Summer was slowly retreating. The greenery still flourished, but there was a crispness in the breeze that hinted at autumn’s approach. The mornings had cooled enough that Liliette now wore a shawl during her walks.
She strolled through the garden of the annexed palace, admiring the sight of the autumn flowers beginning to bud. Resting her clasped hands on her rounded belly, she glanced at Vlad walking beside her.
“We still haven’t decided on a name for the baby, have we?” she mused.
Vlad’s brow furrowed ever so slightly, a familiar crease forming between his eyes. Liliette was used to this reaction by now and merely chuckled.
Vlad had been handling the estate’s affairs from afar, responding only to the most urgent matters. Whenever Liliette tried to involve herself in his work, he quickly wrapped things up and returned to their chambers with her.
