Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Hero has been arrested!

Within the City Market District lies large crowds of people of Merchants promoting their goods.

Merchant #1: Come on! The finest potions you'll get! Buy a Strength potion and you'll be able to punch a Wyvern to death!

Merchant #2: The finest meats you'll ever have! Second only to what's in my pants! Haha!

Merchant #3: The finest swordsmith in the whole of Xethil! You can buy swords, Axes, Maces, Plate armor, Shields, anything right here!

Merchant #4: My goods are alright. Id say I'm a decent alchemist. The potions won't help you regrow an arm, but it should at least help you reattach your arm if it's salvageable.

Jeremy: Look... I appreciate your honesty, but if you keep telling the truth, people won't buy your stuff. They will go to the person lying.

Merchant #4: I don't like lying. I'll tell them exactly what they can expect from my potions. No exaggerating, or lying.

Jeremy: You won't sell anything, then.

Merchant: I suppose that's fine. I don't want someone to die because I lied about how good my healing potion is.

Jeremy Sighed. This Merchant is soft spoken and honest, he knows the business will fail because people don't like honest reviews. They will buy based on how much you exaggerate. If you tell them honestly, they will feel underwhelmed and go for someone who isn't lying. Plus there is always the chance that a merchant isn't lying about their potion being able to punch a Wyvern to death.

Jeremy: I hope you can prove me wrong, then.

Jeremy said with a voice of defeat. Walking away from the Merchant and continuing his patrols.

As he walked, he noticed a man in hooded clothes snatching a Ring from a jewelry stand.

Jeremy immediately bolted over and grabbed the assailant.

Jeremy: Whoa Whoa, there buddy. Who do you think you're stealing from?

The person in question appeared to be a young woman. No older than 20. The only thing hiding her face was the hood she was wearing.

Jeremy grabbed her Right hand and grabbed the stolen ring out of it. He looked in the direction of the person running the Jewelry stand and held the ring up.

Jeremy: This yours?

The Man running the Jewelry stand looked and quickly approached, Grabbing the Ring from Jeremy while thanking him for stopping the robbery.

Diverting his attention back to the young thief, he was still holding her. Jeremy looked at her and sighed

Jeremy: So young and already a criminal...

Thief: Nu-uh! Im innocent! The creepy man you gave that ring to was lying!

Jeremy: Oh? Please elaborate. I'm all ears!

Thief: That ring was originally mine, I was wearing it on my hand, but it was really hot out today qnd it was slowly burning my hand. I took it off and held it because I was afraid of pickpockets.

Jeremy: Oh? And why did the man say it was his?

Jeremy asked, playing along with her.

Thief: that's easy! You were already accusing me of stealing, so he figured this would be an easy ring to get and sell!

Jeremy: Wow! Poor you.

The Thief looked proud, Jeremy was still holding her arm tightly.

Jeremy: You're a really talented liar. You should try becoming a court jester, though. Maybe they could make use of your lying talent.

The Thiefs face dropped. Realizing that her life wasn't going through.

Thief: So you're gonna throw me, an innocent person in jail?

Jeremy: You're not innocent. But if you wanna argue, you're more than welcome to when you get a trial. Even if you are innocent, you're still going to jail until your trial.

The Thiefs face dropped even more, she tested Jeremy's grip on her arm to see if maybe she can run, but she couldn't. In an act of desperation, she decided to play her woman card, raising her free hand to gently stroke Jeremy's Bicep.

Thief: You know... You seem awfully... Tense, I could help you with that in exchange for letting me go.

Jeremy has absolutely no reaction to it and calmly shot her down.

Jeremy: Sorry. Not interested, although thanks to that, even if you are innocent of stealing that ring, you'll still get punished more harshly for attempting to bribe a guard with sexual favors.

She groaned in annoyance and decided to make a run for it. Although Jeremy's grip on her arm was too strong. He didn't even budge when she tried to run away.

Jeremy: Looks like I'll be humiliating you, then.

Jeremy said as he picked the small thief up and threw her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

She was kicking and screaming while Jeremy carried her towards the nearest Guard Tower.

Jeremy: By the way, even if I was the type of Guard who could be bribed with sexual favors. You're too young for me. I prefer women my age. Not a Decade younger than me.

