Over the next few days, Jim continued to hunt the zombies, which were easy to track in all directions around his shelter.
Due to most zombies being grouped, it took a considerable amount of time to bypass them in search of single zombies and hunt them without alerting the other zombies.
By the end of the week, he had only 70 more in his surroundings, which tallied a total of 100 zombies he had killed, which earned him a total of 1000 points.
Jim allocated all the points to expand the shelter, resulting in a total area of 20 square meters.
Now Jim has moved the furniture in the cave into the shelter, as there is no ventilation in the cave once he closed the cave door.
Until he has his strength increase to make proper ventilation with his talent, or he honestly increases his shelter area to cover the entire cave, which will take some time, as it requires him to hunt zombies to collect points.
While hunting in one direction, he discovered the forest's exit. However, Jim refrained from seizing the opportunity to leave, as the exit was heavily infested with zombies.
Furthermore, Jim has no pressing need to leave the forest or establish contact with other humans, as he has become self-sufficient, using the points to purchase food and expand his shelter.
Jim decided to contact the fellow survivors in the region only when he had the strength to fight multiple zombies in the forest.
This will signify that he can face any other danger posed by other monsters or fellow humans when traveling.
As it is evening and Jim has nothing else to do, he sits at the tablet and begins reading the chat record in the regional channel, which has become his daily routine now.
While reading the chat, he began anticipating today's settlement to use the points for purchasing storable food for the future, which he had previously refrained from buying the unavailability of adequate cookware.
Now he has prepared enough ironware with his talent and made some room in the shelter to use as a kitchen, he is ready to stockpile some food for emergencies.
At exactly 6 pm in the evening as Jim waited for the settlement, but he saw the screen of the tablet go dark.
Jim immediately remembered that when the system issued its first update after the first day, the same situation occurred.
As he thought, the screen didn't stay black; soon, words began appearing on the tablet screen.
[Congratulations to the survivors for successfully surviving in the doomsday world for 7 days.]
[As a reward for successful survival, everyone can purchase a chance to awaken the ability/talent in the store for a small number of points.]
[The family shelter system is activated, where your family members can actively merge with your shelter and form a large/medium shelter in the area.]
[Cooked food is removed from the store, and items such as seeds, flour, and spices are added to the store.]
[Crystal core can be brought from the store for 10 points]
[Weather is adjusted around the world for every month]
[Monsters around the world will become more aggressive]
[The additional points provided will not be provided if the shelter hasn't upgraded even once until they have initiated the first upgrade.]
[Survival System will upgrade in one month]
Jim felt his body freeze upon reading the updates.
The system is encouraging people to leave the shelters and hunt monsters in the wild to earn survival points and a crystal core.
What Jim felt bad as the system has stopped supplying the cooked food which will make his lazy ass to cook every time which will further waste his water reserves.
When thinking about how he can maintain sufficient water in the shelter for all his uses, Jim felt a massive headache.
As for the other updates, Jim felt that they don't impact him much, as he has already upgraded the shelter by more than one square meter.
Jim disregarded the family option, fully conscious that he had been with his mother in a hospital during his childhood and had been abandoned there.
Despite his parents being alive, he harbors neither love nor respect for them and remains unwilling to learn anything about them.
After a brief review of the notifications, Jim began to modify his plans.
The plans to avoid venturing outside the forest to contact other survivors will be abandoned, and he now has to actively seek out survivors in the region to gather more resources for upgrading his shelter. Additionally, he suspected that the points system might be revoked in the next upgrade to encourage greater cooperation among the survivors.
Now that he has decided to contact survivors, Jim decided to carve a path in the forest. The path that leads to the outside world should be designed with utmost care, as the path should be created in a maze that only he could navigate.
If any other survivor follows him into the forest with malicious intentions, such as robbing him, they will encounter the zombies inhabiting the forest soon as they lose their way.
Then he began thinking about the supplies he wanted to buy from the store.
Jim opened the store and saw that every 1 kg of raw material for any item to make food cost 10 survival points.
Jim then bought 1 kilogram of salt, 1 kilogram of sugar, 1 kilogram of flour, and spices, which are collectively sold in a 1 kg package.
After purchasing additional items such as oil, honey, and butter, Jim closed the store and proceeded to organize the supplies within the shelter.
Subsequently, he utilized some leftover iron blocks available in the shelter to begin constructing a small kitchen.
Initially, he constructed a small sink for washing dishes, followed by creating a tub to collect wastewater and other waste materials, which he then connected to the kitchen sink.
Then he made racks to place all the ironware he had made using iron blocks in the kitchen.
A small stove was made using the iron blocks and fixed to the shelter wall, which can be used to cook food or to provide heat in the shelter during the extreme cold seasons.
After doing all the work, Jim prepared to sleep early, as he had already decided to make a path out of the forest from tomorrow.
