Chapter 2 - The lunatic is tired

Xiao Ling giggled at the nameless girl. She blinked as Xiao Ling leaned forward and gently bit her cheek. He was a very polite Lunatic and dare not bite her harshly.

Though the lunatic was only doing lunatic things;his eyes were full of tears as he gazed at her.

He could not help but wonder how this was possible, how could a nameless girl figure him out so quickly, after no one could for the past two thousand years.

Seeing the look in his eyes, the girl continued talking,"um-you have green eyes",she paused to think about what she just says, and her cheeks started to burn red front embarrassment,"...a-and your eyes don't act according to your body".

Xiao Ling thought the second point was quite ridiculous, just because his eyes spoke a different story then his physical self didn't mean he is a God.

He could just be someone pretending to be a lunatic for some reason or mortal cursed to be a Lunatic.

There are many possibilities and being a God is at the very bottom.

However, the first point was even more absurd.

Some illiterate mortals used to believe only God's and Demons can have blue or Green eyes.

It was a very old belief, and only people of the slums still believed it.

Xiao Ling was not surprised this girl has such a belief.

Still to be acknowledged as a God after so long...

...

Xiao Ling giggles once more, and tried to tickle her, however everytime he tried,The girl would swat his hand away.

The lunatic started to grow frustrated, and so he was about to to give her a shake, but instead he hugged her in terror as a loud growl could be heard from right above them.

The lunatic never bothered to look up,however the young girl did.

"There's a demon above us..",she sounded confused.

She did not know whether she should be scared or glad her life will come to an end.

She glanced at Xiao Ling, and after much consideration, she shifted her position to try and shield Xiao Ling from the demon now approaching them.

The demon had merely taken a few steps, when it fell besides them,it's head rolling towards them.

A young man in his early twenties, jumped in front of them, not sparing them a single glance as he started walking out of the alleyway. He had protected two mortals, however he had alot more to protect.

This was a fake god. This was one of the more intelligent demon, pretending to be a God.

The man glanced back at the lunatic and the girl just as he exited the alleyway.Just a few seconds later, the youth came walking backwards, and sharply turned his head to look at Xiao Ling, the blood drained from his already pale face. His light blue, jade like eyes shrinked to two tiny dotes.

After what felt like an eternity, the immortal, stumbled forward, and pealed the girl away from the lunatic, before swiftly, beheading him..

...

The girl ran forward to help the man who just lost his head...however she was yanked back by the jade eyed youth.

The man lifted her off the ground by her collar,as if she was a cat.The girl was dangling from his hand as she watched in shock as Xiao Lings head grew right back with a sickening noise.

Xiao Ling touched his neck,"ah..",he huffed before glancing at the other two,and his eyes narrowed slightly.

"Did you lose your manners in the past 2000 years?Who holds a woman like that!?",he shouted and couldn't help but shake his head disapprovingly.

When Xiao Ling spoke before, his voice was much higher and childlike, however now,it sounded alot more deeper and mature.

The immortal who was holding the girl, turned his hand so he could get a closer look at the girl, and gave her a few good shakes.

"This is no woman!this is a child!and you can hold children like this!",he shouted back.

The girl's eyes softened and she fought to hold back her tears as she for once was finally seen as a child..

Xiao ling paused, unsure on what to say. He then shook his head and took a step forward,"I don't have the patience left to deal with this..,set her down",xiao ling said, although his voice remained gentle,it carried a hint of authority and exhaustion.

For two thousand years,Xiao ling had no control on his body,he could not even flinch from discomfort,or look where he wanted to.He was trapped inside his own body, the only reason he did not lose his mind and became an actual lunatic is simply because,he would not allow himself to lose sanity, atleast not until he got revenge on those who did this to him. However these two thousand years took a toll on him, and he is no longer the man he once was, and no longer could entertain such antics.

The man with the jade eyes, lowered his gaze, and his fingers softened before releasing the girl entirely. The man parted his lips, but no sound came out, eventually,he no longer tried to come up with something to ease the ice.

The man shifted before folding his arms over his chest as he fiddled with his sleeve and kept his gaze on the girl.