The Thief never stopped kicking and screaming all the way until they made it to the Guard Tower.

When they Reached the Guard Tower, Jeremy noticed a pleasant surprise.

Jeremy: Look at that. The cart to the dungeon is here. Looks likevyoure heading straight to the dungeon instead.

Bordercross is a very big city. Thanks to Xethils lack of laws against Necromancy, people you are criminals elsewhere are constantly trying to sneak into Xethil. Bordercross may he located at the corner with only two borders, but it's also a city you have to go to if you wanna get to Brokeback Mountain City.

Thanks to the high number of smugglers, Bordercross has a very active Dungeon, excluding wgen the Dungeon was built, the smallest number of people who have been in the dungeon at once was 3,800.

The City is also about 130 Kilometers wide at its biggest point and 89 Kilometers wide at its thinnest point. The City has several Guard Towers scattered through the city, those Guard towers are places that Guards can rest and house Criminals who have recently been arrested. Once every 3 days, 2 Horses pulling a very large carriage thts basically a massive cage on wheels will pay each Guard Tower a visit. And the Tower Jeremy was carrying the thief to just so happened to be the one getting a visit from the Horse Drawn Carriage.

The Thief started kicking and screaming even harder, but it never made Jeremy so much as budge.

Jeremy called out to the person controlling the Cart and threw the Thief in the cage.

The cage is very barbaric. The cage ceiling has several rings on it, with each ring being a spot that can hold a prisoner. The Guard would attach the pridoners shackles to one of the rings and it would hold them in place as well as holding their arms above their heads. The cage could handle up to 70 people at once. The horses are very big horses. Standing at 2.5 meters twll at the shoulder and weighing nearly 1,000 Kilograms. Even a full cage of 70 Prisoners is child's play for 2 of these horses.

Since Jeremy difnt write the report of the young Thief, he decided to hitch a ride on the Prisoner Carriage and erite the Report at the Guard Castle, where the Dungeon is located.

After about 18 hours of slowly moving, they finally reavhed the Guard Castle and Dungeon. Jeremy learned that Christopher, the guy controlling the Prisoner Cart, just had his 4th child a few weeks ago and his oldest daughter is sick. Jeremy promptly congratulated him for having another child and wished his oldest daughter good health.

Jeremy waited for the Prisoner Cart to be emptied, he got on rather early and there were only 13 people onboard at the time, so he needed to wait in order to get the Thief out.

When Jeremy finally got her out, her face was a mess, red from what can be assumed as tears, herhood is down and she lost the will to fight. Jeremy quietly lead her to the holding cell near the Dungeon. She still needed to be questioned and identified.

Unlockijg the holding cell and throwing her in it, Jeremy noticed something odd. A familiar face in the Holding cell. It wasn't Keith, Kieth exclusively wears clothes that cover his entire body, yet this familiar face had visible biceps and forearms, as well as nothing covering his face.

Jeremy: Hero?...

The familiar face was none other than the person the Emperor started calling a Hero recently. Still wearing a dumb smile and mouth breathing.

Jeremy: Hero, what are you doing in there? How did you get arrested?

Hero: *Mouth breathing*

Jeremy: Right... You don't speak ..

Jeremy looked around and saw Sara, another guard that he doesn't interact with much, sitting and writing a Report.

Jeremy: Sara, Hi. It's been a while. The guy in the cell who's mouth breathing, do you know why he's here?

Sara looked at Jeremy, gave him a friendly smile and put down the pencil.

Sara: He attacked a noble.

Jeremy: Really? Which one?

Sara: Leonardo.

Jeremy heard the name and showed a face of understanding, thanking Sara for the answer and walking back to the Cell.

Jeremy: Hey, Hero... Look, I understand that Lord Leonardo is a piece of work, but you can't go around attacking him whenever you want.

Hero: *Mouth breathing*

Jeremy: Yes... Lord Leonardos parents were very successful and left Leonardo everything after they died, yet instead of improving their success, Leonardo does absolutely nothing, lives off the success of his parents and goes around talking down on people who are of lower social standings than him, so yes. I get it. I get wanting to punch him, but... You can't do that. That's why you're here.

Hero: *Mouth breathing*
