Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Ace Roommate

Zhou Hui was now certain that this was their dormitory! Initially, he had some doubts, but upon seeing Ms. Takashima standing at the entrance, he immediately confirmed it.

This was definitely the place!

Zhou Hui walked over, pulling his suitcase behind him.

"Ms. Takashima," he greeted as he stood beside her.

"Oh, I didn't expect you to actually find it! I was planning to meet you at the entrance, but I got busy with the farewell ceremony for the third-year seniors. I'm really sorry about that," Ms. Takashima said, sticking out her tongue.

"It's no problem; it's just a small matter," Zhou Hui replied.

"Is that so? That's good to hear."

Ms. Takashima glanced at Furuya Satoru beside Zhou Hui.

"This must be Furuya Satoru."

She recognized Furuya at a glance. Although Furuya Satoru had entered Seido High School through the entrance exam, she had seen his name on the registration form, which gave her a sense of familiarity.

"That's right," Furuya Satoru nodded, not saying much more.

"Alright, since you're both here, go find your dormitory. I'll head back now."

"Take care," Zhou Hui said as he and Furuya Satoru entered Seidou Dormitory, starting their search for their respective rooms.

As soon as they stepped into the corridor of Seidou Dormitory, Zhou Hui was hit by a strong sense of camaraderie.

The hallway was filled with players' shoes, washed clothes, socks hanging on the railings, and even underwear.

With all these young men around, no one seemed embarrassed.

In this environment, Zhou Hui felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity, as if he had come home.

It seemed that the students on the Seidou High School baseball team had truly made this place their home.

This was understandable. The students on the Seidou High School baseball team rarely had holidays, and even when they did, it wasn't much.

Saying that Seidou High School was their second home was not an exaggeration at all.

They spent most of their time at Seidou High School. During the short breaks, very few chose to go home.

When holidays came, the school allowed students to return home, but it was usually only a small portion of them who did.

Some didn't go home because their families lived too far away, and they didn't want to waste time returning for just a few days.

Others stayed behind to improve themselves! Even during holidays, training at Seidou High School never stopped.

If they fell behind in training because they went home, it would be hard to make up for that gap.

For the twenty spots on the first team, the students on the Seidou High School baseball team trained with all their might every day.

You swing the bat a hundred times, and I'll swing it a hundred and one!

In such a highly competitive environment, no one dared to take a break.

Unless there were special circumstances or significant changes at home, most students chose not to go home.

This was why the sounds of baseball could be heard almost every day at Seidou High School.

"I found it! I'm in Room 9, right?" Zhou Hui exclaimed as he spotted his dormitory at the end of the hallway.

The dormitory for the Seidou High School baseball team was relatively easy to find. Their names were written on the doors, and all one had to do was bend down to see their room.

He would be sharing the dormitory with two seniors, Tanba Koichiro and Watanabe Hisashi.

That's right, Seidou High School had a genuine three-person dormitory!

This was one of the benefits of attending a private high school. No matter where you were, they provided you with top-notch conditions, especially in the dormitories.

Compared to schools with eight-person dorms, this was a significant advantage.

Turning the doorknob, Zhou Hui stepped into the dormitory.

Noticing the movement at the door, the two seniors looked over.

"Oh? A newcomer?" one tall boy said first.

"Yes," Zhou Hui replied simply.

It was their first meeting, so it was normal to feel a bit reserved.

"Then we'll be roommates from now on. I'm Tanba Koichiro, a third-year," the tall boy introduced himself.

"Hello, Tanba-senpai," Zhou Hui responded.

At that moment, the other senior, who had been sitting on the bed, quickly got up, took Zhou Hui's luggage, and placed it beside his bed.

"This will be your spot. I'm Watanabe Hisashi, a second-year and the catcher for the second team."

This was the dormitory culture at Seidou High School: first-years, second-years, and third-years lived together, which helped them learn from each other.

"Thank you, senpai. I'm Zhou Hui, from Hokkaido," Zhou Hui introduced himself.

"Hokkaido? That's quite far away. It must be tiring to come all the way here," Tanba said, rubbing his chin.

"It's not too bad," Zhou Hui replied.

"What position do you play?" Tanba asked.

"I'm a first baseman."

"Ah, you play the same position as Captain Yuki..." Watanabe said. "If you want to become the starting first baseman on the first team, you have a long way to go."

"This guy is our ace pitcher. If you have any questions, just ask him," Watanabe patted Tanba on the shoulder, introducing him to Zhou Hui.

"An ace pitcher? That's impressive!" Zhou Hui's eyes lit up as he looked at Tanba, almost starstruck.

To be able to have such close contact with the ace pitcher of the team right after arriving at Seido High School was incredibly exciting for him.

Having an ace pitcher as a roommate was indeed a great start for a first-year student.

"Didn't we say not to bring that up?" Tanba said to Watanabe, as if there was something he was keeping to himself.

"What's wrong with that? You are the ace of Seidou High School, aren't you?" Watanabe replied, shaking his head helplessly.

Zhou Hui was taken aback, not quite understanding what was going on. Perhaps Tanba was just being overly modest.

If Tanba's skills were given to someone else, they would probably be on another level entirely.

After chatting for a while, Zhou Hui finally relaxed and let go of his earlier nervousness.

He had initially thought it would be difficult to get along with these two seniors, especially Tanba.

In junior high, those ace pitchers who had already shown their skills in the spotlight often had big egos and wouldn't even bother to acknowledge you.

But Tanba was completely different.

He was a great senior and a caring older brother.

Talking to him didn't feel stressful, nor did he carry the air of an ace pitcher.

"Are you the batting champion and home run king from Hokkaido? Your skills are impressive!" Tanba said, looking at Zhou Hui with admiration after hearing about his achievements in youth baseball.

"Not really," Zhou Hui replied modestly.

"If we get the chance, we should definitely have a match," Tanba suggested.

"Sure, it's a deal!" Zhou Hui agreed enthusiastically.