Xiao ling watched all this before finally speaking,"Wu ming..let's talk later, first we must find a safe spot for the girl and help the villagers..",he says as he began walking out the alley. He really wanted to catch up with his old friend, but right now,he neither had the time nor the energy to so much as greet Wu ming,or dwell on all that has happened.

The other two quietly followed along, minus the young lady, the men's footsteps barely made any noise, as they walked underneath the shadows, blending in the darkness and hidden from the demons that growled and destroyed all around them.

The girl stared at Xiao ling's back and finally spoke, her voice soft and meek, not afraid but paranoid of what might happen,"are you-are -are you going to return me..to him?",she asked, her voice breaking as she lifted her hand to massage her throat.

Xiao ling glanced back at her and could not help but notice the small spark that had returned to her eyes as she stared up at the men with long lost hope.

Xiao Ling, unable to watch, quickly looked back ahead,"yes, you will be safe there..".

He did not need to look back at the girl,to know that her eyes had once again lost all hope, and this time, even the lunatic won't help her.

Wu Ming tilted his head to look back at the girl ,he wanted to ask what was going on,however his eyes suddenly widened,he sharply turning his head to look at Xiao ling, his eyes shining as he strode closer to the other man,"Huaqing?where is she?she was cursed along with you right?is she here?",he exclaimed, not even trying to hide the excitement and hope in his voice, his hands reaching out to grasp Xiao lings tattered sleeve, before he stopped and retreated his hands back, and clutched his hands at his side.

Xiao ling paused when he heard that name, his heart ached from longing as he thought of the girl Wu ming just mentioned, and after centuries,he felt his eyes burning, and had to bite his bottom lips to stifle a cry,"her..her curse was different from mine,I'll explain later, but unlike me,she should still be in the same location, she was originally cursed too",he explained. He shook his head sideways, and took a few deep breaths.

He stopped infront of a small hut,if it could be called that. The hut was cracked and rotting away, some portions of the roof were completely rotten away,it was a miracle that the demons had not broken into this place yet.

Xiao ling tried to push the door open, only to find that it was blocked by something on the other side.

He turned his attention to the girl before grabbing her arm and pulling her forward, his heart ached as he felt her trying to resist momentarily before stopping .Xiao ling then gently wrapped his arms around her before gracefully landing on the broken roof. He walked along the edges before finding a hole big enough to jump through.

He jumped in and landed on the molding floor, immediately his attention fell on a man laying on a straw mat,he smelled terrible, worst then shit,it honestly looked like he might have maggots crawling on that ugly stumach of his, that was currently slipping out from his smelly clothes.

Xiao ling felt his stomach turning as he set the girl down,"he's drunk, you will be safe from him for now..".He waited for a response, but the girl only hugged her knees and stared at her husband…

Xiao ling parted his lips to say something, but as he did,a wave of exhaustion hit him, and his body felt heavier than it ever has before.

He glanced at the girl before shaking his head and jumping out of the broken hut, landing beside Wu ming.

...

The next few hours had been spent, fighting and killing the demons that have attacked this small village.according to Wu ming ,about twenty five low rank had been released on to this small village.Killing them was not the hard part, but finding them without alerting the villagers of themselves and then killing them, was the hard part.

It certainly did not help that the village was poor, and thus had weakly build houses and talismans that could barely even hold back baby demons. Before Wu ming had arrived,he was ordered to only protect those houses that had given the most offerings to the 'gods',so in order to stay out of trouble,Wu ming had obeyed.

Thus, they had to dig the demons out of some of the houses, though it was too late for the residents living there by the time they got there.

Currently they were looking for the last of the demons.Wu Ming spoke,"was it really wise to leave her with thar father of hers?it doesn't take a genius to..",he was cut of by Xiao ling.

"That was her husband..".

Wu Ming paused and his eyes narrowed,"you..",once again,he was cut off,but not by Xiao ling but by a piercing scream of a man,the scream was raw and ugly, making both the immortals cringe, and quickly turn to run towards the source, they had no doubt, that's where the demon was.

They both froze, once they saw what had happened and who had fallen victim to the last demon in the village.

It was the old rotten husband,he lay in the middle of cold dirty street, the monster digging into that fat ugly tummy of his.
