Chapter 5 - The Hidden Enemy

The mansion's shadows stretched long and sinister, wrapping Ava in a cold embrace that seeped into her bones. Every breath she took tasted of damp stone and danger. The stranger's chilling laughter still echoed in her ears, a haunting reminder that nothing was as it seemed.

Noah stood like a silent sentinel between her and the darkness, muscles tense, eyes scanning every inch of the room for threats unseen. The air crackled with tension—like the calm before a devastating storm.

Ava's mind raced, desperate for answers buried beneath layers of lies and silence. "Who is he?" she whispered, voice trembling.

Noah's jaw clenched, shadows flickering across his face. "He's more than an enemy. He's the ghost of your past — the secret you thought was buried."

The words hit her like a cold wave, chilling her to the core. Her past — the life she tried to forget — was clawing its way back, dragging her into a war she never asked for.

Suddenly, the stranger stepped forward from the darkness, his eyes gleaming with cruel satisfaction. "You can run, Ava," he said softly, "but you can't hide from what you are."

Ava's fists clenched at her sides, fury and fear warring inside her. "I'm not afraid of you."

The stranger's smile twisted into a sneer. "You will be."

Noah moved between them, voice low but fierce. "Enough. This ends now."

The tension snapped like a frayed wire. Ava felt the weight of countless secrets press down — but she also felt something else: the first flicker of defiance.

The battle was far from over.
