Jason and Raven didn't stop running until the ruined skyline gave way to Constantine's glowing circle. The runes carved into the ground pulsed like a heartbeat, Zatanna's voice weaving ancient syllables into power, the rest of the Titans standing guard in tense silence.

"RAVEN!" Kori's cry broke through the heavy air. She flew forward, wrapping Raven in a desperate embrace, almost trembling as if afraid she'd vanish. Cyborg and Beast Boy rushed in too, voices overlapping, relief plain on their faces.

Constantine didn't move. His cigarette burned low as his eyes locked onto Jason. "Is he… dead?" The words were sharp, but his tone cracked with something close to fear.

Jason's stare was unreadable, his voice low. "No. Not yet. But he won't be up for a while." He didn't wait for reactions, just jerked his chin at the circle. "Come on. Let's go."

John swallowed, flicking his cigarette aside. "Wait. We're just takin' her like this? I've got to check her first. If Trigon slipped something inside her—if he anchored himself—"

Jason's hand clamped down on his shoulder like a vice, silencing him. His voice was a growl, calm but heavy with warning. "No. Let's not. She's fine. Trigon isn't the problem right now. The longer we stand here, the closer he gets back up. Open the damn portal. Now."

John froze under Jason's glare. He wanted to argue, to press the point, but for once, Constantine stayed quiet. The circle was finished. Zatanna lifted her hands, chanting in reverse tongue, words of power igniting the runes in violet flame. The portal snapped open with a crack of thunder, swallowing the room in blinding light.

And just like that—they were back. The damp, familiar air of the warehouse replaced the suffocating inferno of Trigon's realm. Raven was here. Alive. The Titans crowded around her, relief spilling out in half-choked words.

Jason, however, didn't join them. His hand twitched, then slowly went to his watch. He pressed the side. The faint beep echoed like a trigger being pulled.

And then he dropped. Face-first.

His body hit the floor with a dull thud, curse energy finally tearing him down. The exhaustion of wielding Sukuna's malice, of standing in the shadow of a god and not breaking, dragged him under instantly.

"Jason!" Raven gasped, kneeling beside him, her hands hovering as dark aura shimmered around her fingertips.

The others turned, shocked—this man who moments ago had fought the impossible now lying broken at their feet.

....

After Jason collapsed, his watch pulsed faintly, sending out the alert. Within minutes, Nia and the Cursed Ones arrived, grim faces set as they carried him swiftly away. Their destination: the Anderson Health Institution, a facility discreetly prepared to treat warriors like him.

Doctors examined him thoroughly, checking his vitals, running tests, scanning for internal damage. Their verdict was simple: exhaustion. Pure, crushing fatigue from the weight of power no body should endure. It was a relief—for the Titans, for the Cursed Ones, for Raven most of all.

A full day passed. Then, at last, Jason stirred awake. The room was quiet except for the steady beep of the monitor beside his bed. One by one, they came to see him.

Nightwing was first. He stood at Jason's bedside with his arms crossed, posture stiff, but his voice steady. "I want to thank you, on behalf of the Teen Titans. As their leader… I know you and I have our differences. I don't like the way you handle things. But from this day forward, I won't see you as a criminal or a monster." He paused, his eyes softening. "I'll see you as a fellow hero. Thank you."

Jason smirked faintly, though his body was still heavy with weakness. "No problem. I appreciate that. It gives me faith in future heroes—to know at least one of them isn't so close-minded, and actually has the world's survival in mind. See you around, Nightwing."

Nightwing nodded once, firmly, and left the room.

The door opened again moments later. Raven stepped inside, moving quietly, almost shyly, before taking the chair beside his bed. Her eyes lingered on him as if searching for answers she wasn't sure she wanted.

"I don't even know you well…" she said softly. "Yet you saved me. You risked your life for me. Why?"

Jason grinned, mischief cutting through the fatigue. "Because you're beautiful."

Raven's cheeks tinted red instantly. "Be serious!"

"I am serious. You know—you're beautiful." His grin widened, teasing her deliberately.

She looked away, but the smile she tried to hide only deepened her blush. "…What else?"

His tone shifted, growing steady, firm. "Because I'm a hero too. I don't know what the others told you about me, what you've heard. But I am a hero. My methods… they're different. I kill when I have to. Villains who can't be redeemed. But I believe it's necessary to cleanse the world of those monsters."

Raven's eyes fell. "But you didn't kill me. I'm not a villain, but I'm still the biggest threat to the world's safety. Even now."

Jason nodded slowly. "You are. But you're not doing it on purpose. That's the difference. I'm not some lunatic killer. If I catch a thief, a dealer, some scumbag roughing people up, I'll break a few bones, scare them straight, and let them go. I don't kill all criminals. Only the truly irredeemable." He leaned toward her slightly, his voice lowering. "And then there are people like you—people life forced into a corner. People who were cursed with power they never asked for. You don't want to be a monster, Raven. And I won't let life turn you into one. Instead, I'll go against what fate demands, and make sure you survive its tests."

Her lips parted, breath caught in her chest. "I guess… but why do you do this? What's in it for you?"

Jason exhaled slowly, his gaze drifting to the ceiling. "I'll let you in on a secret. You're the only one I've ever told this to. My powers—everything I am—comes from murder. The more I kill, the stronger I get. You've seen what that looks like. Four arms, two legs. A mouth where no mouth should be. The smile. The hunger." His eyes flicked back to her, sharp, unwavering. "I was made to be a villain. My powers, my bloodlust, my nature—it all screams supervillain. If I'd chosen that path, millions would have died before anyone could slow me down."

Raven froze, her pulse quickening as her mind replayed the monstrous vision of Sukuna she had seen with her own eyes. The memory made her shiver.

"But I said to myself—fuck that. I'll be whatever I want to be. Not what life wants me to be." Jason's voice hardened, resolve cutting through the air. "So I fight that bloodlust. I only feed it to monsters who deserve no mercy. And instead, I'll stand at the opposite end of what I was created for. I'll be what fate never wanted me to be. A true hero."

For a moment, Raven just stared at him. Shock. Fear. But underneath it—a flicker of something else. Relief. Recognition. Because for the first time in her life, someone had spoken words she understood to her core. He knew what it meant to fight your own nature. To resist the path life carved for you.

Her composure broke. Without thinking, Raven leaned forward, climbing onto the edge of his bed and throwing her arms around him.

"Thank you. Thank you so much, Jason… for saving me."

Jason blinked, then smiled softly, returning the embrace despite his weakness. His voice was calm, steady. "You're welcome. Just my duty… as a hero."
