfia spoke calmly. When in her 'maid mode,' she addressed her husband as 'Sirzechs-sama' and acted like a proper maid rather than a wife.
"Raiser found out?" Rias muttered, frowning, before snapping angrily. "Ridiculous! This is my life! I can do whatever I want with it. Who gave him the right to interfere?"
She harbored some resentment toward her father for arranging a marriage between her and Raiser without even considering her feelings.
However, as the heiress of the Gremory Clan, she did not want to bring trouble to her family, so she strove hard to find a way to free herself from this engagement on her own.
In the past, she had been merely dissatisfied and resentful at the idea of being with that blond degenerate man. But now, after meeting Yusuke, the mere thought of breathing the same air as Raiser made her feel sick, and imagining herself marrying him made her skin crawl.
"You are engaged?" Yusuke's eyes widened, his face darkening slightly. He spoke in a low, almost growling voice. The way he looked at Rias made her heart shatter, as if a poisonous blade had pierced it, twisting and shredding it into pieces!
"No! I mean… yes! I am engaged to someone, but it was never something I wanted!" Rias hurriedly grabbed Yusuke's hand, speaking frantically. She had barely started before tears began streaming down her face. "I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to get involved in unnecessary conflict. I was trying to find a way to end this engagement without causing you any trouble."
"Is that so?" Yusuke's expression remained unchanged, his voice calm.
"Really! Really! I didn't mean to lie to you… You know how… how much I love you… Yusuke-kun!" Rias's tears streamed freely, and the fragile smile she was barely holding together broke completely between her sobs.
She would not have minded if Yusuke shouted at her or even hit her, but the way he was acting now filled her with panic and fear. It felt as if he were slipping right out of her grasp.
...
Just a random thought, but why do most Japanese main characters like Luffy, Naruto, and Ichigo...etc, all start out looking like underdogs, only for it to later be revealed that they either have some ridiculous reincarnation twist or their parents are insanely overpowered, and they just inherited their talent? Are these Japanese authors trying to tell us that hard work alone isn't enough if you weren't born with the right genes?
