Avery looked at the closed door behind him, still feeling the lingering weight of Silas's presence. What did he mean by "bite me only if you want me to stay"?!

What kind of man was this, so infuriating and yet impossibly charming at the same time? She pressed her lips into a thin line, trying to shut out the memory of his mischievous grin and that ridiculous smirk that had made her cheeks warm despite herself.

With a small huff, she quickly ensured the door was firmly closed and then, determined to banish thoughts of her unbearable husband from her mind, she plopped onto the mattress of her bed.

The soft sheets welcomed her, yet even here she couldn't fully escape him, his lingering cologne had faintly soaked into the bedding, and Avery wrinkled her nose in annoyance. "Leave me alone, Silas Blackwood!" she muttered under her breath, crossing her arms over her chest as if physically pushing the memory away could make it vanish.
