Liliette found herself standing in the middle of an endless expanse of white—pure, boundless, and utterly devoid of light, shadow, or structure. Yet, strangely, she felt no fear. It was as if she had always been meant to be here, as if she had been waiting for this place her whole life.
Barefoot, she wandered through the emptiness, feeling completely at ease. Then, in the distance, she noticed a pulsing black dot. Swarms of black insects were crawling all over a large box. Though the mysterious box seemed sturdy, if left alone, it would undoubtedly be devoured by the pests.
An inexplicable anger surged up from deep within her, and she sprinted toward the box. Kneeling in front of it, she began to frantically sweep away the creatures with her bare hands.
“Get away! Leave it alone!”
