Chapter 14 - The hunt I ; Grieve

Viktor and the hunters infiltrate Oakwood under the cover of stealth But the pack's heightened senses allowed them to detect the enemy's movements, the crunch of dry leaves and snapping of twigs beneath their feet serving as a warning.

Lyra sprang into action, detonating flash bang grenades that disoriented the pack. Riven seized the opportunity, unleashing wolfsbane-tipped arrows that struck Andrew and Luna with deadly precision. Kai joined the fray, firing wolfsbane-laced bullets that hit Zephyr and matt, though the wounds weren't critical.

Caleb ran and jumped mid air as transformed into his massive beast form as he sprinted towards viktor, his claws swiping deep into Viktor's chest with a deadly force. Viktor was sent flying, crashing into a tree trunk with bone-jarring impact.

Viktor's point,

As I flew through the air, the tree trunk looming before me, I felt a sense of detachment, a numbness that seemed to suffocate me. then, in a split second before the impact, my life flashed before my eyes.

I saw my childhood, my family, as I saw Riven, Lyra and Kai my hunt mates, injured in the battle .

I saw a tender moment with my son. remembered the way my little boy's smile could light up a room, the way his small hand fit perfectly in my own. I recalled the pride i felt watching my son take his first steps, the joy in my child's laughter.

In that fleeting moment, my priorities shifted, i felt a pang of regret at the time I wished I could've been there more for my son, to see him grow and thrive. The memory was bittersweet, a reminder of what truly mattered in life.

The memories tumbled by in a blur, each one more vivid than the last. I saw the thrill of the hunt, the rush of adrenaline as we closed in on our quarry. I saw the camaraderie, the laughter.

And then, just as suddenly, it was over. The impact came, and everything went black. I felt my body crumple, my consciousness slipping away. The last thing I remembered was the sound of the alpha's roar, the feeling of defeat and failure washing over me. And then, nothing....

Matt's Pov,

tapping into my True Alpha powers. As my eyes glowed red sending the Hunters stumbling back. My strength amplified as I charged forward, dodging the laced arrows and bullets shot at me with ease. I even caught a few arrows mid-air, their tips mere inches away from my face, showcasing my supernatural speed and agility....

Zephyr and Luna regained their footing, counterattacking Riven and Lyra with ferocity. the Hunters were relentless, as Alex succumbed to the wolfsbane poisoning, falling from Riven's arrows.

The tide of the battle shifted as Caleb took down Kai in fierce combat. Kia didn't fare as well, falling to Caleb's deadly blow.

Riven critically wound Andrew, Dr. Elena met her end at my claws, her throat slashed in a swift motion. Riven and Lyra, realizing their situation was dire, retreated, leaving their dead behind.

Caleb and I stood victorious, though wounded. The Mooncrest Pack had suffered losses. Alex was dead, Andrew critically wounded, and several others bore the scars of battle with Kai and Viktor dead, Riven and Lyra critically wounded.

The battle may have been won, but the war was far from over. The pack's survival depended on our ability to heal, regroup and prepare for the next assault. ..

Riven's Pov,

We limped through the forest, our breathing labored, our bodies screaming in agony. The Mooncrest Pack's ferocity had caught us off guard, we'd paid the price. I could feel Lyra's eyes on me, her gaze burning with a mix of anger and fear.

"We need to get out of here," I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper. "Let's head back to the basement and tend to our wounds."

Lyra nodded, her face pale with pain. "We can't let them catch up to us. Not in this state." She replied

I gritted my teeth, pushing aside the pain and fatigue. We had to keep moving, had to find a way to survive. The pack would be hunting us, we can't afford to be caught.

As we stumbled through the trees, I couldn't shake the feeling of failure. We'd underestimated the pack, it had cost us dearly. Viktor was dead, and Kai... Kai was gone too. We were all that was left and we were critically injured.

I glanced at Lyra, my eyes meeting hers. We both knew the stakes. We had to make it out of this alive, had to regroup and plan our next move. The Mooncrest Pack might have won this battle, but we would not rest until we'd won the war.

As we stepped into my car I hit the accelerate throttle as I drove home.

We stumbled into the basement, the cool darkness a welcome respite from the pain and chaos above. I fumbled for the lights, casting a dim glow over the space. Lyra leaned against the wall, her eyes closed, her chest heaving with exertion.

I guided her to a makeshift medical station, where I began to clean and dress our wounds. The process was agonizing, I knew it was necessary. We couldn't afford to let our injuries fester, not now, not when we were on the run.

As I worked, my mind wandered to the events that had transpired. The Mooncrest Pack's strength, their ferocity... it was clear we'd underestimated them. I thought about Viktor and Kai, their faces etched in my memory. We'd lost good people, it would take time to come to terms with that.

Matt's Pov,

I stood amidst the carnage, my beast form surveying the aftermath of the brutal battle. The scent of blood and sweat hung heavy in the air, and the sight of our dead pack member weighed heavily on my heart. My own wounds, inflicted by my brother's claws, still lingered, a reminder of the ferocity of the fight.

As Caleb shifted back to his human form, his wounds began to heal at an accelerated rate, thanks to our pack's regenerative abilities. Together, we worked to bury our dead, the somber task a testament to the sacrifices we'd made to protect our pack.

The grief was palpable, a heavy burden that hung over us like a shroud. We mourned the loss of Alex, a vibrant member of our pack, The pain of our losses was a reminder of the risks we took as wolves, defending our territory and our way of life.

As we stood around alex's grave, I felt a sense of responsibility wash over me. I'd to help lead the pack into this battle, I'd made decisions that had cost us dearly. The weight of that responsibility was crushing, I knew I had to find a way to move forward, to help my brother lead the pack through the darkness and into a new era.

Caleb's Pov,

As I buried Alex, my mind was consumed by a singular focus: revenge. I carved Alex's wolf name into the wooden tombstone, the act a poignant reminder of the brother we'd lost. I placed the stone on the grave, my emotions raw and unbridled.

My gaze fell upon the hunters' dead bodies, and a surge of rage coursed through me. I torched the bodies, the flames dancing across the flesh as I let out a primal roar. My eyes burned with fury, the intensity of my emotions almost palpable.

As I turned to face the pack, my gaze locked onto Matt. I could feel the weight of my anger, the depth of my resentment. The hunt for the remaining hunters, for Riven and Lyra, had just become a matter of utmost importance. I would stop at nothing to make them pay for what they'd done. The pack's safety, our very existence, depended on it.
